The Human Body: secrets to our body
The human body is a very important part of life, without it we would just be floating spirits, not
to be able to touch anything physical. Every part of it is important. You can’t name one part of the body
that you could do without and still be able to do the same things, try, it is impossible.
One part of the human body we will talk about is cells. Cells are extremely complex structures,
they have many, many parts yet I will only name a few. To explain a cell you should think of a city, what
would a city need? One, electricity, what would you do without electricity? A cell has a nuclear power
plant just like a city would, they are called mitochondria. Mitochondria produce energy for the cell.
Mitochondria look like a bean with a squiggly line through it. The other important part of the cell is the
nucleus, the nucleus is bigger than any other part of the cell. It is like the government, giving instructions
and creating laws, but who will enforce those laws? Their names are lysosomes, they are the police of
the cell, they do not let anything bad stay in the cell-city. Another part of the cell that keeps things out
and lets things in is the cell membrane. The cell membrane tries to keep bad things that are not
supposed to be inside the cell out and lets other things out. Have you ever heard that cells reproduce
themselves, they split in half, so there are two, then those two split in half and there are four etc. Well,
another part of the cell is something called centrioles, they help reproduce each cell. So, going back to
the city theory, what would the citizens eat? Well, that’s why they have something called golgi bodies,
the golgi body sends food where it is needed. One other very important part of the cell is the
endoplasmic reticulum, but nobody wants to say that so we just call it the ER. They are like the garbage
men and mailmen of the city. There are many different types of cells, skin cells for example, and even
bone cells, yes, bones are made of cells. Cells are important because without them we would not grow
up or get taller or heal.
Another part of the body I will talk about is the skeletal system, personally I think the skeleton is
hugely important, without a skeleton we would just flop around on the ground like jellyfish. So when
God created us he made sure to give us bones. Did you know that teeth are bones, too? Your bones do
not just help you not to be a flop, they give you strength and protect you from damage. For example, if
your rib cage was not there, a simple punch could kill you. If your bones did not heal you would be in
trouble. For example, there is a disease called brittle bone disease, there are many different degrees of
it but the worst is where you could jump and all the bones in your body would shatter like fragile glass.
So God made our bodies to heal themselves. Inside our bones there is marrow, yellow marrow and red
marrow. The red marrow creates blood cells and the yellow marrow can store fat and proteins. Bones
are important because they give us shape.
Another part of the human body is the nervous system. The study of the nervous system is
called neurology, and the people who study it are called neurologists. Neurologists have discovered
many things about the nervous system, and the things they have discovered makes it possible for me to
tell you about it. The nervous system is made up of the central nervous system, consisting of the brain
and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system, consisting of the nerves. Your nervous system
gathers information about your surroundings, coordinates physical activities, and allows you to control
your body. Neurons are the actual nerves of the body. They are a part of both the CNS(central nervous
system) and the PNS(peripheral nervous system). Unlike almost all the body’s cells, neurons are not
replaced if they die. The nervous system is important because without it we would have no sense of
taste or touch.
I conclude that all these systems are important. Without cells you would be the same size as
when you were born, without a skeleton you would be a pancake not cooked, and without your nervous
system you would easily die. I conclude that there is in fact no part of the human body you can live
without and still have the same capabilities.
