6. Hard Werken. Nos. 1 (April 1979) - 10 (1982). Rotterdam:
Stichting Hard Werken, 1979-1982. Complete run of the legendary
Dutch postmodern design and culture magazine. Small folio. Very
good. Illus. wraps. [318] $1500 Nos. 1 - 10 comprise a complete
run of the serial as such. However, the eponymous design
collective (comprised of editors Willem Kars, Gerard Hadders, Rick
Vermeulen, Henk Elenga and Ton van den Haspel) later released a
catalog called Hard Werken 11 and 11bis / Wild Plakken Ontwerpers. These items are not included with the present offering. As
of February 2017, OCLC does not identify a holding of the journal
in North America.
MUSIC & POP CULTURE
7. [Arthur Russell] A collection of 17 rare items of ephemera,
including works by Arthur Russell and Tom Lee. A collection of
handmade promotional material, most of it from Russell's own
lifetime, as well as key pieces charting his rediscovery by music
fans and critics over the past two decades. Highlights include hand
silkscreened postcards and original Xerox photocopied fliers made
by Russell and his partner Tom Lee to advertise small shows in
obscure venues around New York City, ca. 1975-1988. The
collection also includes an original 12 in. vinyl copy of the only
recording released under Russell's name before his death from
HIV/AIDS in 1991, "Tower of Meaning" New York: Open Skylight
Music, 1983 [Chatham Square CLS 145], with sleeve designed and
executed by Tom Lee in a first edition of only 320 copies. $4500
The present collection of ephemera is comprised entirely of rare
print multiples from the Arthur Russell estate, which retained a
small quantity of duplicates when the Oskaloosa, Iowa native's
archive was acquired by New York Public Library for the
Performing Arts in 2016.

regular issues and two supplements, ca. 28-50 pp. each,
comprising a complete run of the long-running and influential
underground country, rock, and folk music fanzine, illustrated with

Good to very good. Early issues stab-stapled, later numbers
saddle-stapled self wrappers. [153] $1350 Extremely scarce. As
of February 2015, OCLC does not locate Omaha Rainbow in North
America, with fewer than five incomplete sets housed in institutional collections in the United Kingdom. Named for the song
by folk rock pioneer John Stewart, O'Brien's fanzine included
interviews, news items, and reviews concerning a who's who of the
1970s and 1980s folk-rock and country revival, with significant
features on Stewart, Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons, Bruce Springsteen,
Townes Van Zandt, Emmylou Harris, Poco, Kursaal Flyers, and
many others.

3: "New York's Free Guide of Musical Styles." Vol. 2, no. 4 - vol. 4,
no. 1: "The Arrogant Voice of Musical Truth."] Thirteen issues
comprising a complete run of the influential hip-hop magazine.
4to. Fine. Glossy illus. wraps over newsprint, later issues printed on
coated stock. [82] $1350 ego trip began as an important regional
music magazine co-founded by Sacha Jenkins and Elliott Wilson
with funding from Henry Chalfant (co-edited by Jenkins, Wilson
and Jeff Mao) covering the golden age of 1990s hip hop from a
brash, opinionated, NYC point of view. Later, the brand went
national and evolved to include multimedia projects such as the
influential old-school rap compilation The Big Playback (Rawkus,
2000), the essential hip-hop books ego trip’s Book of Rap Lists (St.
Martin's Press, 1999) and ego trip's Big Book of Racism! (Regan
Books, 2002) as well as several branded television programs for
VH1. The original magazine included a manifesto for ghetto
consciousness by aerosol-art pioneer Phase II, in-depth articles
concerning the mechanics and legalities of sample clearing, the
production of rap videos, interviews with and profiles of Fab 5
Freddy, Bob Power, Method Man, Notorious B.I.G., Common, Mike
D, Ol' Dirty Bastard, the Beatnuts, Nas, Jeru the Damaja, PMD, KRSOne, Pharcyde, etc., as well as editorials, comics and record
reviews (including some indie rock, punk and metal), illustrated
throughout with photography by Chalfant, Lisa Leone, Shawn
Mortensen, Christian Lantry, Christina Casiano, C+ and others. All
in all, the serial provides invaluable documentation of hip-hop’s
evolution through the 1990s.

alphabetically catalog the independents and undergrounds, in the
process creating a blueprint for what would become known as

to be expected. Folded tabloid, issues A-P; Q-Z in glossy wraps,

nos. 1-80 of the follow up to OP, a trade glossy called "OPtion,"

introduction: “Posada’s principal techniques for his larger works
were engraving on type-metal and relief etching, by which he is
principally known. His woodcuts are mostly small and mostly were
made for vignettes. Almost all of the surviving blocks are published
here for the first time since Posada’s day. Many either never have
been published before or the original broadsides in which they
appeared have been destroyed, as was their nature. Many are
portraits; many are caricatures."

though they are hand-painted stencils. Cards are amazingly wellpreserved and almost like new.

the major arcana of the tarot deck in an Egyptian motif, after
Comte C. de Saint-Germain, each one accompanied by a detailed
description. Vol. 2: ca. 150 pp. manuscript, followed by several
blank pages and an additional ca. 72 pp. manuscript in a different
hand, both dealing with astrology, with a hand-drawn illustration of
a sphinx affixed to the front pastedown, and dozens of text figures
and diagrams throughout. The work begins with a chart entitled:

planetas que gobiernan las 12 horas del día y de la noche en cada

Suzanne La Follette was a noted figure among the New York
intellectual and society circles of her era. Poet, editor, and social
critic, her early interest in Soviet Marxism transformed into a

work meticulous through a series of intensive courses on the dyeing, printing, and patterning of woven fabrics, particularly silk, illustrated
throughout with approximately 115 plates showing technical illustrations and machine diagrams; 8 tipped-in trade catalogs and brochures for
textile manufacturing equipment produced by Schweiter, Benninger, Brügger and other firms; historical images of work in the silk trade; and
36 manuscript pages with 92 individually hand-painted color exercises illustrating the student's grasp of contemporary color theory, with
manuscript text references to Isaac Newton, Tobias Meyer, Wilhelm Ostwald, Goethe, Schopenhauer, and others. Small folio. Good. Appears

established in 1881 by a consortium of Swiss manufacturers worried by the competition posed by Chinese silk exporters. This text is a
student's transcription of one of the school's lecture courses on the theory of color and patterning in textile manufacture, among other topics.

highpoint of Constructivist picture books. When Lebedev showed
his pictures for Tsirk to Marshak, he immediately offered to write
the captions. Mayakovsky was particularly fond of Marshak's
contribution to the book. This is a remarkably fresh copy.

(MBB) and International Business Machines (IBM). A rare work, particularly with the complete set of called for prints intact, and one of the more
lavish early books on computer graphics.
