When does the story take place? 3. Notice what the main character thinks, says, and does. 4. Use what you already know about people and places to help you understand the story. 5. Answer the questions: What is the main character like? Where and when does the story happen? Vocabulary: compass, brand-new, muttered, darted, mug, talker If you don’t know the meaning of these words, look them up in a dictionary. Watch for how these words are used during reading.
