We welcome you here!
Dear Students:
Hello and welcome to our college community. I know you will
find yourself at home on our wonderful campus.
De Anza is a fantastic place to learn. The green space of
the renovated, historic Sunken Garden, the flowering
of the native plants, the shade of the trees, the
landscaping across all 112 acres, the artistry of
student-created murals, the fountain that marks the
main quad – all contribute to the identity of our community.
Our academic programs are world class, and so are the instructors
who teach here. We have student clubs for many cultural, educational
and personal interests. Our Learning Communities provide mentorship and
guidance to students from all backgrounds, and we have excellent support
services in place to assist students in need.
De Anza is a vibrant college, with a unique focus on social justice and civic
engagement. We want you to not only be successful in your academic field, but
to become an engaged and informed citizen as well.
I urge you to take full advantage of all De Anza has to offer. We can provide
you with the tools you need to be successful in college and beyond.

AB540 Guide for
Undocumented Students
Q What does it mean to be undocumented?
A An undocumented person is a non-citizen who entered the United States
without legal immigration status or who stayed after the period she or he was
authorized to be here.
Q If I am undocumented, can I go to college?
A Yes, if you are an undocumented student you can go to any college or
university in California as long as you are admitted/accepted. To avoid paying
out-of-state tuition, you must meet the AB540 requirements.
Q How do I qualify to pay in-state tuition?
A In order to qualify for in-state tuition (at a public California college or
university) under AB540, you must complete 3 years of high school in California
and graduate or obtain the equivalent of a high school diploma. You must also
complete an AB540 affidavit (California Non-Resident Tuition Exemption
Request form) at the college/university that you will attend stating that you
meet AB540 eligibility requirements. Non-resident students are required to pay
“out-of-state” or “non-resident” tuition fees to attend California’s public colleges
and universities. These fees are much higher.
Non-residents are eligible for state financial aid. Only legal permanent
residents, naturalized and native students should apply for financial aid using
the FAFSA.
Need the AB540 Affidavit?
1. Go to www.deanza.edu
2. Click Admissions & Registration
3. Click Student Forms
4. Click Nonresident Tuition Exemption Request (AB540)
5. Download, print and fill out form
6. Turn in form at Admissions & Records Office in the Student &
Community Services Building
