After having reached the Terrace Umberto I, that surmounts the Bastion of Saint Remy, we will go to Via Roma. Lunch in a typical Restaurant. The afternoon is dedicated to the visit of the archaeological site of Nora. Approximately 30 minutes from the centre of Cagliari, there are some ancient ruins. Founded by the Phoenician navigators around the 9th century B.C. as a strategic location in the Mediterranean, Nora was an important resting point before continuing the long travels to Britain in search of raw materials. The city was later conquered by the great Carthaginian navigators and warriors and as a result of the Punic Wars, fell into Roman hands around 238 b.C. After the visit we will have a panoramic tour along the famous Costa Sud. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Setar. 6th Day After about 1 hour drive from the hotel you will reach Barumini, where you will visit the most famous Nuraghi complex. A nuraghe (plural: Nuraghi) is a monumental tower made of huge stones roughly worked. A nuraghe might stand as a single tower like the one above, or several nuraghi might be joined together as a complex of many towers with connecting structures and walls. Either form might show remnants of a village in the immediate vicinity. This amazing type of fortress can only be found in Sardinia: there are over 7000 examples of it on the island. The Megolithic Towers belong to a Bronze Age Culture that lived about 3000 years ago. The Settlement located near the village of Barumini is called Su Nuraxi: it includes a main tower and four smaller ones connected to each other by a containing wall which also forms a raised courtyard; the entire complex is protected by another wall and seven towers. After a fully guided visit of the complex, you will have lunch at the Restaurant next to the site. After lunch, we will leave Barumini to reach the Giara di Tuili: a beautiful plateau wellknown thanks to its typical wild little horses with almond eyes. There are about 600, all of them wild and free. This breed was probably imported from the far East. Adapted on the tablelands since long time ago, they live in small herds constituted of a dominant male and from 4 to 10/12 females with their respective colts.
