Prophecy is one of the chief gi s because one prophe c word has the ability to touch the whole church, city or na on. That’s why it can be dangerous in the hands of those who have not been taught properly. When opera ng in the gi of prophecy we must know where the boundaries are. This gi is given for edifica on, exhorta on and comfort. 1 Corinthians 14:3 The gi s of the Spirit are given for the profit of all. 1 Corinthians 12:7 THE PROPHETIC IS NOT AN OPTIONAL EXTRA FOR THE CHURCH God is raising up a church who is fully equipped in all areas and who know the mes and the season they’re in. Isaiah went through all three areas. 1.Seeing Mental Images or Pictures. God knows how our body func ons so it is no problem placing an image into our mind’s eye. John 1:48. Jesus saw Nathaniel under the fig tree. Visions. These are like a series of moving pictures. God can open up our physical eyes to see into the spiritual realm. Be careful how you interpret what God gives. Remember it’s not for you and you don’t have to understand it. 2 Kings 6:17; Acts 7:55‐56 Dreams. These are night visions the Lord chooses to give us while we’re asleep. This is because our spirit never sleeps. Many mes God gives us symbols and types and shadows of earthly reali es. They may not mean exactly what is being portrayed in the dream. Numbers 12:6; Ma hew 1:20 Dreams and Visions’ by Jane Hamon and ‘Dream On’ by Sandy Freed are excellent books on this subject. 2.Hearing Hearing God can come as an audible voice to the human ear or it can come as a strong mental thought which comes from the Holy Spirit. 1 Kings 19:11‐13; Acts 22:7 3.Sensing Some people are more recep ve to receive from the Spirit, impressions, which can be physical, emo onal or spiritual. For example, a word of knowledge about healing may come by feeling a physical sensa on in your own body. A word may come as a sensing. We may not hear or see anything but have a sensing in our spirit what the Lord is saying.
