Reasons- Henry Hudson explored iron, and discovered land and water waves (
perfect when owning a home or farm).

A typical farm was 50 to 150 acres consisting a house, barn, yards, and fields
A lot of fishing and many tobacco plantations
New York was originally settled by the dutch
Government
● New York Is governed by a Royal Colony
● Peter Stuyvesant became dutch governor of the New York
netherlands
● New York’s first governor is George Clinton, and founded
by Peter Minuit in 1626 on a Manhattan island
● The colony was run by a governor appointed by the king
of England. He made all the laws, and there was little
self-government
● Became a state on July 26, 1788
Economics
New York earns money in many ways:
1. American Market-food industry
2. “Bread Basket”- grew many crops and wheat
3. Manufactured iron ore products such as plows, tools,
kettles, locks, nails, and large blocks of iron.

religious freedom for: Quakers, Catholics, Lutherans, Jewish, and others
The ideas, manners, and customs of the Dutch made a big impression on the
colony of New York
