Gillman Barracks is located on the site of a former military camp named after
the late General Sir Webb Gillman, a well-known British army officer. Set up
in 1936 to accommodate the expansion of the British infantry in Singapore,
the camp consists of 14 buildings that were taken over by the Singapore
Armed Forces (SAF) in August 1971 as part of the withdrawal of the British
military from Singapore.
After the SAF vacated the camp in the 1990s, the buildings were used for
commercial purposes and the site was renamed Gillman Village in 1996. The
site reverted to its original name, Gillman Barracks, in 2010 and was re-developed and launched in September 2012 as a contemporary art centre.

Henderson Waves
Henderson Road, Singapore

The 274m-long and 8m-wide Henderson Waves connects
Mount Faber to Telok Blangah Hill. It is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore at 36m above Henderson Road.
Its distinctive wave-like structure comes from seven undulating curved “ribs” that alternately go above and below the
bridge deck. Where these “ribs” rise over the deck, they
form alcoves that provide shelter to visitors. The deck itself
is made of yellow balau wood, an all-weather timber found
in Southeast Asia.

One of the oldest parks in Singapore, Mount Faber Park is a popular tourist
destination, offering visitors a host of activities.
Take a cable car from Mount Faber to Sentosa Island and enjoy the stunning
view of the horizon from above. Alternatively, you can gaze through the telescopes at one of the many lookout points that are situated at various sides of
the ridge for a panoramic view of the southern part of Singapore and the southern islands. Delve into our nation’s natural heritage at Faber Point, the highest
point in the park, where a mural wall depicts scenes of local historical events,
and where the tree that was planted during the first Tree Planting Day stands.
Mount Faber is covered by a secondary rain forest. The vegetation on the
slope helps to stabilise the terrain besides beautifying the park.
The park is part of the Southern Ridges, which also comprises Telok Blangah
Hill Park, HortPark, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Reserve.

War Relics
Besides its rich biodiversity, this headland also
played a significant role in the history of Singapore during World War II, making it a great
place for history buffs. Remnants of the past
such as the tunnels and a fort enable visitors to
have an interactive learning experience of the
military history of the British rule during that era.
