Registration. Thru the Klub office we are also seeking some
additional Volunteers. We need a keyboard player for our
Worship Service, a choir director and a choir; and, also
a soloist for Opening Ceremonies to sing the National
Anthems. Also we are looking for someone to coordinate our
Caring and Sharing Program; the collection and boxing up
of donated items to be given to a local Essex Junction charity.
Please let us hear from you, as these musically inclined duties
are not something you would want us to do, and someone has
to do them. If you have questions regarding the golf tournament
we refer you to the notice in this issue.
HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING
BY: JIM & WILMA WEEKS
VICKY KAUFMAN AND LINDA FEECE
Where did the winter go? April is here, and I’m sure the majority
of us have made the trek north. We are now at the Newmar
campground and it’s exciting to be “back home”. Spring has
sprung, farmers are in the fields, Vicky is back and RV’s are
on the move. Linda has done an excellent job holding things
together in the office over the winter months, which we knew
she would.
If you have checked out the “Calendar of Events” you will
see that the Regions, States/Provinces and Chapters are
really gearing up for a busy rally season and it’s exciting for
all of us to see our Newmar Family again. We are watching the
“Calendar of Events” as we do plan to attend a number of your
rallies this year.
Plans are falling into shape nicely for our International Rally,
June 13-18 in Essex Junction, Vermont. It is really a beautiful
part of the country, and there are so many interesting adventures
to take in before and after the Rally. We do hope you plan
to attend and sign up soon if you haven’t done so as the
deadline for the early bird drawing is Friday, April 15th.
There are a variety of tours available and I’m sure you will
find one that interests you. You will find craft classes listed
separately in this issue and we encourage you to sign up early.
We are working on a variety of seminars and hope to have a
nice selection for you. Meals include 4 continental breakfasts;
and, dinners will be on Tuesday and Friday. Sunday evening
we plan to have a Worship Service. Monday evening’s
entertainment will be Sherwin & Pam Linton. Sherwin’s
accomplishments as a performer include being nominated for
Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, making the
Top 10 numerous times, and he has been inducted into nine
Halls of Fame. Tuesday after dinner Woody & Jean Miller
will present “One Nation Under God” which you won’t want
to miss. Wednesday and Thursday evenings are open for you
to take the optional dinner cruise and/or have your Region or
State/Provincial get-togethers. Friday’s entertainment will be
the Starline Rhythm Boys Variety Show.
Your Regional Directors will be needing help at International
so please offer your assistance. If you don’t get around to
signing up ahead of time, there will be signup sheets during
Page 10
GOLF CART RENTALS MUST BE MADE DIRECTLY WITH
JOHN OR CAROLYN THOMPSON AT 802-863-9138. THERE
ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF CARTS AVAILABLE, AND
RESERVATION DEADLINE IS APRIL 30TH.
Since the Konnection is our main line of communication with
our members it is extremely important that we keep it going.
If there is no printed Konnection it cannot be on the webpage.
The Konnection needs to be self-supporting and we need to
come up with creative ideas to make this happen. We do thank
those of you who have made a donation, either personally, from
your Chapters or from fund raisers. During the International
Rally we plan to have a “Silent Auction” with proceeds going
to the Konnection. Please bring something new or slightly
used to donate. By each item there will be a paper for you to
write down your bid and it will go to the highest bidder at the
designated cut off time. If there are no bids on your item you will
need to pick it up. This will also require volunteers, so please
help us out.
If you have not been on the Grand Circle Caravan Tour or
the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta you may want to consider
one of them for this fall. So far the numbers attending have
been sufficient to allow us to offer these trips for a number of
years. At this time we still are booking the Alaska Caravan,
but the deadline date is coming up fast; so if you are interested
please don’t hesitate to call the Klub office and get registered for
this “once in a lifetime” adventure! The Newfoundland Caravan
was sold out but due to a medical emergency situation at
the time of this printing we have an opening! Call as soon as
possible if you would like to join this caravan and we can update
you on the availability. See the individual rally reservation
forms elsewhere in this issue or our website for complete
details of the above special events.
During the International Rally we will have Seminars informing
prospects of the details of the several of the special events;
however, if you have been on one of them we also encourage
you to attend and share your experience with us.
We will be stationed in Nappanee now until we leave for
Vermont. We encourage you to stop by the office, or at our unit
in the Newmar Campground, as we would like to meet you. Our
philosophy is “you can’t have enough friends” and we want to
be yours. We are always ready to have dinner out, or an evening
of games.
May God Bless and protect you in your travels and in your life’s
journey.

2011 INTERNATIONAL
rally information
Please let me remind you that there is no coach in the
Newmar line that REQUIRES 50 AMPS to camp. In larger
coaches it does require the occupants to be careful what
they try to run and most of you do. We did NOT experience
any problems at last year’s rally other than those caused
by the coach occupants themselves and those were very
few.
In order to reserve a site, all your paperwork must be
in order and all fees paid in full at time of registration.
You can mail, fax your reservation to the office (574-7735130), or sign up on line (www.newmarkountryklub.com).
We cannot take phone reservations for the International.
TRAMS
There will be TRAMS at the rally. There will also be golf
carts available for rent for those of you who would like
to rent them. Rental information is elsewhere in this issue
you would need to reserve the cart direct thru the cart
company. Deadline to reserve a cart is April 30, 2011.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR RESERVATION FORM
BEFORE SENDING
We receive many forms that are not completely filled out,
or with incorrect credit card information or check amounts.
Unfortunately if we have to try to reach you to clear up a
problem it will delay your reservation being processed.
Please be sure to provide your email and cell number on
your form.
EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION
Will you be one of the lucky rally attendees? This year’s
early bird deadline is Friday, April 15. If your reservation
is received by that day you will be included in the drawing
to be held during Opening Ceremonies.
SERVICE AT INTERNATIONAL RALLY
Within your reservation packet you will receive a Service
Request form in a yellow envelope. Be sure to fill out the
form and return to the service department by deadline
date. If you do not have time to mail by that date, bring
paperwork to the rally and proceed to the non-registered
line for service write-ups. In order to service as many
customers as possible during the rally, the Service
Department will prioritize their service in the following
sequence:
Emergency customers will be serviced first. Emergency
items are ONLY items that would prevent a coach from
leaving the rally, or render a coach uninhabitable.
Warranty customers will be serviced in order of date of
purchase, beginning with the most recent.
Out-of-warranty customers will also be serviced in order
of date of purchase, beginning with the most recent.
Newmar will offer this service at a reduced service rate
plus reduced cost of parts.
Page 12
PARTS DEPARTMENT
The Parts Department will bring an inventory of the
more popular parts for you to purchase during the rally.
Remember, if they do not have the part at the rally you
can order it for later delivery. Start working on your list of
parts needed.
HANDICAP & DIABETIC MEMBERS
Please make sure we are aware of your needs by indicating
on your reservation form. For Handicap parking we will
need a copy of your mirror hang tag or a letter from your
doctor sent with your reservation.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE RALLY
Within this issue you will see an editorial listing areas we
need help with. Not only will you be helping your fellow
Klub members but it’s a great way to meet new friends.
Call the Klub office 877-639-5582 and ask for Linda, she
will be glad to sign you up. Your Region Directors and the
Fulltimers’ Chapter are also looking for volunteers; please
contact them direct for information on duties involved.
RECEIVING MAIL AT THE RALLY
You can have mail sent to you during the rally. Please use
this address for any mail or packages: Newmar Kountry
Klub, your name and Klub number, c/o Champlain Valley
Exposition, 105 Pearl St, Essex Junction, VT 05453. Also
have it marked “Hold for Pickup”. Please do not have
anything delivered before June 8th. Any items received
after the rally will be returned to sender.
DISPLAY YOUR KLUB NUMBERS
Please be sure your Klub number is displayed as you
come in to the rally so our parking crews can keep track
of all our arrivals. If we need to locate your unit in the
event of an emergency the visible numbers are the fastest
way to find you. They are also necessary for the service
department or any vendors who are working on your unit
to locate you. Thanks for your cooperation.

website. You can access
this information via links
on NKK’s on-line calendar
or via the Fulltimers link on
NKK’s main web page. Viki
and I couldn’t be more excited about the quality of rallies
planned for this year. We hope you’ll take a look at the
flyers and try to join us for one or more of them. Hope
to see you there, because Viki & I will be attending each
one.
I want to clarify something about our Humanitarian
Project at this year’s Fulltimers Annual Rally and
Business Meeting being held in Wilmington, NY, this June.
This year’s project is to put together hygiene kits for the
local women’s shelter. We’re asking attendees to bring
soap, comb, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, dental
floss, hand/body lotion, and toothbrushes (must be in a
packaged container). How much you purchase is up to
you; however, please purchase the same number of all
items previously listed. Also, please do not separate them
into kits. We will combine all like items at the rally and
create the kits as part of the project. Remember, all items
must be sized to fit into a one-gallon, zip-lock plastic bag.
Also, if you cannot attend the rally (or do not want to buy
the items yourself), but would still like to contribute to this
cause, please send a check made out to Viki Goodner and
send to: Viki Goodner, PMB 378314, 3590 Round Bottom
Road, Cincinnati, OH 45244-3026. We will purchase the
items for you.
Our next chapter event is the Fulltimers Annual Rally
and Business Meeting, June 6-11 in Wilmington, New
York. We’ve written extensively about this rally in our
chapter’s Traveling Times Newsletter; however, let me
touch on just a few highlights here. This rally will take
place in the Adirondack Mountains and will emphasize
seeing the many attractions in that area, which include
the historic Fort Ticonderoga, Natural Stone Bridge and
Caves, High Falls Gorge, and John Brown’s farm. We’ll
also enjoy a day exploring the quaint town of Lake Placid
(home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics) and its
surrounding areas. As detailed in the first paragraph,
you can register for this rally via NKK’s on-line calendar
or Fulltimers website. Following our rally, we’ll caravan
directly to Essex Junction, Vermont, and enjoy the 2011
NKK International Rally. Looking for a fun adventure?
Then take a look at the flyer on our website, and join us.
This month, we’re featuring the Oktoberfest in Texas
Rally in our framed ad, immediately following this
article. We invite all NKK members to join us for this
Page 14
wonderful event, especially you Texans, who may
already be in the area. The rally will take place from
September 29-October 3. Although our campground
is in Kerrville, the Oktoberfest festivities are held in
nearby Fredericksburg, Texas. Besides the Oktoberfest
activities, there are an amazing number of things to do
and see in this area. Here are some examples: Tour the
Johnson Ranch and LBJ Presidential Library; visit the
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (near Austin); tour
the National Museum of the Pacific War (Fredericksburg
was Admiral Nimitz’s home town); wander around Gruene,
where they “Gently Resist Change Since 1872”; spend a
day in Bandera, the “Cowboy Capital of the World”; stop
in the Museum of Western Art & James Avery Jewelry in
Kerrville; have lunch at one of Fredericksburg’s many fine
restaurants; or even visit the Alamo and lunch on San
Antonio’s famous River Walk.
Then, we’ll finish up the year in grand style with another
traveling rally – the Three Belles of Dixie Roving Rally.
This rally takes place November 4-17 and begins in
Charleston, South Carolina, travels to Savannah,
Georgia, and ends in Brunswick, Georgia, near Jekyll
Island. Again, see our flyer on the NKK/Fulltimers Chapter
website. We’ll cover this in more detail at a later time.

APRIL 2011
REGION 1 // AZ, CA, CO, NM, NV, UT
Region Directors :: Gary & Tammy Beeler (9631)
We’re in the midst of the
2011 spring rally season
here in Region 1. The
Arizona Sun Catchers
Chapter and the California
Golden Bears Chapter
held great rallies in March.
In April the New Mexico
Chile Pepper Chapter will
host a rally at Elephant
Butte Lake and the Region
1 Rally will take place in
Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 26-30.
We are looking forward to the NKK International Rally in
Essex Junction, Vermont in mid-June. The initial indications
are that quite a few Region 1 folks are planning to head
east this summer. We hope that many of you are making
plans to join us—in spite of the high cost of fuel.
The California State Rally is May 8-12 in Chula Vista near
the beautiful San Diego area of California. The New Mexico
and Arizona State Rallies are scheduled for October.
There will be more information on the fall rallies in future
issues of the Konnection.
We are sad to report that Gayle Danzak passed away in
February from her very aggressive cancer. She and her
husband, Dick, did an admirable job in their two years
as Nevada State Directors and they will be missed in the
NKK family. Our prayers go out to Dick and his family.
We would like to encourage you to sign up for the NKK
Grand Circle Caravan planned for this fall. We had a great
time leading this caravan last year with a wonderful group
of other Newmar owners. If you have friends with “some
other brand” of RV, invite them to join you on a great
adventure.
:: Arizona
By the time you read this the Arizona Sun Catcher, spring
training rally will be over, and the group is attending one or
more major league spring training games in the Phoenix
area. The last I heard 22 rigs were signed up for this event.
Mike & Peggy Williams along with Bob & Dixie Carver are
hosting this event! Thank You!
Everyone we talk to is getting ready for the summer travel
season, Region 1 is coming soon, several chapter and
state rallies are fast approaching and we would love to
have as many join us at International as possible, Currently
Page 15
I am aware of quite a few Region 1 members that are
attending, all I can say the more the merrier.
The Arizona winter luncheon schedule is in full swing, and
we understand participation is great, all over the state.
The 2011 Arizona
State Rally is in the
final planning stage!
I know it will include
a visit to one of the
Seven Wonders of
the World, great
food, and a lot of
fun. Keep the last
weekend of October
open for this event.
Travel safe and have a great summer.

:: California
By the time you read this issue, the cutoff dates for two
of the California rallies will have passed and the results of
those rallies will be included in the August issue. The two
rallies are the Golden Bears Rally held in Chowchilla from
March 27-31 and the California State Rally held in Chula
Vista May 8-12. However, the two remaining rallies are the
California 49ers which will be from September 19-23 and
the California Golden Aires rally from November 14-18.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. See the
49ers Chapter write-up below for more details. A writeup for the California Golden Aires rally will be included in
future issues.
Also, remember that even though you may miss the
published sign-up cutoff dates then decide you would like
to attend, call the host and he may be able to work with
the RV Park to include you. See the “Calendar of Events”
at the back of this issue for contact information for all
rallies. For issues relating with the California State Rally,
contact Bill Conway at 949-837-5589 or 949-680-9629 or

:: New Mexico
We have survived our historical freezing weather and all
that goes with it, and are looking forward to a great year
of rallies in beautiful warm weather.
Our first Chile Pepper rally is in beautiful Elephant Butte,
New Mexico April 21-24. Our president is hosting the rally
where we will have full hook-ups. Contact cward186@
comcast.net or 505 296-2207 for details. Don’t miss out
on this good time.
We will then be going to the Region 1 Rally in Albuquerque
which is scheduled for April 26-30. There are wonderful
activities planned for our time together and the American
RV Park is a great park. We look forward to seeing you
there.
August 25-28 Dave & Carolyn Kelsey are hosting the rally
at Little Creel Lodge & RV Park in Chama, New Mexico.
There is lots to see and do there and they always do a
fine job of planning and hosting for our Chile Peppers.

:: Nevada Mother Lode
We lost a dear friend and Klub member this last February,
Gayle Danzak, to cancer. In just 18 months, we became
very close and will be forever in her debt for the help she
gave us. After attending her memorial, we know she
would want us to continue.
Although we do not have a price nailed down for the Mother
Lode Rally, we do have a location which is the Carson
Valley RV Resort and Casino in Minden, Nevada, and the
dates are September 28-October 2. We plan on tours of
the preserved Dangberg Home Ranch State Park (ranch
est. 1857), Nevada State Capital building in Carson City
with lunch at the Bucket of Blood Saloon in Virginia City
and a trip to Genoa to tour the first non-native settlement
in Nevada (state park). Rally will include breakfast each
morning as well as a couple of dinners. We are looking
forward to enjoying the rally with you. Start making your
plans to join us the end of September.

APRIL 2011
REGION 2 // AK, ID, MT, OR, WA, WY
Region Directors :: Mike & Carol Lowery (10354-L)
Happy Easter Everyone!
As we reflect back to
the last three months
being able to spend part
of our winter in the great
southwest; we feel VERY
blessed to be able to live
the “RV Lifestyle”. Our
Newmar unit is such a
wonderful coach, it’s easy
to spend months at a time
traveling around because there is SO much to see and do
in this country.
Our Region’s members are very good at recruiting new
Klub members when they see other Newmar products
while traveling and in campgrounds. Let’s all keep up
that good work to encourage new membership. We feel
very lucky to have so many friends in our Newmar family.
We’ve all been first-timers; so let’s make all the “newbies”
feel welcome.
We are gearing up for our International Rally duties. Our
Parking & Registration crew is almost finalized and we
really appreciate all the dedication we’ll receive from our
helpers. We work hard, but there are laughs along the way.
Just have to remember we’re all VOLUNTEERS! We know
Jim & Wilma Weeks and Linda Feece have already put
a lot of work into the success of this year’s International
Rally, and we appreciate their time and energy. So join
us in Essex Junction; and from there you have a TON of
choices of sites to visit in that area of the country.
Has everyone noticed the new look of the Konnection?
Good job to the Klub Office and their publisher – it
looks great! Don’t forget to sign up for your subscription
for a hard-copy. We often look in previous articles for
something or other.
This year’s Region 2 Rallies are noted on our website,
on the “Schedule of Events”, and discussed elsewhere
in this article. There is a lot of beautiful country in the
northwest. We are excited about our Region 2 Rally in
Richland, Washington, as we have a tour lined up to go
inside one of the country’s National Historic Landmarks.
The Department of Energy Site at Hanford has a few bustours a year of this retired nuclear reactor built in 1944.
We find it especially interesting since the DOE site was
our lively-hood for years. After 9/11, the tours were halted
for some time – so we’re glad we were finally able to get
this on our agenda.
Page 18
We still have openings for State Directors for Alaska
and Wyoming. If you live in one of those states and are
interested in getting it more active, please contact us.
Safe Travels!
:: Idaho
Donna & I have spent the winter in North Idaho so we have
had some extra time to work on the Idaho State/Spudnut
Chapter Rally. We have reserved 25 spaces at Blackwell
Island RV Resort on Lake Coeur d’Alene and the Spokane
River. Coeur d’Alene is a beautiful area in North Idaho
and the resort has all of the amenities for a great rally.
We have a fun rally planned with one full breakfast by the
Spudnut Chapter and two continental breakfasts, one with
Donna’s famous homemade cinnamon rolls. We also have
a 90-minute lake cruise which concludes with a prime rib
dinner with all the trimmings, beverage and dessert. Also
planned is an afternoon and evening in Wallace where we
will attend the famous Wallace Melodrama. Wallace is an
old mining town which is rich in history. This will also be
a buddy rally so if you have RV friends who do not own a
Newmar product, they can sign up and attend with you.
See our rally ad in this issue of the Konnection and the
Region 2 Idaho website at www.newmarkountryklub.com.

:: Montana
We don’t know where this winter has gone but it has
certainly gone fast. We spent the winter in Yuma, Arizona,
where every day is an adventure; so much to do and so
many wonderful friends. While in Yuma, we organized
a luncheon for Newmar owners on the first Tuesday of
every month through the winter. It was well attended and
everyone could meet and share tips with others who have
the same rigs.
There isn’t much happening in Montana during the winter
as far as RVing is concerned, so nothing to report there.
Our rally is planned for August 18-21 in Ennis, Montana.
For information, call Warren at 406-670-2850.
Warren and Anne Weaver (10889)
Montana State Directors
:: Washington
It doesn’t seem possible that time is passing so fast and
rally season is in full swing. We were able to attend the
Quartzsite, Arizona, “Gathering in the Desert” for the
first time. What fun. We were able to reconnect with
Newmar Family that we hadn’t seen for some time and
the opportunity to meet new friends. That’s what a rally
is all about! What an opportunity to make new friends
and learn about their time in an RV. Of course the show in
Quartzsite is really interesting. If it’s made for an RV you
would find it at that show!
APRIL 2011
When we returned from the desert, we hosted a
hamburger feed with some of our Newmar Family in the
Yuma area. Others came from Indio and the Phoenix
areas. We were so pleased to spend time with our past
Region 2 Directors, Jay & Donna Weewie (4226-L). They
both looked wonderful and it was great to hear about their
adventures since retiring. It was also fun to catch up with
Leland & Marlene Florence (4323-L), past Washington
State Directors, and Gary & Marilyn Larson (9109-L), past
Idaho State Directors.
REGION 2
RALLY
Our plans are all coming together for the Washington
State Rally in Deer Park. Because there will be so much to
do you better plan an extra day or two in the area. If that
is the case, be sure to contact the RV Park in advance
and request extra time. We cannot take in all that will
be available and who knows, you might see something
during the rally that would make you want to learn more.
One of the things we are excited about is the Spokane
County Fair. This part of Eastern Washington is known for
several different crops, wheat, lentils, hay and, of course,
cattle and dairy farms and fruit orchards. The fair is a time
to show all the things that make our State well known
throughout the USA and all of the exports that go all over
the world. Another thing of interest will be Green Bluff.
That is an area that has gardens and orchards. We think
this part of our State has the best fruit available.
INCLUDES:
Tour of Manhattan Project B
Reactor, the world’s first fullscale nuclear reactor (availability
based on the Security Condition
level). 4 Nights Camping with

& “FUN”
Richland, Washington
April 19-23, 2011
OPTIONAL:

In the next Konnection, we will have all the final details
for the Rally. Just remember to save September 8-12 for
the Washington State Rally being held at the Spokane
RV Resort at Deer Park, Washington. We look forward to
seeing you there!
Until then…safe travels.

SILENT AUCTION TO BE HELD AT
THIS YEAR’S INTERNATIONAL RALLY
Since the Konnection is our main line of communication with our
members it is extremely important that we keep it going. If there is
no printed Konnection it cannot be on the webpage. The Konnection
needs to be self-supporting and we need to come up with creative
ideas to make this happen. During the International Rally we plan
to have a “Silent Auction” with proceeds going to the Konnection.
Please bring something new or slightly used to donate. By each
item there will be a paper for you to write down your bid and it will
go to the highest bidder at the designated cut off time. If there are
no bids on your item you will need to pick it up. If you would like to
volunteer to help with this project please call the Klub office.

REGION 3 // AR, KS, LA, MO, OK, TX
Region Directors :: Larry & Patsy Wood (12255-L)
Greetings to our Newmar
Friends! This has been a
crazy winter in Oklahoma
this
year.
Record
breaking snows and cold
temperatures
greeted
us after we returned
from San Diego. Larry
definitely made use of
4-wheel drive for almost
two weeks in late January
and early February as he
drove through 14-inch
snow to work at the Tulsa Boat, Sport, and Travel Show.
In spite of the bad weather and poor economy, there is
a ray of sunshine in the RV industry, as most of the RV
dealers were satisfied with their sales during the show. As
usual, they would have like to have sold more units, but
they went away from the show with numerous contracts
in hand, so things are looking up.
The temperature went from -31 degrees to 72 degrees
in six days. Just when it warmed up, we flew to Ft.
Lauderdale where we joined 50 other Newmar Kountry
Klub members for a cruise through the Panama Canal. It
was a wonderful cruise, and we enjoyed getting to see old
friends and make new ones. The only downside was the
day that Larry had a fight with the sidewalk in the Costa
Rica rainforest. The sidewalk won, and Larry ended up
with five stitches in his knee.
The Region 3 Rally will be at Catherine’s Landing in Hot
Springs, Arkansas, October 3-7. This is a brand new RV
Park located on the banks of Lake Catherine. It is quiet
and secluded with ample parking for everyone. There are
many things to do in Hot Springs. The only problem is
trying to find enough time to do everything.
Region 3 is now getting into the full swing of rally season
with a lot of chapters having rallies in April. As you are
reading this, the Louisiana State Rally will be in full swing.
If you are not here with us, you are missing a great time.
Don’t forget the Texas State Rally is scheduled at the Lake
Conroe KOA in Montgomery, Texas, April 28-May 1. The
next State Rally on the schedule at the present time is
the Kansas State Rally at Deer Creek Valley RV Park in
Topeka, Kansas, August 18-2. The Missouri Rally will be
held at Peculiar Park Place, Peculiar, Missouri, September
21-25.
We hope to see many of you at the upcoming rallies.

We are still looking for volunteers to help with duties at
the International Rally. Our responsibilities are: trams,
seminars, and Craft Contest. Let us know if you will be
available to assist us. We can be reached at 918-6307470 or [email protected].
Safe travels. God Bless.
:: Arkansas
Most of us have made it home from the Texas Rio Grande
Valley just in time for the beautiful spring flowers blooming
in Arkansas.
We are excited about the busy rally schedule this year
with Hot Springs being the host city for our Region 3 Rally.
Plans are also in the final stages for our Spring Chapter
Rally and the State Rally in the fall. We are going to need
all of our chapter members to volunteer with some of
these events.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 26th Kountry
Klub International Rally June 13-18 at Essex Junction,
Vermont. Terry & I will be unable to attend but Chapter
Presidents, Ken & Delois Cox, will be there. They will be
looking for volunteers to help them at the rally. If you have
any questions about travel plans or volunteer positions,
please call or e-mail them ([email protected]
501-276-3695).
Keep chapter members, George & Ruth Kirtley, in your
prayers as she continues to recover from double hip
replacement.
Our prayer is that you are in your place this Easter Season
and are able to worship a risen Savior with family and
friends.

In our February article, we mentioned that we would leave
for South Texas on New Year’s Day. Our schedule went as
planned, and we also made a stop in McKinney, Texas on
the way. McKinney is the home of MCD Innovations who
is the manufacturer of day/night shades for RVs. They
also make OEM shades for some of the new Newmar
models. Sherry & I have never cared for the pull around
privacy curtain in the front of our 2004 Mountain Aire, and
we were looking for something different. After I saw an
article about MCD in one of the RV publications, I visited
their website then we decided to call for an appointment
on the way south. To make a long story short, we ended
up having new day/night shades put in the cockpit area
of our motor home. The shades in the windshield area are
motorized and also replace the original electric sun visors.
The installation crew at MCD came to our coach, discussed
what we wished to have installed, took measurements,
and then had a cost estimate prepared. After we agreed
APRIL 2011
on what we wanted done, we paid up front for all but the
installation cost and then the shades were manufactured
and installed. The whole process takes three to four days
(depending on what is done) and to say the least, we are
very happy with our new shades.
Some of our Missouri Mid-Mo Show Me and Ozark
Wanderlust members have wintered in Arizona, California,
Florida and Texas; away from the freezing, cold and
snowy “winter wonderland” our home state encountered
this year.
During our stay in South Texas, we attended the January
and February Newmar Luncheons. We were happy to see
many of our Klub friends there, and want to thank Ken
& Sharon Koch (18540) for their dedication and efforts
toward the Kountry Klub.
All said and done, there is still no place like home and
our RV’ing season is gearing up for another year. Both
of our Missouri Chapters, Mid-Mo Show Me and Ozark
Wanderlust have rally schedules in the “Calendar of
Events” and would welcome any and all who would like to
attend. Come visit and join in the fun!
April is here and our 2011 rally season is about to get
under way; Bill & MaryAnn McAfee (4527-L) are hosting
a Heartlanders Drive-In on April 24, in Lansing, Kansas,
and Steve & Blanche Smith (17991) are hosting Sunflower
Rally on May 19-21, in McPherson, Kansas. Details for
these events are listed in the “Calendar of Events” in this
Konnection.
We hope to see you at a rally this year.

Where did the year go? It is hard to believe it is 2011.Our
area was spared the most serious consequences of our
country’s economic problems and there are positive signs
of a national recovery, slow and painful though it may be.
Yes, we have much to be thankful for. So let us be ever
mindful at this special time of the year that material
goods can be swept away in an instant, life is fragile
and sometimes fleeting, friends and relatives should be
cherished each day and freedom requires sacrifice and
vigilance.
We are looking forward in working with the Bayou Kruisers
and their rallies. Thanks rally hosts for volunteering to
have a rally in 2011.
Our State Rally is April 6-10 at Paragon RV Resort in
Marksville, Louisiana. Please don’t forget to put your
passport number, whether or not you are playing golf and
also if you are doing crafts. It makes our job easier if we
know that information. Please send check and disclaimer
form to: Marlyn Walton, 13030 Bayou Terrace, St. Amant,

May you be surrounded by those you love and may your
days be filled with laughter.

We hope everyone has had a good winter; Florida has

Hello from the great state of Texas. We are having a
beautiful but dry early spring. We hope you all had a great
winter and holiday season.
We took a month long trip to Quartzsite, Arizona and had
a great time. We met up with 10 other Newmar couples
and spent our time riding through the dessert on our four
wheelers, potlucks and social times. Most of the couples
went on the Alaska caravan in 2008. It was very special
to see everyone again, and we look forward to going back
next winter.
We are busy planning our State Rally to be held April
28-May 1, at the Lake Conroe KOA campground. We
have our entertainers and caterers lined up already and
the Chamber of Commerce has been working with us to
determine the best attractions in the area.
The price for this year’s rally is $230.00 and we need the
registration and disclaimer as soon as possible in order to
APRIL 2011
complete the arrangements. Please send checks to Larry
& Katie Harrington, P.O. Box 74, LaGrange, Texas 78945.
The Kountry Lone Stars South lost two member of the
club last month; Wanda Nussbaum and Dean Kennedy.
Wanda & her husband, Jim, were the State Directors
previous to us, and Dean & Bettye Kennedy were the first
directors for the state of Texas. Please keep Bettye and
Jim in your prayers.
The rally season is getting under way during the month
of March here in Texas. It will be great to see everyone
again although, we will not make all the chapters the first
month. We will try and make a couple in March.
Travel Safe and Happy Motoring. See you soon,

Howdy from Arizona! How time does seem to fly when
you’re having fun! The winter has been great and now
we’re getting excited about our rallies beginning in April
with our luncheon in Columbia, Missouri at the Golden
Corral on the 16th at 10:45AM. May brings on graduations
and the getting ready to be treated to a great weekend
in Pin Oak RV Park with our favorite Chef, Brad Crask.
We hope this finds all our friends and members well and
getting ready to take in the rallies of 2011.

We both made it through
the winter this year with no
health problems. We are
looking forward to getting
back to our home base in
Wisconsin and see how
much the grandkids have
grown.
We would like to thank everybody who attended the Newmar
Owners luncheons in the Rio Grande Valley and participated in
the 50/25/25 drawings for the Konnection Magazine. Thanks to
Coachlight and Buddy Gregg for their donations of door prizes
for our luncheons. It was a nice surprise when Richard Parks
and John Sammut attended our last luncheon in March.
Please support the Kountry Klub by ordering the Konnection

We are looking forward to seeing you at the International Rally in

Hello Everyone! Spring is in the air and I assume many of you
are headed north from your winter roosts. We are seeing more
and more rigs headed north out of Florida as the days go by.
Happy travels…
Spring rally season is about to get underway in Illinois. The Illinois
Kountry Kampers will kick off the season with a rally May 19-22
called “Back to Yesteryear”. It will be a down home laid back
gathering amid the corn and soybean fields of Iroquois County
at the County Fairgrounds about 20 miles south of Kankakee.
Hosts, Wes & Sue Bode, will be on site starting May 17 and early
arrivals are welcome. Wes & Sue have planned some fun things
for us to do in the area and some relaxing time to reconnect with
each other. Watch for more information from the Bodes. They
may be contacted at 815-592-1497 or 815-592-5789.
Ed & Cookie Dierker have a rally planned for the Illinois Kountry
Kuzzins June 2-4 at Moraine View State Park near Leroy, Illinois.
We will have a pot luck, tour Funks Grove home and museum, tour
the Earth One ethanol plant, eat at Bayern Stube, an authentic
German restaurant, and enjoy each other’s company around the
campfire. Ed & Cookie may be contacted for reservations and
more information at 217-454-2243.
Don’t forget the International Rally in Essex Junction, Vermont
June 11- 18. See the Konnection or the web site for more
information.

Region 4 will have a rally July 14-17 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Ken
& Sharon Koch have a fun rally planned. Watch for details in the
Konnection.
Ev & I will host the Illinois State Rally August 10-14 at Comlara
Park just outside Bloomington. There will be early bird activities
and some surprises along the way. Watch for rally information
to be sent soon.
Remember any Newmar Kountry Klub member can attend these
rallies and we encourage you to do so. It is fun to make new
friends. So if you are nearby and want to join in contact the
hosts for more information.
We still have no one to take our place as Illinois State Directors
starting January 1, 2012. We are planning to work with the new
directors to make the transition a smooth one. If you want to
talk with us more about the position, please call us at 815-4379078 or 815-878-2804.
See you on down the road.

:: Iowa
We are loving our winter in Texas this year. We have had our
share of cold spells and an ice storm, but we’re still warmer then
Iowa. Seeing ice on our palm tree and covering everything else
around us was new for Port Aransas, Texas. We’re right on the
gulf, so it doesn’t usually get that cold here.
I want to apologize for some emails that may have come to you,
with our email address. A pharmacy company from Canada
found our password on our computer, and was sending emails
to all in our contact list. Needless to say, there were some
embarrassing emails. We were getting emails and phone calls
from a bunch of people saying they were not happy with us
sending that type of email to them. I’m hoping that the people
who know us well, would know we would never send this type
of email to anyone. We’ve changed our password, and so far
we are OK. So again I apologize.
We’re looking forward to the spring, when we start our rallies
again. We are going to have another busy spring-summer
schedule. See the “Calendar of Events” and check it out. We
won’t be going to International this year. If the price of diesel
fuel gets to $5, like they’re talking, we won’t be going anywhere
but our rallies in Iowa. It will be extremely costly just to get back
home, from Texas.
Have a safe trip home, to all the people who will be heading
back home from their winter homes. Stay well and stay happy.

Hello Everyone! Yep, Barb and I are still in Nebraska; this is an
ugly state in the winter. We really envy everyone who is in Texas,
Florida or Arizona, although we here you all have had a bit of
cold weather as well. I wish I could say I feel sorry for you, but
that ain’t going to happen.
One bit of information our Nebraska group scheduled a luncheon
on February 3rd at Casa Grande and had 26 people attend. Our

good time. I wish we could have been there.

CARAVAN INSTRUCTIONS
For starters, remember, caravans are a privilege not a right!!
A caravan is considered to be 4 or more units that want to
park together.
One person must be appointed to lead your caravan and that
person is responsible for collecting all funds and registration
forms from all members of their caravan and sending them
in one package to the Klub office. Once processed each
person in the caravan will receive their parking cards and
confirmation of registration from the Klub office.
Once your caravan has been accepted and entered into
the registration system, it is not possible to add additional
persons or to change names so make sure your caravan is
complete before you submit your package to the office.
All units in your caravan must arrive together to be parked
together!! When caravans arrive at the Expo Center they will
be pulled into a staging area where you can check to insure
all your units are in line and tow vehicles removed. If you
are travelling a short distance and it is possible to have all
“toads” removed before you reach the Expo Center it will
speed up your caravan parking. You will then be escorted to
your parking area.
Once in the parking area you will be instructed where to
go. Please follow the directions of the parking crew. If, for
instance, there is a 20 coach caravan. Ten of you may be
asked to go one way, the other ten another way. In the end
you will be parked “back to back” in two rows of ten coaches
instead of one line of 20, but, you will be together.
At this year’s International Rally Once again, the Arts and Craft Contest will be offered at the International Rally. There will
be twenty five categories. Paintings (wall hangings); Decorative Painting (any painting other than wall hanging); Quilts (hand
quilted); Quilts (machine quilted); Quilted wall hangings, table runners & trivets; Needle Art; Sewn Clothing; Embellished Clothing;
General Woodworking; Wood Carving (chipping and In the round); Wood Carving (Relief – in the flat); Wood Turning; Stuffed
Animals; Beading; Jewelry; Knitting; Dolls; Crocheting; Cross Stitch; Stained Glass; Fused Glass; Paper Crafts (includes cards and
scrapbooking); Photography (8 x 10 –B & W); Photography – 8 x 10 Color); Miscellaneous.
Rules for the contest this year.
1. The Arts and Craft Contest is open to all Newmar members.
2. Exhibitors are limited to one entry in each category listed.
3. If category isn’t listed, it will be put under miscellaneous. Only one miscellaneous entry will be accepted per person.
4. Winning articles entered in prior years will not be accepted.
5. All entries must be made by the exhibitor and entered by the member only – NO SECOND PARTY EXHIBITORS.
6. Every precaution will be taken to insure the safety of the articles entered. Committee members and Newmar will not be
responsible for the loss or damage of any article.
7. Protection must be used on exhibits that could be damaged by dust or finger prints. Must be done by exhibitor prior to entry.
8. Committee reserves the right to refuse damaged articles.
9. Garments (clothes) must be on a sturdy hanger.
10. Photographs must be 8 x 10, matted & framed. Judging will be on photograph only.

REGION 5 // AL, FL, GA, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA
Region Directors :: Bob & Bonnie Krieger (12508)
Winter go away…please.
There has been enough cold
and snow. We need flowers,
sunshine and Newmar rallies
to attend. Spring must be
just around the corner!!
The first event of our winter
was the Tampa RV Super
Show. We had so many
Newmar friends with us at
the Newmar gathering, about
114 rigs! Once again, Jonas
and his team of Newmar
Techs did their excellent work in record time. It is so wonderful
to have them attend the rally and take care of all of us. Thank
you!! So many others to thank for making this rally work.
Thanks to North Trails for sponsoring our tent and our goodie
bags. They had 49 units at the show...that is right....49 units!!
Thanks also to the Newmar executives that took the time to
come to our tent and take questions from the membership. (It
took a magic touch to get that PA system going...will say no
more.) Thanks to Pat Terveer for arriving early and staying late
to help in getting it all organized.
Our co-hosts were Jim & Wilma Weeks, Dwayne & Pat Kittle, and
Bob & Martha Ehlman. Their assistance was needed to insure
that we got the parking done, the NKK store up and running, got
the tent events going, and getting the goodie bags delivered....
but most of all they made sure we had the snacks and ice cream
social on time!! A big Thanks as well to our “retired” regional
directors, Ken & Marilyn Jenkins and Jim & Judy Ploesser for the
final clean up. It was wonderful seeing Vicky & Irv and thanks for
their assistance.
There are so many of us that winter in Florida that we now have
2 luncheons to meet and greet. Ron & Wanda Llewellyn are
having great turn outs in Fort Myers. Bill & Ruth Crane continue
to have large gatherings in Lakeland. We always find a way to
gather with our Newmar friends. It is a delight to talk to so many
good folks.
Needless to say it has been a great winter in our Region 5
state in Florida. But spring is here!! Time to return to our home
states and get involved. Take a look at the rally schedules to
see all the great things going on in our Region as well as others.
Pick a spot, pick a place to visit....there is Newmar family and
happiness nearby awaiting you!!
Announcements will be coming shortly about the Region 5 Rally.
Also, put a big mark in your date book for the International Rally
in Essex Junction, Vermont. Full details are on the web and in
this issue – register soon! We look forward to seeing many of
you there. Check the “Calendar of Events” and state news....
there are caravans taking off for Vermont that would love to have
you.
Have very Happy Trails!!
:: Florida
Hi All! Just a reminder to everyone about the monthly luncheon
Page 27
in Lakeland. It is the first Tuesday of the month; please check
the “Calendar of Events” for more information. There were 59
attendees in February. Come by and join us for a good time.
Martha & I are trying to attend two functions of each Florida
Chapters this year. As you all know the price of fuel has impacted
us all, but having good fellowship and fun is worth a few extra
bucks.
Come and join us at the Florida State Rally. We are preparing
for a great time, i.e. boat ride, music and good food. Also we
have optional trip for Herbie the Train, and a lunch/dinner cruise.
Please plan to attend; it will be April 13-17 at Wekiva Falls Resort,
just of I4 close to Sanford, Florida.

:: Georgia
Ah, glorious spring! My favorite time of the year....it only lasts
for about two weeks, though! Many of you already have your
motorhomes out of storage and are ready to hit the roads for the
summer! We’ve already started...we spent the month of March
in our Dutch Star parked near Orlando, Florida so Art could go
to the Braves Spring Training games!
The Georgia Peach State Krackers spring rally will be only a few
short days away by the time you get the Konnection. It’s gonna
be a great rally in Milledgeville, Georgia. We are looking forward
to seeing and visiting with all our Krackers friends and we’re also
really excited that Rob & Judy Steinau (Past Presidents of the
Krackers) will be in attendance. They have been in California for
the last couple of years and we’ve missed them terribly. They are
still loyal members of the chapter, even if it is by long distance!
And, if you’re traveling north after wintering in Florida, check to
see if you can still stop over and visit with us at the rally.
Jim Repp, Peach State Kracker President, has a wonderful trip
planned for the pre-rally leading up to the International in Essex
Junction, Vermont in June. Leaving Georgia in late May; there
will be stops in West Virginia and New Hampshire primarily for
the pre-rallies, with first-class train rides and lots of activities
planned! You know there will be lots of good food and fellowship,
so join us if you can! Contact Jim at 706-244-4068 and make
your plans! Jim always does a great job with the pre-rally and
I’m sure this one will be no exception!
I am saddened to report that we have lost some of our members
of the Peach State Krackers due to health and other reasons.
We will miss them, and hope they will consider joining us again,
should circumstances permit. We have also gained some new
members and we welcome them and look forward to meeting all
of them soon at a rally!
Plans for the Georgia State Fall Rally are in the works and we’ll
report those to you as soon as the details are completed. Check
the Konnection!!
Speaking of the Konnection, please remember to subscribe to
the Konnection, if you haven’t already. It’s only $15 per year for
six issues. Keep up with all the fun happenings in the Newmar
Kountry Klub!
Until next time, may God grant each of you His traveling
mercies...

APRIL 2011
:: Virginia
Hello everyone from sunny and warm Florida! So far this has
been a year that you expect to have as a “Snowbird” visiting
south Florida. Since arriving in late January we have had many
opportunities to renew Kountry Klub acquaintances and visit
with friends from throughout Region 5, the Virginia Wheels and
other Regions. We had a group of 14 from the Naples area attend
the February Newmar luncheon in Ft. Myers with about 40 Klub
members from other parts of the state and country. The food,
fellowship, and the question and answer session conducted by
North Trail technicians was great.
While everyone is busy enjoying all the activities available in
this area we have been able to hold planning secessions for
upcoming Virginia Wheels and Virginia State Rallies to tie up
loose ends and finalize arrangements. The Rally site for the
20th Anniversary Celebration of the formation of the Virginia
Wheels Chapter of NKK will be Country Waye RV Resort in
Luray, Virginia on October 17-19. See the “Calendar of Events”
and ads elsewhere in this issue for details of upcoming rallies
in Virginia, the State Rally in Virginia Beach, the August Rally in
Galax, and the Anniversary Rally in Luray. Sign up now and join
the FUN! Hope to see you at these events enjoying good food,
fellowship, and the planned activities.
Don’t forget to register for the International Rally in Vermont on
June 13-18. Sign up to be a volunteer; you will really enjoy being
involved with the activities. Again, hope to see you there!!
As always, we wish you safe travels and good health.

:: Florida Manatees
Ruth & I hope that all of our members are looking forward to a
fantastic spring and summer, attending chapter rallies, and of
course, the 26th International Rally in Essex Junction, Vermont,
starting June 13-18. This part of Vermont is a most beautiful
area, and Newmar has really gone all out to provide a great time
for all.
The February issue of the Konnection Magazine had all of the
information, and we hope that by now, many of you have already
signed up to attend. If you did, you may be one of the winners
Page 28
of the ‘Klub’s Rally Fee Refund Drawing” and get your money
back!
Our Manatee Chapter held a Rally at Wekiva Falls Campground,
in Sorrento, Florida in February, with 15 rigs in attendance.
This is the same area where the Florida State Rally will be held,
starting on April 13-17. State Directors, Bob & Martha Elhman,
have done a great job for their first rally, and hopefully, we will
have a large attendance to show our thanks to them.
Our March Manatee Rally was held at The Great Outdoors in
Titusville, Florida, however, this message had to be in to the
Klub office by March 1, soooo, we will just have to tell you about
it when we see you! You know however, that we ALWAYS have a
great time at our rallies.
Please check the 2011 “Calendar of Events” in the Konnection for
all information about our Chapter, and the Newmar Luncheons
held in Lakeland on the first Tuesday of the month in starting in
November, December, January, February and March.
We are looking forward to seeing all at the International in Essex
Junction, and hope that YOU will be there! We are looking
forward to a SUPER SUMMER in Maine, and trust that all will
enjoy this time, where ever your travels take you.
Take care, keep safe, and God Bless,

:: Florida Pelicans
How quickly the months are flying by! The first two months of
2011 are already history and by the time you read this, March
will also be history!
January found several of our flock gathered at Rally Park for the
annual January Rally led by Rich & Cathy Queen. This is always
a fun time combining the entertainment provided by Rally Park
and of course, our traditional lunch at the Columbian Restaurant
in Tampa.
Upon leaving Rally Park, a few Pelicans caravanned to the
Florida State Fairgrounds for the “Tampa Super Show” Rally.
It is always a great time, meeting up with other Kountry Klub
members, visiting with old friends and making new friends.
During February we were able to put together two day events.
Fred & Marlys Rump hosted a group of thirteen Pelicans and their
guests as they toured the newly re-opened Naples Botanical
Gardens, to see what financial resources can accomplish.
The gardens are new in comparison to other Florida botanical
wonderlands but it won’t be long before all the plantings will rival
any tropical park in the country. It was an amazing sight to see the
change from brush land and swamp near the gulf coast to hills
and a series of the most wonderful garden environments. Our
time was limited as we had a reserved luncheon prearranged,
but most of us will go back to wander among the variety of
plants brought in from all over the tropical world.
In their quest to find something different to do, George & Marge
Hawes entertained five Pelican couples and several guests at a
hockey game at Germain Arena between the Florida Everglades
and the Gwinnett Gladiators. The evening began with a
scrumptious dinner in a bar and grill overlooking the ice, then
moved to the bleacher seats. It was noisy and exciting and we
passed around the popcorn as we cheered on our team. Those
who knew the game explained Hockey 101 to the neophytes
and everyone left the stadium with smiles on their faces and
blue lips. For southern Florida, it was cold in there! Only the
APRIL 2011
Merciers were smart enough to bring a stadium blanket. By the
way, our Florida team won, 7 – 3.
and Vice President (with wives of course) stayed the evening
and closed the place down! What an experience!
March will bring the Strawberry Festival Rally at Rally Park,
hosted by Bob & Cheryl Black. This is a fun, laid back rally as
everyone enjoys their favorite entertainment at the festival along
with the fabulous strawberry shortcake! Bob & Cheryl have also
planned several group activities which we all look forward to.
ATTENTION FLORIDA SNOW BIRDS! Parked for the winter
and do not want to move your coach? All NKK members are
welcome to our chapter rallies. We may be having a rally near
you. Contact me for information on how to participate without
moving your coach.

:: Florida Sea Turtles
It is the middle of February as I write this article. The Sea Turtles
have been very active. In January, the Sea Turtles were the only
chapter to host a social and business meeting at the Tampa
Super Show. This provides those not familiar with chapter
activities to attend a social and business meeting. Kind of a try
before you buy. The January social and meeting were held at the
NKK Special Event and in the tent sponsored by North Trail RV.
Many thanks to North Trail for their continued sponsorship of
Klub activities. Our social and business meeting was attended
by the Florida State and Region 5 Directors. Thank you so much
for taking the time to attend. It may have been the cold weather,
(but also maybe the chapter officers have things well in hand)
that the business meeting took less than 10 minutes!
:: Peach State Krackers
Old man winter is finally behind us. This was definitely one for
the record books, at least in many parts of the country. Spring,
with all her glorious flowers and trees, is upon us. It’s time to
make travel plans for the summer and fall. Here’s an idea, join
hundreds of other Newmar owners at the 26th International Rally
in Essex Junction, Vermont, June 13-18. Many have experienced
the beautiful fall colors in Vermont, this year we will check out
the summer green, of the “Green Mountain State”. Several
chapter members will be departing on May 30 for a pre-rally
in New Hampshire, while others will be visiting Canada, before
going to the International. We look forward to seeing many of
our Newmar friends there.
We are looking forward to our Spring Rally being held April 1417 at Scenic Mountain RV Park in Milledgeville, Georgia. Many
years ago, this was the location of the State Capital. We will have
special guests this year, Rob & Judy Steinau from California.
Our host couples, Richardson’s, Harding’s, and Bray’s promise
a wonderful rally. Why not plan on joining us?
While we were unable to attend, reports are that the Tampa
Super Show was a huge success. No surprise, the hosts were
our own Regional Directors, Bob & Bonnie Krieger. They are
great leaders and always do a super job.
As for our neighbors to the West, The Alabama Dixie Aires, we
regret to hear your chapter has gone inactive. We would like to
extend a hand to all members; you are welcome to attend any or
all of our rallies and luncheons. Look in the Konnection for dates
and/or contact me.
In February, the chapter rally was at Crystal Isles RV Resort in
Crystal River, Florida. The first day of entertainment was at the
Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. This included a boat
ride to the park, Ranger talk about the Manatees that live at the
park and a Ranger talk about the resident hippopotamus (who
actually did a few hippo moves for the audience). Our chapter
photographer, Shirley Bennett, waited very patiently and was
rewarded with one of the wild bald eagles striking a pose in front
of the American Flag. I’ll bet this does not happen every day.
The evening meal was a Charlie’s. This is a well-known local
seafood restaurant. The second day of entertainment was at the
Olde Mill House Gallery & Printing Museum. This is a hands on
interactive tour of a working print shop using equipment from
the 1800’s to the present day. Our guide was asked if, for our
hands on activity, we could print some samples of US Currency
(hanging on the wall). However, the details of that printing job
were not available to tour attendees. The evening meal was
at Neon Leon’s restaurant. For those of you my age, Leon
Wilkerson was the base guitarist for The Lynyrd Skynyrd band.
A local band played oldies music as we had dinner! Leadership
is about setting an example, right. Well, the chapter President

:: Tarheels
Happy spring from the North Carolina Tarheel Kountry Klub
Chapter! No matter where you are located now, it must be spring
and Mother Nature is certainly ahead of most of our members.
As this article is being written it’s only the end of February but the
robins are in the yard and the crocus and hyacinth are coming
up. What’s missing, however, is most of our membership. It
seems that people are still in their winter locations looking for
that elusive warm weather. It won’t be too long and they will all
be headed back home and thoughts should soon turn to “where
are we camping next?” As always, we are looking for a fresh
set of new ideas. Most of us have just finished visiting those
large RV shows like the Tampa RV Show and the North Carolina
RV Expo and are looking forward to a smaller, more warm and
friendly atmosphere. We are gathering ideas for locations for
our chapter rallies for this year and if anyone has suggestions,
please pass them along to any of the chapter officers.
We have added a few new members to our group and I would
like to take this opportunity to say WELCOME to the Britt
family, the Jones family and the Nantz family. It appears that
our membership has stayed fairly level this year and the chapter
officers are happy that you’ve decided to stick it out with us for
another year. However, there is always room for more, so be
sure to scour your neighborhood and your local campgrounds
for those elusive “new friends” and invite them to join us.
Don’t forget about the upcoming International Rally in Essex
Junction, Vermont in June. Make sure your plans have been
finalized and if you were planning on traveling with the Roger &
Peggy Weeks caravan, be sure to check in with Roger for any last
minute availability. Vermont in June sounds like a great time!
Travel safely back to your home destinations and enjoy what’s
ahead of you through your windshields. See you soon.

:: Virginia Wheels
While we were late arriving in Florida, we have made up for lost
time by spending time with other Virginia Wheels members in the
Sunshine State (true to its name, we have had lots of sunshine
this winter)! We spent a delightful afternoon with Danny &
Jeanette Templeton in Wauchula, Florida and even had some
time to start to plan the 20th Anniversary Rally that will be held
in October. Bob & Bonnie Krieger came to spend the afternoon
with Tommy & Maggie Manning and Jim & I at Sun ‘N Fun in
Sarasota.
The Virginia State Rally will be held at Holiday Travel Park in
Virginia Beach, Virginia May 23-26. Rally hosts are John & Betty
Warhol who have planned a rally that sounds like a fun filled 3
days. Pat & Dwayne Kittle and Cathy & Bob Marks are planning
a rally at the Deer Creek RV Resort in Galax, Virginia for August
16-19. October 17-20 will find many (we hope) Virginia Wheels
members attending our 20th Anniversary Rally at Country Waye
RV Park in Luray, Virginia.
Please continue to check the “Calendar of Events” in the
Konnection for contact information about these rallies. Hope
that you will attend if you are in the area at the time of any of
our rallies.

As you walk down the
fairway of life you must
smell the roses, for you
only get to play one round.
Ben Hogan
Famous golfer Ben Hogan
undoubtedly had many
opportunities to reflect
on why he was there and
what he was doing as he
walked down the many fairways of his career. He’s correct
that we only have ‘one round to play.’ However, every
day is another opportunity to try a new experience – get
another round in. If you’ve never made it to an International
Rally, perhaps this is the year you should go. Yes, fuel
prices are higher, but an opportunity to visit beautiful
Vermont doesn’t come every year. You can’t take it with
you, so please come and enjoy this special event with
your Newmar family. International Directors, Jim & Wilma
Weeks, have put together an enchanting rally. Check
out the tours listed in the Konnection or on the website.
Register on or before April 15, 2011, and your Klub
number will be entered into the “Klub’s Rally Fee Refund
Drawing.” More information is in the Konnection or online
at www.newmarkountryklub.com.
The weather in southeast Florida has finally returned to our
expectations – warm and breezy! We hope that wherever
you are, spring has brought you some more enjoyable
weather than most have had this winter.
Bridge, the National Road/Zane Grey Museum, renowned
sculptor Alan Cottrill in his studio/gallery, visit the Putnam
Underground Railroad, the John and Annie Glenn Historic
Site, Harper Cabin or the National Ceramic Museum and
Heritage Center. Not too far away at Dresden you can
visit the Longaberger Homestead or Dresden Junction
Toy Train Museum. And of course, there will be plenty
of food, fun and maybe even some fantasy. Reservation
forms will be in the next issue of the Konnection.
Most of our chapters have rallies planned for May. Be sure

Here we are back in the frigid north after 11 days on the
“Island Princess” with 52 of our ‘closest’ Newmar friends
on the Panama Canal cruise. We had a great time with
plenty of sun and tons of ‘rich’ food.
Our Indiana rally season will kick off on May 20-22 at
Hidden Paradise Campground in St. Paul, Indiana. It is at
exit 123 on I-74. The camping fee is $28/night, and a $10/
rig rally fee. The O’Brien’s will show us a good time. We
are working on the State Rally toward the end of August,
with more details to follow. The Region 6 Rally will be in
Zanesville, Ohio on September 14-18. So get those rigs out and get them washed and waxed
and ready to go. You can reach us at [email protected],
or 260-416-2505.

Our first southeast Florida Newmar Owners luncheon in Ft.
Myers was well attended with 55 Newmar owners present.
Included were two couples who were new Newmar
owners. Thank you to North Trail RV for sending Derrick,
Steve and Terri to answer safety issues and alerted us that
most RV fires are from refrigerators. Please make sure
you have checked the recalls and had your refrigerator
upgraded. In addition, Dorothea Adams of Sky-Med gave
a brief presentation and had a drawing for a free meal
at Golden Corral. Our February luncheon brought 54
Newmar owners together. Again we had two couples new
to Newmar. North Trail RV again sent Rob Sanders and
Scott Graham to answer questions.

Hello everyone from Buckeye Country!! We know all of
the snowbirds can’t wait to get back to here. HA! If you
come home now, we’ll guarantee no more snow and the
temperature will not go below 65 degrees. April Fools!
Okay, let’s get our rigs cleaned up, tuned up, greased up,
and get a loan to fill up our fuel tanks.
Our September 14-18 Region 6 Rally at the Muskingum
County Fairgrounds in Zanesville, Ohio is beginning to
take shape. Our main tour will be to The Wilds for an openair safari. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll move to

Now don’t forget about the 2011 International Rally in
Essex Junction, Vermont, June 13-18 (early arrival 11 & 12).
We’re hoping each of you will help us out by volunteering
a little bit of your time during the rally. If everyone helps,
then everyone has time to enjoy all that the rally has to

We have our first Ohio campouts coming up next month.

offer. Ohio is in charge of Parts and Supplies. You get
to be at the entrance, greet them (nicely), and then tell
them where to go (nicely). If you haven’t registered yet the
form is in this issue of the Konnection or online at www.
newmarkountryklub.com.
We have a pre-rally campground lined up that is very close
to the fairgrounds. You can call us 937-866-1752 to see if
there are still sites left if you would like to camp one or two
nights before so you can go in with totally empty tanks.
We will do our best to have a night as we have done in the
past where you bring your own hamburger (or whatever)
and grill them on the grills that some members will bring
along plus bring a covered dish, tableware, and drinks.
We usually have a good time and this is for anyone from
Ohio not just Buckeye & Cardinal members.
We hope everyone has a very Happy Easter. Looking
forward to seeing all of you soon.

The Michigan Aires Christmas luncheon was held
Wednesday, December 1 at the Old Country Buffet in
Grand Rapids. There were 24 members in attendance.
Everyone enjoyed the extensive buffet and the ala mode
desserts.
Copies of the 2011 rally schedules were distributed. We
are looking forward to warmer weather and welcoming
back our snowbird members from the southern climes.

Panama Canal Cruise
February 18 – 28, 2011
Wow, what an awesome cruise! Barney & Barbara
Barnett (Past International Directors) along with Vicky
& Irv Kaufman informally hosted the cruise. We set sail
from Fort Lauderdale, FL along with 54 Newmar Klub
Members and friends aboard the “Island Princess” of
Princess Cruise Lines.
Our first stop was the island of Aruba. As usual our
group scattered to the “four winds” on different Shore
Excursions and shopping trips. The water was particularly
pretty there. Next was the ancient and historical city of
Cartagena, Colombia. So much history, the Fortress,
the walled city and old town with its beautiful flowers
and iron work on most houses (for a reason). Talk
about “street vendors”!! It was still a very pleasant and
memorable visit, more time could easily be spent there.
Page 38
Next it was on to the Panama Canal and the City of
Colon. There were several interesting tours here and
again, I think we had a good representation on all of
them. For those of you who have been there before
the Canal Zone itself, has not changed much. The
other facilities turned over to them have suffered,
unfortunately. We sailed through the first set of locks
on the eastern side and into Lake Gatun, where all the
water to raise and lower the ships come from. Those
who had tours boarded tenders in the Lake and were
taken ashore to transportation. Barbara & I took a bus
to the Pacific side and returned on board a train to Colon
or the east side where the ship had docked. Panama
is also home to one of the largest produce houses in
the world, shipping to all of South America as well as
most of the rest of the world, after a bit of shopping, it
was off again to Limon, Costa Rica. Many interesting
tours here, however there is only time to do about one.
Costa Rica is an agricultural haven, from fruits to plants
to cattle. The list goes on and on. We learned about the
marketing of mangos, pineapples (Dole moved there
from Hawaii), papayas and of course bananas. If you
ever visit, you will never look at a banana the same way
again! The flowers and beautiful butterflies were a sight
also. One could spend several days here.
Just as we were
getting tired from all
the tours, we had
a “sea” day on our
way to Ocho Rios,
Jamaica so everyone
could recharge their
batteries.
Many
again took tours
some just shopped
nearby the ship. I
was feeling pretty
good, we were nearly to the end of the cruise and my
credit card was still intact, then, Barbara found “the
ring”. Oh well, she deserves it and it really wasn’t THAT
bad. From there it was back to Ft Lauderdale and reality.
I don’t think anyone suffered from weight loss on the
trip!
We had two formal nights on the cruise and I must say
our group “cleans up” pretty good. We would like to
thank Edgerton Travel for putting together such a great
cruise and Sherrill Lee our on board hostess from
Edgerton.
We hope everyone who went enjoyed themselves and
we hope to see all of you “down the road”. If you didn’t
go, all we can say is, you missed a great one.

As we sit here writing, our yard is still encased by what
seems to be a slow moving glacier. Those of you fortunate
enough to be in a warm, sunny climate can only shake
your head and consider your good fortune.
Circumstance has entered our lives with Debbie now
amongst the gainfully unemployed. Hopefully this will be
a minor bump in the road. Who knows, one book closes
and another opens. It might mean a considerable change
in our RV activity but we will try not to let it put a complete
end to RVing for us. At least with the onset of March we
can start to think about getting the motor home uncovered
and made ready for use.
One event we will not be deterred from is our State/
Chapter Rally May 12-15. This year it will be a dry camp
rally in the northwest hills of Connecticut. As we have
stated in our previous column, these RV’s are very well
self-contained so why not make use of that ability. For a
short weekend it should be no trouble at all. If you are in
the area, please join us. Just check the details in the rally
calendar. A reminder to all, no early arrivals before 2PM
on Thursday, May 12 and arrive with full fresh water and
empty black/grey tanks.
Though we may not attend as many, we will see some of
you around the campfire somewhere.

The program “One Nation Under God” under the direction
of Woody & Jean Miller will be put on at the International

program please call Woody Miller at (814) 822-0657.
Woody is a Pennsylvania Newmar member.
The spring rallies are now scheduled with a lot of exciting
information about what you will be doing. Please contact
your rally hosts and make your reservations. The Keystone
Kountry Kampers are having a combined rally with The
New Jersey Garden Aires in Bethel, Pennsylvania and
the Allegheny Kountry Kampers are having their rally

SIDE TRIPS BEFORE AND AFTER VERMONT
If you are planning to spend time in the Northeast prior to the International Rally in Vermont, or, if you anticipate spending time there
after the rally, here are some things you might enjoy doing while you are in the area.
There are numerous places in Vermont to visit and enjoy including sites of historical significance and traditional crafts from the region.
Some websites that may help you plan your excursions include: www.vermontvacation.com and www.vermontmeetings.org.
Mount Washington, in New Hampshire, is the highest peak (6288 ft) in the Northeast. It is also the place where the strongest winds
ever were recorded. You can drive your own vehicle (NOT an RV) to the top via the auto road, take a guided van tour to the top, or for
the more adventurous, travel to the peak in the historic Cog Railway. This was the world’s first mountain-climbing cog railway and is
still fired by coal. At the top you will find a visitor’s center as well as a view that spans 4 states, and Quebec – providing the weather
cooperates. Be advised, the temperature on top of Mount Washington can be extreme, and will be much colder than at the bottom.
Be prepared and dress warmly. There is also a restaurant, gift shop and museum.
Another day trip across New Hampshire is along State Route 112, the Kancamagus Highway from Bath through Kinsman and Lincoln
to Conway. This is a beautiful drive with many scenic pull-offs where you can stop and take pictures, hike to waterfalls, etc. Along the
way there are gondola rides, chair lifts, tramways, scenic train rides and more. Again, this is not an appropriate route for RV’s.

there you will be directed by our parking crew. Again this
year we are fortunate enough to have a fairly good staging
area. You will be directed where to go and when to remove
your toad or dollies before you enter the parking area.
Most of you will be able to park your tow vehicle or toad
near your unit, if not, you will be directed to a designated
area which will not be far from your unit. We will be using
several different parking areas again this year within the
fairgrounds.
dISPlAY YOUR NUMBERS!! It is extremely important
that you have your Klub Number displayed on the front
of your unit or in the windshield. We need your full
cooperation with this so you do not disrupt our parking
process. PLEASE!!
We will not have full hook-ups, make sure you arrive with
your GRAY AND BLACK WATER TANKS EMPTY!! You
will have one (1) FREE pump-out during the Rally on
the day YOUR PARKING AREA IS SCHEDULED. NO
EXCEPTIONS!! If you want to be pumped out on any day
other than the one you were scheduled you will have to
pay $23.00. Those who require more than one pump-out
will also have to pay $23.00 for each additional pump.
Tickets will be available at the Information desk.
Page 42
City water is available to all coaches. It would be a good
idea to have your FRESH WATER TANK FULL when
you arrive. Some water hookups are shared and NOT
designated for one unit. Remember to bring an extra
water hose and “Y” so you can take water on as needed.
Also don’t forget to bring a 30AMP extension cord.
Please make sure you arrive during your designated
parking time and have all your rally paperwork ready
for the Greeters. Remember if you wish to park with a
friend, you MUST have the same parking time and arrive
together. All caravans (4 or more units) must be registered
with the Klub Office as a caravan and arrive together at
your designated time.
IMPORTANT: We not only use your Klub Number for
parking, but also to help identify your location in case of
EMERGENCIES during the rally. Please be aware and
display your numbers.

PARKING TEAMS: If you wish to volunteer to be on the parking
crew, please contact Mike or Carol Lowery and let them know.
They are currently forming the crews. Make sure you have been
confirmed to be on the parking team before you send in your
application to the Klub office. Remember that both you and your
spouse are required to be available to work Saturday, Sunday
and Monday as needed.

APRIL 2011
REGION 9 // AB, BC, MB, NT, SK, YT
Region Directors :: Dave & Joanne Killey (16152-L)
Look out Canada the baby
boomers are coming! A
tsunami has nothing on
this silver wave. This year,
the leading edge of the
baby boomers as defined
“those men and women
born
between
1946
and 1965”. That means
roughly one third of our
Canadian population will
reach the ripe old age of 65 this year. Where the heck did
the years go?
Here’s the thing: this demographic cohort is neither ripe
nor old. Its energetic and influential members are socially,
physically and politically active. They don’t like being
pigeonholed or told what to do. Some folks consider 65 to
be the new 40, albeit with less Eminem rap music and more
M&M frozen food. There are many exceptionally bright
individuals who find themselves on the shady side of 65.
They don’t notice their age, and I’m sure their colleagues,
subordinates and competitors don’t notice either. What
matters are their business skills and contributions to
family and community. Age is irrelevant.
We had the pleasant experience to be able to join the
NKK on a recent Panama Canal cruise. The 10 day cruise
was hosted by NKK with about 50 people from all parts
of USA and Canada. Some folks were able to renew
old friendships while other made new friends, all with
a common interest – Newmar RV’s. A reception hosted
by Sherrill Lee of Edgerton’s Travel was a very pleasant
event. Those bags of sweets along with the “thought of
the day” found hanging on our doors each evening was
grand. Thanks to Edgerton’s, Sherrill and David for making
this cruise such a huge success.
Thought for the Day – When you think you have no more to
give, when a friend cries out to you---you find the strength
to help.
There are a few dates recently posted to the NKK web
site for rallies in Region 9. Please take a look so you can
mark your social calendars with these events. The Region
9 rally will be held in British Columbia, September 16-18,
at the Eagle Wind RV Park in Aldergrove. It was scheduled
to go to Alberta or Saskatchewan this year, but travel
commitments make it impossible. Hopefully next year will
be a better fitting.

Jim Hagedon (12632) is the NKK International Member
at Large. He has brought to our attention a chat group
on IRV2 (see February’s issue of Konnection). This is a
web site dedicated exclusively to RV’ing and the best
thing about it, besides the great information, is that
you can get it for FREE. Yes, no charge, gratis, on the
house, complimentary. We have been using this site for
information for a few years now and we do love it. Check
it out at http://www.irv2.com/forums/f119/.

We have been asked by several members for information
they could give to a potential Dogwood Chapter member
over and above the Newmar brochure? Therefore the
following information was developed to be used by more
than one Chapter.
...........................................................................................
Congratulations from the Newmar Kountry Klub Dogwood
Chapter(s) on the purchase of your new RV.
With the purchase of your Newmar RV it also gives you the
opportunity to meet many fellows RV’ers with the same
goal(s) one of which is to enjoy the lifestyle your RV offers.
We would like to introduce ourselves, (
)
We are the current owners of a (
)
unit . Within the province of British Columbia we have 2
chapters, The BC Dogwood Mainland Klub for those who
live in the mainland area and the BC Dogwood Interior
Klub for those residing in the interior. This does not restrict
anyone from joining the Chapter of their choice.
Each chapter hosts an annual rally, some chapters hold
spring & fall rallies or luncheons where we gather to meet
new members or renew friendships with members we have
met at previous chapter functions. The rallies are held in
different locations each year, as we all enjoy visiting new
APRIL 2011
areas of our province. There is also an International Rally
every year hosted by Newmar and we have been known
to attend these rallies as individuals or sometimes we join
a rolling rally to the International, often held in Vermont,
Wyo. & Indiana.
The sole and only purpose of the chapters is to meet for
“fun & fellowship” whereby we get to exchange ideas and
share experiences as we travel down life’s highways. So
many of our members have been rving for years and have
such a wealth of information to draw upon whether it is
about their RV or travel experiences, they are happy to
share their knowledge.
It takes courage to attend that first rally but please let us
assure you; participate in as much or as little as you feel
comfortable doing, nothing is mandatory. You can also
invite your friends (you do not have to own a Newmar
product) to attend one of our rallies, with the exception of
the international.
We have attached a copy of a rally article which gives you
some insight as to what you can expect of course this
will change rally to rally. (contact writer for attachment)
To access the Newmar Kountry Klub website for current
information go to www.newmarkountryklub.com click on

We would gladly answer any questions you may have
about our chapters.

...........................................................................................
It has been such a fun opportunity to organize 4 rallies
for our RV Klub. We would like to share with you the
commitment shown by the park owners, the talent we
have been able to secure and a venue of fun games we
have tried.
As a rally host and RV owner we like to book our rallies
in different locations to take in all the sights our province
has to offer. Our first rally took us to Robert’s Roost RV
Resort located on beautiful Dragon Lake in Quesnel,
British Columbia. In this community we had the privilege
to listen to the musical talent of a Band called Stan Phillips
& Friends, followed by the musical talent of two young
fiddlers Denny & Adam Johnson. We usually pick a theme
to work around and this one was a Luau and included a
pig roast. It is also a little rare to find a restaurant where
the chef comes to the site and the “Side Door” well they
did.
Our next rally took us to Grand Forks, again we found
the Rivera RV Park owners to be highly accommodating
and participative. We had the good fortune to learn that
the owner is quite a chef himself so they catered most of
the meals (along with good jokes and exceptional good
Page 44
humor). Once again we had the privilege to listen to the
musical talent of the entire family which not only included
the parents, the daughters, Amanda & Brook, but also the
grandparents. It was an evening we will never forget. At
this rally we hired a guide who took us up to the Big Rock
Candy Mountain; most of us went home with many pieces
of crystal. As we had children join this rally we made it into
an Olympic event of fun sports for all.
Our third rally took us to Clearwater and the Dutch
Lake Resort another beautiful location on a lake with a
shoreline filled with water lilies. The owner and staff again
were so supportive. This area of the province definitely
has bragging rights to many picturesque waterfalls. As
many members in our chapter like to golf, we also took
the advantage to dine out at the Lacarya Club house. Our
next meal was a luncheon at the Trophy Buffalo Ranch.
We usually have one potluck at every rally, this one we
turned into a culinary themed cooking contest, for each
course we had a panel of judges do the tasting and each
lady went home with a great prize .We planned some fun
games as we sat around the campfire at night, one of
the games “how well do you know your mate”? We also
honored the ladies with an Avon gift game.
The fourth rally took place at the KOA in Sicamous. The
evening entertainment included a skit by Carol Penno
called Carol’s Comedy Hour, followed by “Whose Line Is
It”. Another great meal was enjoyed at the Burner, this
owner-chef walked the extra mile for all of us. This rally
was worked around the Pa & Ma Kettle Hat contest; it was
utterly amazing to hear some of the stories behind the
hats. We also honored the ladies with unusual earrings and
read out their reactions when their husbands presented
the gift. Too funny! Guess we now need to honor the
fellows in one of our rallies.
Back to the drawing board as another rally is on the
horizon. See you there?
Birthday best wishes are going out to Dave Killey and
Gordon Herle. Happy Anniversary to Dave & Gwen Harris
and Ev & Rose Larson.

APRIL 2011
international member at large
>> Jim Hagedon (12632)
OK, think April. That’s tough,
when I’m sitting here in
February, looking out the
window and watching snow
melt off the cactus!
But I’ll give it my best shot.
I’ve been spending a fair
amount of time working on
the rig and the first trip of the
season will be (was) the Sun
Catchers’ Spring Training Rally in Phoenix in early March.
Both Sue & I are getting antsy. We’ll be heading east by
the end of April with a stop in Nappanee, and then on to
Essex Junction.
If you’ve been a regular reader of my ramblings these
past couple of years (bless your heart!), you’ve probably
noticed that I’ve been spending more time expounding
on the benefits of communicating electronically. Some of
our members are not comfortable with this approach, but
more and more NKK’ers I talk with are anxious for the Klub
to move more quickly into the electronic communications
age.
It seems this is pretty much a generational issue. Having
just celebrated my 70th birthday, I can see both points of
view. But I believe communication is the very backbone
of the Klub. I’m of the opinion our future success – in fact,
the Klub’s very existence - will depend to a great extent
on how well we communicate. And I think we have a lot of
work to do in this area.
I think our biggest immediate challenge is to get timely
information to our members faster and on a more regular
basis. The Konnection magazine has served the Klub
well over the years, but there are situations where the
information you read in the Konnection is up to three
months old! Information on the Klub website can be nearly
immediate, but the website is not used as much as it could
be.
would bring more members to newmarkountryklub.com.
In terms of getting out Klub info on a more timely basis,
I’m in favor of the Klub sending out a monthly email to
all members with current info on what’s happening in the
Klub. I hear from far too many members who tell me just
about the only thing they receive from the Klub is a dues
notice! I know that putting a system in place to send out
monthly messages is high on our International Directors’
priority list. They are working with Newmar’s Information
Technology Department to make this happen, but, as we
all realize, Newmar’s IT folks have to give top priority to
keeping the business running and there just isn’t a lot of
available time to work on Klub projects.
I think we also need to re-visit the matter of a membership
directory. We are, after all, a social group, and we like to
stay in touch with each other. Printing and mailing costs
are an issue, but privacy concerns present the biggest
challenge to putting out any sort of reasonably useful
directory. It can be done on-line and many organizations
put their directories in a password-protected area of
their websites. But there is a cost involved in doing this.
Anything we propose will have to be consistent with
Newmar Corporation policy and our ability to pay for
the necessary changes to our system. I know, however,
there is a lot of interest in having this information made
available and I will continue to work on finding a way to
make this happen. If we can publish an on-line directory,
I believe this will also help us attract more Klub members
to the website.
I want to make it very clear that I’m not pointing the finger
at any person or group here. Some of the comments I’ve
gotten seem more directed at placing blame than finding
ways to solve problems. Every single person I know in
the Klub leadership wants the Klub to survive and grow.
And in many ways, the Klub’s challenges are not unique.
We are continuing to face both a difficult economy, and a
generational change in our members’ lifestyles. Other RV
Clubs are facing similar issues. But I believe we have to
move rapidly to improve our communications processes
and, as your Member-at-Large, this will continue to be the
main focus of my efforts in the coming months.
Now, on to Essex Junction. I hope to see you there!
I’ve talked about IRV2, the website for RV’ers that has a
forum for Klub members. The NKK forum is pretty active,
yet many Klub members often ask questions on IRV2 that
could be answered by going to www.newmarkountryklub.
com. We need to better understand why that is happening,
and what, if anything, we can do to get more people to
our website. I’ve heard from several of you on this issue
but I’d really like to get more input about what you think

GRAND CIRCLE CARAVAN
The 2011 Grand Circle Caravan scheduled for September 24 to October 12 will be a wonderful RV trip through some of the
most beautiful National and tribal parks of the Southwest. We will spend from two to four nights at six different locations in Utah,
Colorado and Arizona. There are planned activities, social get-togethers and dinners, tours and free time for you to explore these
extraordinary sights of the Southwest. Some of the planned activities include a boat ride to Rainbow Bridge on Lake Powell, a
narrow-gauge steam train ride from Durango, CO to Silverton, a guided bus tour of Mesa Verde NP, an evening boat ride on the
Colorado River and four-wheel jeep rides (two in Monument Valley in UT and one to Antelope Canyon in AZ).
There will be plenty of opportunity for you to drive and hike on your own or with fellow travelers through the beautiful National
Parks of Canyonlands, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Zion and Capitol Reef. We can guarantee that this will be an unforgettable vacation
trip.
We hope you will come and enjoy the fellowship of your Newmar Kountry Klub friends (yes, by the end of the trip we will ALL be
good friends) as we experience the beauty of the Southwest.
If you have any questions about the caravan, please feel free to contact the Newmar Kountry Klub office or call or e-mail us
(505-860-6661 or [email protected]). We’ll be glad to give you additional information or to answer any questions or concerns
you might have.

2010 DIESEL EPA REGULATIONS,
THE SCR AND DEF SOLUTION
FREIGHTLINER CUSTOM CHASSIS CORPORATION
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Technology
Best Meets the Needs of Customers
Tony Sippel, RV Product Manager,
Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation
How best to meet the stringent Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) requirements designed to reduce emissions has
been a hot topic among RV owners, dealers, manufacturers and
industry associations.
The EPA announcement required that Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEMs) develop new technology and implement
it by Jan. 1, 2010, to significantly reduce harmful emissions and
help mitigate the release of noxious gases into the atmosphere.
economy with SCR versus EPA 2007 engines. That amounts
to a significant savings for the RV owner, even taking into
consideration the cost of DEF.
SCR-equipped engines also contribute to better power and
engine performance, making the driving experience more
enjoyable.
These facts show why FCCC has chosen SCR technology
for its future emissions requirements. Whether it’s through
utilizing proven SCR technology or through its commitment to
developing innovative new products to meet customers’ needs,
FCCC strives to make the RV experience more enjoyable. After
all, that’s why FCCC is “driven by you.”
For more information about SCR technology and answers to
frequently asked questions, please visit www.freightlinerchassis.

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation, a premium chassis
manufacturer for the motorhome market, determined it would
use Selective Catalytic Reduction technology to meet the
emission standards because of its benefits to the motorhome
owner, as well as the environment.
But what is SCR? SCR is simple, clean and reliable. The
technology simply involves adding Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)
into the exhaust gas. The DEF is then filtered through a catalyst
to convert nitrous oxide (NOx) into nitrogen and water, which is
then safely released into the atmosphere.
The SCR system requires only the addition of the DEF tank and
the SCR catalyst. In contrast to Advanced EGR, a proposed
alternative to SCR that just one motorhome manufacturer will
utilize, SCR will not require a larger engine, a larger radiator
and, in some cases, an additional turbo just to achieve a similar
engine horsepower and torque rating of pre EPA 2010 emission
engines.
Furthermore, DEF is as simple to refill as windshield wiper fluid
and is readily available at thousands of travel centers and auto
parts supply stores nationwide. It’s also two-thirds water and is
safer than most other fluids used in a car, truck or motorhome,
including oil, antifreeze, fuel and brake fluid.
DEF is similar to the cost of a gallon of diesel fuel. And one,10gallon tank full of DEF will allow you to travel from New York City
to Los Angeles without refilling.
While SCR is relatively new to North America, European
manufacturers have utilized SCR technology since 2006. In that
time, more than 600,000 SCR-equipped commercial vehicles
have traveled for hundreds of millions of miles throughout Europe
without incident, testifying to the effectiveness of the technology.
Additionally, more than 30 million test miles were run by FCCC
and Daimler Trucks North America (FCCC’s parent company) in
North America before SCR was released to the market.
It’s clear that this technology has proven itself, but that is not the
only reason FCCC decided upon SCR. Through testing, FCCC
found that customers can expect up to 6 percent better fuel

For the first time in at least three years the January “Gathering
in Quartzsite” was blessed with good weather!! As a result the
desert was packed with RVs, I heard one estimate of 300,000
rigs? At the Klub Gathering we had 26 rigs on the day the Big
Tent opened. With the great weather we felt this was the best
rally in Quartzsite since the large Newmar Kountry Klub rallies
in the past.
The highlights of this “Gathering” included a great group dinner
at the “Grub Stake” in Quartzsite, a nightly campfire (thank
you Spike) and socials, and of course S’mores, courtesy of
Sue Conway.
For those not familiar with Arizona, the desert is a beautiful
place in the winter, camping on BLM land is free outside the
organized parks; the sunsets and sunrises are spectacular
and sightseeing around Quartzsite is worth the trip.
This year we had attendees from as far away as Maine, Canada
was well represented, as was the Northwest, people showed
up from all over the country. I think the extremely cold winter
around the country brought a lot of people to our beautiful
state.
When the Big Tent opened most of us raced to see the acres
of RV stuff and anything else you could dream of, located in
a huge tent and covering several acres all around Quartzsite,
since no one returned empty handed, I must assume it was a
good show.

we MAY have to increase the overall cost of the Caravan at a future date.
