Bus Round Trip - Sardinia
1st Day

Hotel Pausania Inn in Tempio Pausania.
2nd Day
After breakfast departure towards the small
village Sant’Antonio di Gallura and the Liscia
Lake. Not far from Arzachena, we will visit
the monumental prehistoric tomb called
Coddu Vecchiu.
Afterwards we will visit the famous Costa Smeralda
(Emerald Coast). Created during the 1960’s by the
Prince Aga Khan Karim, this area is today the
favourite tourist destination of the international Jet
Set and it hosts the most prestigious Hotels of the
whole island. Porto Cervo is its emblem; luxurious
yachts are docked at the marina and fancy shops are
lined along the square. It is a must sitting for a while
in one of the numerous bars and have an espresso or
an ice-cream. After an exciting walk in Porto Cervo,
we will have lunch in a Pizzeria or a Restaurant; in
the afternoon round trip through Baia Sardinia, Palau
and Capo Testa in Santa Teresa di Gallura. Dinner
and overnight at the Hotel Pausania Inn.
3rd Day
After breakfast departure towards Castelsardo,
a small town situated on the summit of a rocky
promontory in a strategic position dominating
the harbour. Castelsardo was founded in the
XII century by the Genoese family Doria. The
castle and fortifications were built in this period.
Today, it's considered an important commercial
centre for traditional craftsmanship.
Afterwards departure to Alghero and lunch in a
typical Restaurant. Short visit of the town.
In the afternoon we will visit the Neptune's Grotto. This
marine cave is carved in a spectacular sheer cliff, with
long winding passages that delve far into the rock passing
many fantastical stalagmites and stalactites. The
entrance to the caves lies at the base of Capo Caccia cliff
and can be accessed by sea or from the Escala del
Cabriol, a steep, narrow path of 656 steps. Inside there is
a salt water lake, which is 120 mts long, with splendid
limestone columns and concretions rising out of the
water. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Pausania Inn in
Tempio Pausania.
4th Day
After breakfast depature towards Nuoro and
Orgosolo. Nuoro is considered the heart of
Sardinia, as this town has well preserved
Sardinian traditions and culture. From the
Mount Ortobene we will be able to admire a
spectacular view overlooking the vast
landscape.
Our trip continues to the village Orgosolo, the
symbol of the Barbargia culture and known for
its murales: paintings that depict the way of life
and represent the social unrest and a silent
protest against the government during the late
1960s. In Orgosolo we will have a typical
lunch with the shepherds with local meat and
cheese, for example lamb with potatoes and
roasted pork, all accompanied by a tasty local
wine.
In the afternoon departure towards the south.
Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Setar.
5th Day
After breakfast we will visit Cagliari, the capital city of the
Region Sardinia. As soon as we arrive at Cagliari we will start
the visit from the old town and upper part of Cagliari called
Castello (Castle). Amongst the ancient walls are hidden real
jewels: the Portal of Santa Cristina, the Tower of Saint
Pancratious, the Tower of the Elephant, the Piazza Palazzo
with the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria (headquarters of the
Archbishop), and the Palace of the Prefect, once residence of
the Viceroy Carlo Alberto. After having reached the Terrace
Umberto I, that surmounts the Bastion of Saint Remy, we will go
to Via Roma. Lunch in a typical Restaurant.
The afternoon is dedicated to the visit of the archaeological site
of Nora. Approximately 30 minutes from the centre of Cagliari,
there are some ancient ruins. Founded by the Phoenician
navigators around the 9th century B.C. as a strategic location in
the Mediterranean, Nora was an important resting point before
continuing the long travels to Britain in search of raw materials.
The city was later conquered by the great Carthaginian
navigators and warriors and as a result of the Punic Wars, fell
into Roman hands around 238 b.C.
After the visit we will have a panoramic tour along the famous
Costa Sud. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Setar.
6th Day
After about 1 hour drive from the hotel you will reach
Barumini, where you will visit the most famous Nuraghi
complex. A nuraghe (plural: Nuraghi) is a monumental
tower made of huge stones roughly worked. A nuraghe
might stand as a single tower like the one above, or several
nuraghi might be joined together as a complex of many
towers with connecting structures and walls. Either form
might show remnants of a village in the immediate vicinity.
This amazing type of fortress can only be found in Sardinia:
there are over 7000 examples of it on the island. The
Megolithic Towers belong to a Bronze Age Culture that
lived about 3000 years ago. The Settlement located near
the village of Barumini is called Su Nuraxi: it includes a
main tower and four smaller ones connected to each other
by a containing wall which also forms a raised courtyard;
the entire complex is protected by another wall and seven
towers.
After a fully guided visit of the complex, you will have lunch at
the Restaurant next to the site. After lunch, we will leave
Barumini to reach the Giara di Tuili: a beautiful plateau wellknown thanks to its typical wild little horses with almond eyes.
There are about 600, all of them wild and free. This breed was
probably imported from the far East. Adapted on the tablelands since long time ago, they live in small herds constituted
of a dominant male and from 4 to 10/12 females with their
respective colts.
Dinner and overnight at Setar Hotel
7th Day
Departure from the hotel direction Oristano, a nice town situated in the heart of the great plane of
Campidano, in a central position along the western coast of Sardinia. Short visit of the town and
departure to the Sinis Peninsula, where we will visit the Church of San Giovanni. Lunch in a typical
Restaurant in Cabras.
In the afternoon departure to the North. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Pausania Inn in Tempio
Pausania.
