• The Elimination of Black Voting
– Between 1890 and 1906 every southern state
enacted laws or constitutional provisions meant to
eliminate the black vote.
• The Law of Segregation
– In 1896, in the landmark decision in Plessy v.
Ferguson, the Supreme Court gave its approval to
state laws requiring separate facilities for blacks
and whites.
