SPRING 2016
Welcome Center
The Village of Greendale is pleased to announce the opening
of the Historic Greendale Welcome Center. We are located at
5680 Broad Street, right in the heart of downtown Greendale,
Wisconsin. In an effort to serve more visitors in Greendale, the
welcome center will be open seven days a week from 10:00am8:00pm. The Greendale Visitor Center is moving to a smaller
space as the Our Wisconsin Magazine Headquarters.
The Historic Greendale Welcome Center will provide education
on the history of this Greenbelt community, promote all local
businesses, and keep everyone up to date on all upcoming
events. The goal is to showcase our quaint, historic garden
community to visitors as an ideal destination to visit in Wisconsin. The Historical Society will move out of the basement at the
Community Learning Center and move into the rear of the Welcome Center, making room for additional classroom space for
Park and Recreation at the Community Learning Center.
Take a walk through history as you move through the welcome
center. Eye-catching wall displays will educate visitors on the
early creation of Greendale, the progression through the years,
and Greendale Today. There is a seating area and television
that will feature the area's attractions, natural beauty, and history for your pleasure.
If you are a local business and want any brochures or flyers
displayed in at the welcome center, please bring them by for
Tourism Coordinator, Caitlyn White.
2016 Elections
Below is a list of the remaining election days in 2016. If you
have any questions on locating your polling place, voting by
absentee ballot or registering to vote contact the Village Hall
423-2100, or visit the Village’s website!
April 5—Spring Election
August 9—Partisan Primary
November 8—General Election
What to Expect at the Polling Place
Now that people are bringing their IDs to the ballot, voting at
your polling place will be a little different. Just remember to be
patient; not everyone will be as prepared for these changes as
you are.
State It
As always, you’ll need to state your full name and address for
the election official who checks you in. They’ll check your information in the poll book. Understandably, some people are
uneasy about announcing their name in public, but it is the law,
and it helps ensure openness in elections.
Show It
Next, it’s time to show your photo ID. That way, poll workers
can compare your face to your photo and confirm that you really are you. Please have your photo ID ready when you get in
line to vote.

Clean and Green Day May 7, 2016!
The Department of Public
Works will again sponsor
the Annual Clean and
Green Day on Saturday
May 7, 2016 from 9 a.m.
to 11 a.m. We will meet
across the Dale Creek
footbridge east of the
downtown shops to begin
planting perennials and

shrubs as well as cleaning up debris along Dale Creek. This is
a great opportunity for residents and community groups/
organizations to participate in helping Greendale stay ‘Clean
and Green’ !
The address on your ID doesn’t have to be current. And the
name on your ID doesn’t need to be an exact match for your
name in the poll book. (So, Richards who go by Rich, Bobs
who are also Roberts and Susans with IDs that say Sue can
relax.) Of course, there are certain requirements. Your ID
should look like you, even if you’ve colored your hair, shaved
your beard or lost some weight.
Sign It
Finally, you’ll sign the poll book (unless a physical disability
prevents it). Your signature or mark should go right next to
your name and address. Now you’re ready to vote.

Looking for Help with Home Repair?
Milwaukee County’s Home Repair Program makes no or low
interest loans to income-eligible owners for most things around
the house that need to be repaired. The Program is quite simple. First, an application is taken over the phone. After verifying eligibility, someone from the Program staff will make a
home visit to discuss what type of work is needed. Next, bids
are obtained from experienced, private contractors registered
with the County. Upon receiving the bids, Program staff will
review the bids with you and most likely accept the low bidder
for your project. Next, the loan documents, including a promissory note and a lien are prepared for your signature. Once the
loan is closed, the contractor will begin the work. Milwaukee
County staff will inspect the work during progress (if necessary), and when the work is completed. After the final inspection is approved, the contractor will be paid and you will begin
to make monthly payments to the County. This type of loan
does not have any upfront costs or fees. Each household must
meet the income guidelines based on family size and gross
income including assets. The amount and term of the loan is
determined by the work that is done, the equity in your home,
and what you can afford to repay. For some homeowners, repayment can even be deferred until the house is sold. With
over 30 years’ experience and one of the largest programs in
the State, Milwaukee County Home Repair has successfully
repaired almost 8,000 homes. If you have any questions, or
would like to apply, please call Milwaukee County at
414.278.4917.
All gates or door openings or other means of access into the
swimming pool shall be maintained and secured with such
safety features that no child under 7 years of age can gain access to the swimming pool when it is not being attended by an
adult.
Please Note: A building permit is required for any temporary or
permanent pool in which water of more than 24" in depth at any
point is contained. Permits may be obtained at Village Hall or

Is Your Family’s Swimming Pool Safe?
Now that spring is here, it’s time to start thinking about getting
your pool ready for the upcoming summer months. The Department of Inspection Services wishes to remind property owners who have swimming pools, of their responsibility regarding
the installation and continued maintenance of safety barriers
around their pools. As you know, swimming pools are an attraction for small children and, therefore, pose a real danger
due to accidental drowning if proper safety barriers are not in
place. Given this concern, we are advising ALL pool owners
