About This Calendar
This calendar is organized annually with input from District administration, the parent
organization from each school, the Shorewood Recreation and Community Services
Department, District staff members and SEED. We have done our best to be accurate and
include the dates and events that affect the greatest number of people. However, some
of the dates are submitted as much as a year in advance, and, unfortunately, conflicts
can occur. Please read building and District newsletters and flyers as well as the District
website (shorewoodschools.org) for date changes, updates and additions.
This calendar is only one of many services that the parent organizations provide for our
schools. Our students, staff members, and parents all benefit from parent organization
sponsorship. See the parent organization pages at the end of this calendar for a list of
activities and contacts.
Important Information
Phone Numbers
All phone numbers listed in this calendar are area code 414 unless otherwise indicated.
School Volunteers
The Shorewood Recreation and Community Services Department coordinates volunteers
for the District. Do you have a special skill or area of expertise that would benefit
Shorewood Schools? Do you enjoy working with children? District volunteers are used
in many capacities, such as one-on-one homework tutors, organizing teacher libraries,
coaching youth sports teams, and more. All volunteers must submit an online application
which is located on the District website (shorewoodschools.org) under the Family
Resources tab. Within ten business days of submission, you will receive an email with
access to VICnet, an online volunteer information center which will allow you to sign
up for District volunteer opportunities and log your volunteer hours. All individuals
will undergo a background check before they are approved to volunteer. For more
information, please contact the Recreation Department at 963-6913 x4.
Immunizations
Wisconsin law requires all students in kindergarten through grade 12 and children
enrolled in child care centers to be immunized. Each Shorewood student must have
a record of immunizations on file, or must submit a signed waiver claiming health,
religious or personal conviction reasons for not being immunized. Consult your doctor or
local health department for a list of the required immunizations.
Change of residence/phone
Please notify the appropriate school office immediately if you have a change in your
address, email or phone number. Advance notification of any changes helps to ensure
that the District will be able to contact you in the event of an emergency.
Student Work Permits
Work Permits are available for students under the age of 18 in the SHS Student Support
Services Office (963-6942) during regular office hours. Please bring student’s original
social security card, one other form of ID (state ID, birth certificate, passport), a letter from
employer, and a note from a parent/guardian giving the minor permission to work, along
with $10 cash.
SEED
The Shorewood SEED Foundation (Supporters of Excellence in Educational Development)
is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving excellence in
Shorewood’s public schools. For more information, visit shorewoodseed.org and be sure
to ‘Like’ Shorewood SEED on Facebook! You can also contact any of the Board members

School District of Shorewood
Nutritional Services
The School District of Shorewood, through its food service management company,
Taher, offers a meal program at every school. Links to the menus can be found on
our website under Family Resources. Meal prices, including milk and juice, are listed
below:
SIS/SHS Breakfast: $1.40/day
SIS/SHS Lunch: $3.00/day
Atwater/Lake Bluff Lunch: $2.70/day
Milk/Juice/Water Only: $0.40/$0.50/$1.00/day
Online Prepayment Option: This automated system eliminates meal tickets and
cash in the lunch line. Each student will have his or her own account. See the District
website (under the Family Resources/ Food Service tab) or contact Nutritional Services
at 963-6914 for more information.
Free or Reduced Price Meals are available for qualified families. Applications
cannot be filled out online, but will be available at Forms and Fees Days and are
available for printing in the school offices and on the District website. A form must
be completed for each household and returned to the Business Office, located at the
high school. Applications may be submitted anytime during the school year.

Shorewood Advancement:
Great Communities Start with Great Schools
The Shorewood Advancement Office seeks to build support through fundraising
and partnerships to continue our school district’s tradition of excellence.
Generous individuals and organizations have donated over $2 million to
Shorewood Schools and the Shorewood SEED Foundation over the last two
years to support education in our community. The Shorewood Advancement
Office also welcomes alumni engagement, organizing activities for Shorewood
graduates, providing tours, and supporting alumni groups interested in
returning to Shorewood High School for reunions.

Mission
The mission of the School District of Shorewood is to provide a liberal arts education that prepares
students to embrace the challenges of the future. We will foster a love of learning and the acquisition
of knowledge and skills that will serve as the foundation and catalyst for a lifetime of learning.
CORE BELIEFS:
• Every member of the school community is valued for
his or her contribution to the School District.
• The care and education of all children are the first
obligations of the entire community.
• The family plays a vital role in the education of the
child.
• All children want to discover and deserve to reach
their potential.
• An effective school demonstrates high expectations,
open communication, cooperation, tangible support,
accountability, and shared responsibility.
• Rich, nurturing experiences give children a greater
opportunity to succeed.
• Children will become increasingly responsible for
their success as they mature.
• Our community is strengthened when diversity
is valued.
• An effective learning community is based on
continuous professional growth of all community
members.
• In an effective learning community, everyone works
to establish and maintain positive relationships built
on respect and dignity.
• A safe, orderly, healthy, and clean environment
enhances learning.
• Learning is memorable and powerful when all school
community members are active, involved, and find
personal meaning in the experience.
• Quality education incorporates authentic, real-world
learning experiences.
• Quality education prepares children to work
collaboratively and to be caring, contributing citizens
of a democratic and global society.
Vision of the School District of Shorewood
The School District of Shorewood will guide a diverse student body toward wellness through a
balanced curriculum delivered by caring staff members in an inclusive environment.
A student from the Shorewood School District integrates all seven components of
wellness and:
• will be intellectually aware, continually seeking to expand knowledge, confidence,
and skills as a lifelong learner (cognitive wellness)
• will be physically fit and be able to care for self through physical activities/exercise, nutrition, understanding risk,
and making healthy lifestyle choices (physical wellness)
• will understand how to find personal satisfaction and balance in both work and other areas of life
(occupational wellness)
• will be able to develop and maintain strong relationships that are interconnected and directed toward strengthening
the individual, the family, and the community (social wellness)
• will be able to recognize and accept his or her feelings; will appropriately express and manage emotions
(emotional wellness)
• will appreciate the interdependence between self and nature; will enhance the environment through good stewardship
of individual living space and the larger community (environmental wellness)
• will have an appreciation for the meaning of life, working toward finding a place in and contributing to society
(spiritual wellness)

SHS Newsletter Editor: Carolyn Curran, [email protected]
The SHS Parent Association (all SHS parents and guardians are members)
offers a vehicle for communication between the high school and families
in the form of the SHS Newsletter which is distributed via email to our
high school community.
In addition to providing this weekly communication, the Parent
Association also coordinates staff appreciation events, Post-Prom, the
Senior Celebration, and Parent Forums, as well as the production of the
SHS Student Directory. We welcome parent participation and support.
Please watch the newsletter for opportunities to become involved or
contact one of our co-presidents.

Welcome
The SIS PTO would like to welcome all new and returning
students and their families back to school! The PTO is an
organization of parents and staff of SIS. The PTO’s goal is to
foster a nurturing and caring environment that encourages
continued parent involvement. Please join us, as we need
your ideas and energy!
Here are some of the events planned so far that will need
your help:
September 9: Family Picnic, 5-7 p.m.
October 18-20: Scholastic Book Fair
October 19: 7th Grade Courage Retreat
May 1-5: Staff Appreciation Week
June 7: 8th Grade Celebration
Stay Connected
The PTO sends news to SIS families through the school’s
weekly email. If you are not already receiving an email from
SIS every Thursday, please contact the school office at
963-6950 to be sure your current email address is on
record.
