FunShine Express 2017 © Jack and the Beanstalk: A Short Story Once upon a time, there lived a woman and her son Jack. They did not have much money, so Jack’s mother asked him to sell their only cow. Jack went to the market, and on his way, he met a man who wanted his cow. “I do not have any money,” the man said, “but I do have these magic beans.” Jack traded the cow for the magic beans. When he got home, his mother was very angry that Jack took beans instead of money. She threw the beans out the window. The next morning, Jack woke up and looked out the window. A huge beanstalk had grown from the beans! It was so tall that Jack couldn’t see the top. He was curious, so he began to climb the beanstalk. He climbed all the way up until he reached a kingdom in the sky. He saw a huge house and decided to go inside. He did not know it belonged to a giant and his wife. The giant was not at home, but the giant’s wife welcomed Jack inside and offered him a delicious meal. While Jack was eating, the giant came home. He was very big and very fierce, so Jack hid. The giant sniffed the air. “Fee-fi-fo-fum,” he bellowed. The giant knew there was a human in his home. The wife lied for Jack and said there was no little boy in the house. The giant pulled out a bag of gold coins and counted them. He called for his golden harp to play music. The harp played and played until the giant fell fast asleep. Once the giant was asleep, Jack took the bag of coins and quickly climbed down the beanstalk. He gave the coins to the his mother, and she was very happy. Some time passed. Jack decided once again to climb the beanstalk to the giant’s house. He peered in the window and saw the giant instructing a hen to lay an egg. Jack watched with wide eyes as a golden egg popped out. When the giant fell asleep, Jack snuck inside the house to grab the golden egg. As he was sneaking back out of the house, the giant roared, “Fee-fi-fo-fum!” Jack did not stick around to find out what the giant said next! He ran outside the house and climbed down the beanstalk as quickly as he could. Before the giant could climb down after him, he grabbed an ax and chopped down the beanstalk. Jack never saw the giant again. © FunShine Express 2017 Jack and the Beanstalk Jack cow beans beanstalk giant harp golden egg ax © FunShine Express 2017 Rapunzel: A Rebus Story Once, a had a named Rapunzel.
