night
Considerable focus over the last few months has been on getting the
clubhouse back to full running order following the extensive damage due to
a burst water pipe. The bar, reception area, hallways and gear room were
flooded but for the immense work done by the staff and numerous
volunteers the situation could have been a lot worse. Work is continuing
following an extensive drying out period with the aim of getting the facility
back to pristine condition in time for the Christmas period.
We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to date and the
likely disruption over the next few weeks.
Also over the last few weeks there has been an extensive overhaul of the
lighting system and the benefits of this are to be seen within the complex.
This project is due to finish shortly.

The Senior footballers reached the semi final of the county football
Championship but were well beaten on the day by Ballincollig on a
scoreline of 2-10 to 0-09. It was disappointing for the players and all those
involved having put in such a tremendous effort all year. On the day
Ballincollig deserved their victory and we congratulate them on winning
the County final for the first time.
On the league front Nemo have reached the final following a victory over
O’Donovan Rossa and are due to play Carbery Rangers in the final on Sat
1st. Nov at 6.15pm
The Intermediate footballers were beaten by Carrigaline on sat 13th Sept
in Ballygarvan by the narrowest of margins. The game finished on a
scoreline of Nemo 3-5 to Carrigaline's 2-9. Two well taken penalties by
Alan Morgan late in the game were not enough to see them through.
The league performance was not good and but hopefully 2015 will a major
improvement.
The Junior A team lost to a very strong Douglas team in the quarter Final
of the championship on a scoreline of 1-16 to 1-08. In the league Nemo
finished mid-table recording some notable wins in the course of the
competition.
The Junior B team lost to Douglas in the championship on a scoreline of 111 to 2-06. The team looks like finishing in the top half of the league with
some very good performances during the campaign.
The under 21A footballers secured the county championship with a
tremendous victory over Ballincollig following a replay. See article below.
The Junior A Hurlers were defeated by St Finbarrs in the Sports Turf
Solution City Division Junior A Hurling Championship Final. Nemo had a
considerable amount of chances on the night but were unable to make
the most of the opportunities. The score at the final whistle was St.
Finbarrs 3-11 to 2-11 for Nemo. In the league we had mix fortunes
through the year but ended up in the top half of the table.

A powerful display by mid-field pairing of Jack Horgan and Alan O’Donovan paved
the way for a tremendous victory over Ballincollig in the U21A County football
final replay. Nemo made no mistakes this time, having left Pairc Ui Rinn on the
previous week feeling they had left the game behind them after allowing
Ballincollig to snatch 2 late goals.
Overall this was brilliant team performance with Nemo dominating proceedings
from start to finish. Nemo lead at the break on scoreline of 1-07 to 0-01. Conor
Horgan got the goal following great work by Donal O’Keeffe. A mini revival by
Ballincollig following a goal in the 43rd minute was quashed by a resilient Nemo.
The final score was Nemo 1-12, Ballincollig 1-04.
Well done to all involved, players, selectors and supporters.

Feile Finals
Weekend of the
27th - 29th June
in
Galway/Mayo
Our Fe 14 footballers won the honour to represent Cork at the Feile Peil Na N’Og this
year. Galway hosted the event and what a weekend the boys had. First may I express
the clubs sincere gratitude to our host club Corofin. They really looked after the boys
and made sure it was an enjoyable occasion for all involved. Many thanks Corofin.
Nemo were in group B of Division 1 for the qualifier rounds. They started on Friday
evening in Pearse Stadium in Galway against local team Claregalway. In a highly
entertaining game the boys lost out by 2 points on a score line of 3-06 to 2-07. But
they played really well and the omens were good for the rest of the qualifiers. Later
Friday evening they played the Co. Down champions Bredagh. Playing some great
football they won by 4-12 to 1-04. Saturday morning came the crunch qualifier tie
against Corofin – their hosts! Played in Corofin this proved to a cracking game with
the Nemo boys coming out on top 4-11 to 2-05. This set them up for a quarter final
tilt against highly fancied Austin Stacks. It was back to Pearse stadium Saturday
afternoon where Nemo put on a great display of attacking football to beat their Kerry
rivals 2-08 to 1-03.
The semi-final was played Sunday morning at the Connacht GAA centre. It was a very
close affair against Dublin kingpins Ballyboden/St Endas. In a tense finish Nemo ran
out narrow winners by 3-05 to 3-03. The cup final beckoned Sunday afternoon
against Naas from Kildare. This is a team Nemo had previously played earlier in the
year in the Mick O’Brien tournament. That time Nemo won. This time it was Naas’s
turn. Nemo started well and were 6 points up close to the interval. But Naas grabbed
an important goal just before half time. This proved the turning point as Naas
dominated the second half. In the end it finished 1-06 to 2-09 for Naas. Nemo were a
little unlucky but no complaints as Naas were deserved winners. We congratulate
Naas sincerely on their great win and great sportsmanship shown on the day.
Getting to the Division 1 cup final was a fantastic achievement for this Nemo team.

23 Nemo boys took part in a very enjoyable football blitz in Pairc Ui
Chaoimh on Wednesday July 30th. They played selections from St Patricks
(Limerick), Castlehaven and Glanworth. They equipped themselves very
well in all the games. All the players played in each game and the boys
really enjoyed playing in the Pairc. At the end they had a Q&A session with
Cork senior footballer Eoin Cadogen. Many thanks to Eoin for taking the
time to talk to the boys and to show them around the old stadium. They
may well be the second last Nemo team to have played football in the old
Pairc!

Fe 13 B Hurling League Final vs. Watergrasshill Sep 8
th
Played in Mayfield this was a thrilling final that certainly matched the
previous day’s All-Ireland for excitement. Nemo started really well and with
goals from Robert Geaney and Patrick Campbell they opened up a decent
lead. Watergrasshill were content to take their points and they did score
some smashing minors. At half time Nemo led by 4-06 to 1-07. But the goals
dried up for Nemo in the second half and the
Nemo boys were mostly fighting a rear guard action. Great display by Colin
Twohig in goal saved the day on several occasions. Also Finn Fhlannchadh,
David Cotter and David Kenny all played really well as Nemo were under
pressure throughout the second half. Only for some break away points by
Scott Phillpott – who was immense throughout – Nemo would have been
pegged back completely. With 3 minutes left they found themselves 2
points ahead – 3-09 to 4-08. Up stepped super sub Alan Barry to score a
fantastic over the shoulder point to leave Watergrasshill looking for a goal.
And they nearly got one only for the heroics of Jack O’Brien at center back
and Colin Twohig in goal. Eventually with the light fading the whistle
sounded and Nemo won. This was Nemo’s third year in a row winning the
East divisions Fe13 B hurling final and it was a great achievement by the
boys. Well done to them and all their mentors for their hard work
throughout the year.

Nemo U16 Girls County Finalists
Nemo's U16 Girls gallant run in the C Count Championship ended in a bravely
fought defeat to Kanturk in Mourneabbey recently. Having beaten Clann na Gael
(Drimoleague) in the quarter final, a semi-final in Rathpeacon V's Rockban
produced a high scoring, exciting draw, 6-12 a piece! The girls rallied in the replay
with a suburb performance winning 5-07 to 0-09. Despite a resolute effort in the
final Kanturk came out on top, 4-16 to 3 -11.
Unfortunately our captain, Saoirse Noonan missed out on the final as she was
representing Ireland in the FAI U17 Woman’s European championship (Well done
Saoirse!)
Next up is the Mid-Cork League final and we wish the girls all the best against
