Our Universe is a dynamic and exciting place. We live on a planet orbiting a star
which is one of around a septillion (or 1024) stars in a Universe itself 13.8 billion years
old.
Physics is the study of everything in our Universe.
We can explore for ourselves by looking out into the night sky. We can do simple
experiments at home or at school. Across the world Scientists are developing the
most high-tech experiments to peer deeper into space and to increase our
understanding.
This workshop is designed to contribute towards the following Curriculum for Excellence
Experiences and Outcomes:
Sciences:
SCN 4-06a: By researching developments used to explore space, I can illustrate how our knowledge of the
Universe has evolved over time.
SCN 3-11b: By exploring radiations beyond the visible, I can describe a selected application, discussing the
advantages and limitations.
SCN 4-11b: By carrying out a comparison of the properties of parts of the EM Spectrum beyond the visible,
I can explain the use of radiation and discuss how this has impacted on society and quality of life.
SCN 3-20: Through research and discussion I have an appreciation of the contribution
that individuals are making to scientific discovery and invention and the impact this
has made on society.
Literacy:
LIT 2-02a: When I engage with others, I can respond in ways
appropriate to my role, show that I value others' contributions and
use these to build on thinking.
LIT 2-07a: I can show my understanding of what I listen to or watch
by responding to literal, inferential, evaluative and other types of
