E1-A students should watch one movie per quarter and follow the procedure above. Summer Movies *RH only *RH only The Six Wives of Henry VIII Anna Karenina 1997 BBC, Masterpiece Theaters Shakespeare Movies to be watched before Week ONE: E3, A, B TWELTH NIGHT B,C,D,E MACBETH* PAideia Disclaimer for the three versions of Macbeth available on Netflix: Remember this is a tragedy with killing, deceit and blood. No version will cut Lady Macbeth’s famous line, “Out, out damn spot.” She has just practiced regicide and therefore must suffer this consequence, and we, the viewer must suffer with her. Macbeth 1979 (Dame Judy Dench) Oldest version. Some grainy scenes and perhaps a bit “corny” for modern viewers. Macbeth 1998 (English Sean Pertwee) This is the modern version we viewed four years ago. Parents watch with children with pillows in laps. It has some nudity, but I can’t remember where since we watched a “clean” version. Macbeth 2010 (Patrick Stewart) By far the most blatantly evil telling of the tale, and probably closest to what Shakespeare had in mind. The cruel couple are wicked and bloody. Again, pillows for immodesty. ©2010 PACES Inc.
