Goal: After finishing this lesson the student will be able to better understand and see how America reacted to the Great Depression, and understand and comprehend FDR’s New Deal programs and what they did for America, and how many are still in effect today. Outcome: Students will be able to list and briefly describe the New Deal programs. Lesson Title: Unit 6: The Great Depression and New Deal Warm-‐Up: Do Now Questions on the front of the board. Activities: Students will fill in the blank answers to ensure clear note taking and understanding as teacher leads the class in a discussion of the New Deal and FDR’s role as president. Accommodations/Modifications: Students will be lead in writing down notes. Assessment/Reflection: How did each student react to answering the questions? Were students engaged in the discussion and add to and bring up different issues then laid out? Tuesday: New Deal Program Activity Objectives: To develop a clear understanding of FDR’s New Deal and how America dealt with and emerged from the Great Depression. Goal: After finishing this lesson the student will be able to better understand and see how America reacted to the Great Depression, and understand and comprehend FDR’s New Deal programs and what they did for America, and how many are still in effect today. Outcome: Students will be able to list and briefly describe the New Deal programs Lesson Title: Unit 6: The Great Depression and New Deal Warm-‐Up: Pick up New Deal Program worksheet Activities: Students will be placed into groups of (3) and then asked to complete and their “New Deal Agencies” worksheet. Students are to open up their baggies containing (Programs, Purpose, and Results) of many different agencies during this time. Students are to work with their groups to complete their worksheets, have them checked and then write down the correct answers on their worksheet in the blanks. First group to complete the page correctly wins (5 tickets). Students will this use this tomorrow **Turn in when complete Modifications/Accommodations: Students will be placed with a student to help them and teacher as well will be walking around the room helping students ensure understanding. Highlight all the programs for the common man 2. Star programs that deal with banking 3. Triangle those that are used to create jobs 4. Do you agree or disagree with the large amounts of programs that FDR put into action. What are some that you as congress would not agree with or what are some ways you could tweek some of the programs to be more successful. Outcome: Students will be able to list and briefly describe the New Deal programs Lesson Title: Unit 6: The Great Depression and New Deal Warm-‐Up: Students will answer DO NOW Questions Activities: Play YouTube video: Great Depression To Great Recession (part 1 of 3) Allow them to then discuss this woman’s first hand account, and ask them if they liked hearing a first hand account of a woman who had lived during the depression. Students will get out a sheet of notebook paper. And take notes on this first hand account of a woman who lived during the Great Depression. And at the end we will all discuss her story. Can you think about what your story would be? Can you relate with Grandpa at times? Assessment/Reflection: Did students listen to the video? Did they take notes? Were they engaged in the video? Did they relate to anything today? Describe 4 ways that people took their mind off the Great Depression during the 1930’s 5. How did the government restore confidence in the banking system? 6. Describe 4 programs that were apart for FDR’s New Deal Activities: For all the time allowed after the questions are complete from DO NOW, students are to work and complete their Review for the test next Monday.
