Outstanding Young Woman
“Still We Rise,” the theme for this YWCA Cambridge 22nd Tribute to
Outstanding Women, refers to the strength and tenacity of the women and
the young woman who we honor this year. “Still We Rise” refers to the
continuing effort of the women who make their homes at YWCA Cambridge
housing facilities (and those who don’t) to be overcomers in spite of the
seemingly insurmountable odds that they face daily. “Still We Rise” refers to
the tireless work of the YWCA Cambridge staff and volunteers to do a job and
do it well even when there often isn’t enough time, womanpower or money.
“Still We Rise.”
Dedicated to eliminating racism
empowering women and
promoting peace, justice,
freedom and dignity for all.
We are the YWCA Cambridge and “Still We Rise.” We carry out our mission by delivering needed programs and services in the Cambridge
and Marshfield communities. Tribute to Outstanding Women is our signature, annual fundraiser helping to support essential YWCA services,
including the Homeless Family Shelter; the Tanner Residence, a housing facility for single women who have experienced debilitating trauma;
and the Marshfield Branch, which provides high-quality, affordable year-round programming for women and children.
For 22 years the YWCA Cambridge has sponsored a Tribute to Outstanding Women, an event that annually recognizes the accomplishments
of just a few of the outstanding women in the Cambridge and Marshfield communities. Our Tribute to Outstanding Women provides an
opportunity to say “thank you” to these women who share the YWCA’s mission and vision of a world free from racism, in which women are
fully empowered and all people live with peace, justice, freedom and dignity. Our honorees this year are dreamers and doers who use their
talents and skills to enrich the lives of the people in our communities. They educate our young, protect our community, defend low-income
people against housing discrimination, bring comfort to grieving families who have lost a loved one, and advocate for our Marshfield Branch
of the YWCA Cambridge as a viable service provider among organizations and agencies throughout the South Shore area, New England and
Africa. Our young woman honoree, similarly, is making her mark as an entrepreneur, community organizer, and an outstanding high school
student. Individually and collectively, our 2014 honorees personify the theme, “Still We Rise”.
By attending this year’s Tribute to Outstanding Women you help us raise the funds needed to continue our tradition of service to the
Cambridge and Marshfield communities. Thank you for your support.
