Student of the Month Assembly

Student of the Month Assembly- September 20th, 2013
1st Period Assembly: Earth House(2,8,10)
Team 2(Sandstorm)
Abigail Williams
Team 2 students are getting to know each other and learning about their
teachers. Teachers are learning about their students. Our female student of the month gets
along well with whomever she is working with. She is thoughtful of others. Without fail,
when we look out across the classroom, her attention is focused on the speaker. She
follows directions and is always on task. Her smile lights up the whole pod. She enters the
classroom with a friendly hello, and leaves with a polite thank-you every day. Our female
student of the month is Abby Williams.
Charles Clark
Our first male student of the month distinguishes himself because he takes the initiative to
make changes at CMS. Everyone can do this, but this student does. On two occasions, this
student was observed being “part of the solution.” Walking in the hall, when he saw trash
on the floor, he picked it up. No one told him to do this. Coming in from recess, when
everyone else wants to get into the building, and there is a huge crowd at the door, this
student held the door for everyone. Again, no one asked him to do this. This student is a
responsible citizen of CMS and proves it in his actions. He willingly helps other students,
and teachers. Team 2 is proud to select Charles Clark as our Sept. male Student of the
Month.
Team 8(Landslide)
Chloe Couture
Both of these students have been very polite, respectful, kind, friendly, fun to be around,
and have a great sense of humor. Not only are their individual actions noteworthy, but they
both help set a productive and enthusiastic tone for the class, which help their peers to be
more successful students. Both of these students are great role models to start the year off
as our first students of the month. Our girl choice for student of the month consistently
displays a lot of spirit, and has a wonderful imagination. She is a swim team member. We
have witnessed her creativity and have also found her confident, funny and mature. Our
choice for student of the month for girls is: Chloe Couture.
Nolan Lindberg
Our choice for a boy for student of the month loves school, Math, memory games, sports
trivia, and humor. In fact, there was a day in class where I told the whole class how
impressed we have been with the start of the year and that they have been so good that, for
the first time in my life, I almost feel guilty assigning homework on a Friday. Well, as I
started passing out a worksheet, this student smiled and softly mentioned, “Well, I guess
you aren’t feeling THAT guilty.”
Our choice for student of the month for the boys is: Nolan Lindberg.
Team 10(Earthquake)
Jenny Field
Our first Student of the month is an energetic young lady. She is an active participant in
class and often asks clarifying questions to make sure she understands the concept
presented. Not only do her questions help her own understanding, but they also help
others in the class. She is always on task, engaged, and ready to help her classmates. She
regularly attends extra help sessions and seeks to go above and beyond the expectations
for class, especially in math, as well. It is our pleasure to award the September Student of
the Month to Jenny Field.
Noah Asch
Our next Student of the month is a young man who is new to our community. His teachers
are so impressed with how seamlessly he has transitioned to our school. In less than a
month, he has already shown us that he is a true student who stays focused on his studies
in all areas. It’s not always easy for some students to ask questions in class, and someone
new might be even more reluctant, but not for this student. We consistently see him as the
one who will take the risk and self-advocate. We are pleased to introduce to you our next
Student of the Month – Noah Asch.
2nd Period Assembly: Fire House (3,5,9)
Team 3(Spark)
Claire Allison
Our first student of the month is an extremely conscientious student and person. She is
diligent in her work, and friendly to all who are around her. On a field trip recently, she
comforted a classmate and acted as a loyal friend, keeping her company for most of the day.
Our team is a better place because of this student's caring and kindness. We are happy to
announce that Claire Allison is Team 3's student of the month.
Hunter Colella
Our next student of the month is helpful and considerate. He tries his best to help friends in
any way he can. He is quiet, but his actions speak loudly to reveal the the great person that
he is. This student helped to carry students' supplies on a recent team hike, without a
complaint. This willingness to go above and beyond for others is why Hunter Colella
is Team 3's Student of the Month.
Team 5(Wildfire)
Julia Sherwin
Julia Sherwin has a quiet presence on Team 5, but despite her soft voice and quiet ways,
she has made a strong impression. She is a committed student who takes her
responsibilities very seriously. She puts careful attention into her work and participates in
class in a meaningful way. She is known to be very kind to her peers and is a reliable
friend. Julia helps to create and maintain positive feelings on Team 5, and we are so happy
that she is part of our group this year.
Tyler Blood
Tyler Blood is a wonderful addition to Team 5. He is always willing to lend a helping hand,
he is conscientious about his learning, and he is well-mannered and respectful. Goodnatured and helpful students like Tyler help to build a stronger and friendlier community,
something we value very much as a team and as a school. We appreciate what Tyler brings
to our team environment on a daily basis.
Team 9(Inferno)
Morgan Jameson
This student is someone who puts others before herself. She emailed her teachers in
anticipation of a new student joining our team and volunteered to help show her around.
She also brought another new student down to the library and helped him get set up with
his resources. She is always kind, enters with a smile, volunteers, and thanks her teachers
upon leaving. She is polite, friendly, and a joy to have in class, both for her teachers and her
peers. Team Inferno is so happy and fortunate to have Morgan Jameson on the team!
Eric Eno
This student is extremely kind, responsible, and attentive in class. He is very willing to pull
other students into his group during class. He is a natural leader in the classroom and
brings a positive energy to everything he does. This young man has completed a lot of
community service as part of the Travis Manion project, including bake sales and
fundraising. Eric Eno is a valuable asset to Team Inferno, and we are so lucky to have him
as a part of the team!
7th Period Assembly: Air House (1,7,12)
Team 1(Windstorm)
Kristen Florence
This month’s student of the month is someone who is very conscientious in her classes. She
is an active participant in class discussions and group activities, and has eagerly embraced
any additional challenge opportunities that are available. This student’s interests include a
love of animals, science, and community service involvement. This student participates in
the Builders Club, and is involved in the Taking Strides Against Breast Cancer walk coming
up in October. This student demonstrates continued commitment to community service by
wanting to go to Uganda when she is 18 as part of a service group. Outside of school, this
student of the month is involved in field hockey, and plays the saxophone. Responsibilities
at home include caring for family pets, and some housecleaning chores. This student should
also be recognized as someone who successfully completed the DARE program last year.
For all these reasons, Team 1 is proud to recognize Kristen Florence as Student of the
Month.
Gage Bolduc
This month’s student of the month is someone who is steadfast in his effort to want to do
well in school. He is very focused and motivated in his classes. His positive attitude helps to
create a very positive learning environment in which other students are more motivated
and excited to learn. This student shows his commitment to community service by having
participated in food drives with his scout troop. His hobbies include playing electric guitar
and participating in a 4-H shooting class. He is also in a band! This student of the month
has earned the esteemed Arrow of Light Award for his scouting troop, and he shows
responsibility at home by helping out with doing the dishes. For all these reasons, Team 1
is proud to recognize Gage Bolduc as this month’s student of the month.
Team 7(Tornado)
Hannah Sheets
When you walk into the room, it is always nice to see a bright smile and a nice hello and we
can always expect exactly that from this student. She is polite, hardworking and is always
willing to work with others in the room. Looking forward we are expecting her to be a one
of our team leaders during activities and someone others can turn to when they have a
question or a problem. Team tornado is very delighted to have Hannah Sheets as a member
of our team.
Anthony Gemelli
As much as he thinks he is the class clown, and as much as he wants to try to act goofy, this
student knows exactly when to to make a joke and when to get down to work. He is very
inquisitive and is frequently asking questions to clarify problems in class. He works much
harder than he even realizes and is going to be a leader and a positive example throughout
the year. So, team tornado is proud to announce Anthony Gemeli as student of the month.
Team 12(Hurricane)
Katie Doucette
Our first students of the month have made an impression on us with their positive
attitudes. Our first student came to us with a reputation for diligence and persistence. We
were told that she never gives up, no matter what challenges she faces. We have already
seen these traits in action this year. No matter what the task is, this student plugs away
until she reaches her goal. Her peers know her as being dedicated to reaching her fullest
potential and serving as a model to others. We are very proud to recognize Katie Doucette
as our September Student of the Month.
Tom Mahoney
Our next student has started off the year not only diligently working in class, but also
reaching out to fellow students and teachers. With over 100 new faces to learn at the
beginning of the school year, it can be challenging for teachers to get to know their students
as quickly as they might like. This student took a leadership role both in helping us
teachers get to know our students and in helping fellow students who were absent or
needed assistance. He is always cheerful, welcoming, and eager to contribute. He acts in
the best interests of his classmates and others in the halls of CMS. He has gone out of his
way to welcome some of the new students in our Global Skills program whom he knew
outside CMS. We look forward to working with Tom Mahoney throughout this upcoming
year.
8th Period Assembly: Water House (4,6,11)
Team 4(Rip Tide)
Anna Walker
Team 4's student of the month is a real stand out in spite of being the only female member
of a small group. Outside of school, she shows good citizenship by babysitting and helping
out her elderly neighbor, and playing with younger neighbors to keep them
entertained. She enjoys reading and listening to music in her free time. She has had a great
start at CMS and we look forward to seeing her accomplishments as the year
progresses. Our nominee for student of the month is Anna Walker.
Brian Lafoe
Team 4's first student of the month nominee spends many hours volunteering at his
sibling's soccer games and other sporting events, including coaching responsibilities. He is
easy to get to know and has a carefree demeanor. He mows his neighbor's lawns every
Saturday and enjoys playing sports in his neighborhood. He has had a great start at CMS
and has made himself known as a kind, trustworthy students. Our nominee for student of
the month is Brian Lafoe.
Team 6(Tidal Wave)
Kaitlyn Ganley
Team Tidal Wave would like to recognize a young lady who stood out from the very first
day of school. Her bright smile, her enthusiasm for learning new things, and her
willingness to help both teachers and classmates makes her a leader on our team. Whether
she is offering her assistance to Mrs. Jones during team time, delivering a lost item to a
fellow student or encouraging her class to stay positive to reach a goal, she demonstrates
virtues we should strive for and celebrate. It is with great pride that we select Kaitlyn
Ganley as our student of the month.
Trey Kneeskern
This creative and kind Tidal Wave Student leads by example. His positive attitude and grace
with his peers is always shared with adults as well. He is a caring individual that is
considerate of his classmates at all times. He is quick to share a smile and a laugh which is
appreciated by all. On the tennis court, on his scooter, in the classroom, or spending time
with family or friends he brings his enthusiastic and encouraging perspective wherever he
goes.
Team Tidal Wave is thrilled to recognize Trey Kneeskern for September Student of the
Month.
Team 11(Tsunami)
Mia Carey-Sykes
This Tsunami Team Member comes to school each and every day seeking to be better.
Being a better sister, friend, student, or classmate is indicative of her goals, the betterment
of others with that of self. She brings a positive attitude, focused work ethic, and a desire to
make school and life better for her and those around her. She has a big heart and that is
reflected in both the lunch groups that she shares with peers as well as in the ear to ear
smile she is quick to greet peers and adults with on a daily basis. Despite bumps in the road
this young lady is not only able to continue on her path but also makes it her mission to
pave a smoother course for other travelers.
It is because of this and so much more that Team 11 is thrilled to honor Mia Carey Sykes as
one of our September Student of the Month recipients.
Thomas Polhemus
Even though we’ve only known this team for a short time, this young man was immediately
apparent as a role model for others. We’ve seen him lead by example with his high
personal standards, respect for everyone around him, and steady consistency. Even though
he seemed to be on the quiet side, his exemplary behavior was evident from day ONE. This
is why we nominated Thomas Polhemus as our other student of the month.
