Binders…
• All students are expected to carry a 3”
binder.
• Each class has specific dividers.
• Students are expected to keep work in it’s
proper location at all times… this will help
with “lost” & “late” work!
• Please check your student’s binder and
help them stay organized!
• Random binder checks may be conducted!

FAQ about 8th Grade Science
Does my child have to complete a science fair
project?
YES! Every student at Santan will complete a
science fair project. 
Can my child work in a group on science fair?
NO! Students are expected to work by
themselves!
What about AIMS?
All 8th grade students will take the science AIMS
this year. We expect to continue our growth in
AIMS Science scores!

What about the abstinence program?
We are still waiting for the state to decide about
funding… at this time we are still planning on having the
same company come in to share the program. I will keep
you informed!
What if my child says they have NO science
homework?
I don’t assign very much homework… however, if you are
in doubt, you can check my website to see what has
been happening for the week. Also, check your child’s
binder- they should have a table-of-contents for each
unit. See what they are working on!

Students will be expected to read daily. I will
vary the ways in which their reading minutes will be
recorded. Their independent reading will be
counted towards their grade.
D.E.A.R- Drop Everything And Read– Independent
reading books should be brought to class everyday.
I will have random checks throughout the year.
Book Projects
• Each quarter the students will be completing ONE
book project and ONE Parent Book Interview. The
first project is due August 31st.
• Genres are to be selected according to the
handout. The books must be grade-level
appropriate and approved by the teacher.
Graded Work…
• Graded work is kept in the back of the
room in file folders.
• Folders are sent home several times per
quarter, but MUST be returned WITH the
work.
• Please do not allow your child to “cleanout” this folder… they will need to return all
papers!

•BS in Elementary Education and Special Education from Grand
Canyon University.
• Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern
Arizona University.
• teaching certificates in the areas of Elementary Education,
Learning Disabilities, and Emotional Disabilities as well as a
Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement.
• I taught three years in the Gilbert School District as a Special
Education Teacher for Kindergarten through 2nd Grade.
• moved to the Chandler Unified District and taught the same thing
at Erie Elementary.
•4th year here at Santan Junior High- I have enjoyed my move to
junior high and look forward to working with your students this
year.
