Directors Letter – March 2017
We all want our lives to make a difference and leave an impact in the world in some way.
One way we try to do that is through the time we volunteer and the money we give.
So does what you do from the Sno-Valley Senior Center have an impact? Absolutely!
I get a front row view of the difference you make in the loves of our local senior citizens
every day! People are getting fitter, making friends, enjoying better health, finding deeper
community involvement, savoring delicious meals instead of being isolated and alone.
Here are a couple of thank you notes we have received:
“Dear Sno-Valley Seniors, Thank you for all of the love and kindness you have shown. We
shared several meals with you when we first moved here. You made us feel so welcomed here. Mona”
“Dear Lisa,… I cherish the friendships formed and the love people have for each other and the
history made there over the years. Z.S.”
“Dear Caroline, (our Social Worker)
Thank you so very much for your caring, your kindness and your help. Some of my responsibilities are
becoming difficult and worrisome at my age. But what a good, kind, and friendly person you are. You
made my day a real pleasure. Because of you, there was a candle glowing brightly in my day. God
Bless. Doris”
“A note to thank you for your thoughtfulness and to let you know it really meant a lot. The
info, conversation, time, support, understanding, acceptance. Renee”
I love donations made in honor of someone or in memory of someone passed away. By doing that, you are
furthering the legacy of that person and honoring them in a public, special way. It shows that they are making
a difference and will never be forgotten. It gives you the opportunity to be part of that as well.
Each year, we provide nearly 40,000 hours of programs and services and 16,000 hours are contributed by
volunteers to make that happen! We serve over 11,000 delicious homemade meals at the Center and deliver
over 4,600 Meals on Wheels directly to people’s homes. 1,600 people are touched by the services and
programs every year. That’s a lot of people who are empowered to lead healthy, enriched lives. We can’t do it
without you!
Who would you like to honor and thank with a donation in their name this month?
Thank you! Lisa Yeager, Director, 425-333-4152, ext 1, [email protected]
P.S. I hope you will see a new van in our parking lot this month! Negotiations are happening as this newsletter
goes to print. Thank you to all those who donated to make this possible!
Advisory Council Spotlight: Pat Busser
I graduated with an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education with honors, from
BCC, teaching in Carnation, Preston and Issaquah. My husband always teases me about my
classroom projects costing me more than the salary I was making.
I have been volunteering for our Senior Center since 1996. My parents were part of the
founding and building of our Senior Center. I took computer classes here which grew into
volunteerism. I have been involved in numerous areas: editor and chief of our newsletter,
keeping membership data updated, every area of our birthday celebrations, fundraising
endeavors, serving lunches, writing thank you notes, chair of the Christmas bazaar, board
member 6 years with 2 of those years as president, and here I am back on the board. For
those of us who grew up in Carnation; having ongoing friendships with our elders, new
friends and each other; this Senior Center has been and is very important for us to keep
our doors open and operating on solid footing. For my generation and the generation before us,
volunteering was a part of our makeup. To help others was very important. I am happy to see we are
getting some younger members volunteering and loving our seniors and our Senior Center.

The Sno-Valley Senior Center is a place that
sees 50-100 people a day come through its doors and
offers a plethora of events, not only for our seniors but
for the community-at-large.
Our annual budget is approximately $550,000
for operations, and maintenance, of our center. We are
a thriving place that offers connectivity, fun, a great
homemade lunch every day (just look at the menu!),
options for staying active mentally and physically,
volunteer engagement and more. We often see folks
every day of the week because this is such an
important part of their lives.
Your financial support is always welcome. We
primarily serve Duvall, Carnation and Fall City and are
thankful for the support that each of those
communities offers. This Valley is quite special and we

$10, $5 donation for seniors 60+
Weekdays the Center serves a hot lunch at noon,
made from scratch by Chef Jennifer Berg and our
crew of talented volunteers. Many meals feature
fresh organic produce from local farms. Please see
Jennifer if you’d like to volunteer. You can also get
a take-out meal by arrangement with the kitchen.
You’ll find the monthly menu in the middle of the
newsletter and around the center!

Meals On Wheels
This is a great delivery service we can offer
through Sound Generations for qualifying
home-bound seniors and others needing frozen
prepared meals. Registration is necessary. Please
see Kira if you are interested in receiving
meals. You can apply online at
soundgenerations.org or call the Center at
425-333-4152 for more information. We call
clients for orders twice a month and volunteers
deliver meals every other Wednesday.

Potluck Dinner and a Movie!
Wednesday, March 15 @ 5pm
We are back on for this fun night of food, friends
and a movie! Bring a dish and join us for a spread
of delicious food and a great movie! This is a free
activity hosted by friends and
neighbors. Sign-ups are
encouraged, but walk-ins are
always welcome. We’ve watched
movies such as The Bucket List,
Elf, and The Help. Come to see
what we’re showing next!
Free Bread
Every Tuesday
Look for bread that is delivered every Tuesday by
a group of wonderful volunteers! Every week you
will find loaves of bread, muffins, cakes and
different treats from the local grocery store and
bakeries in town!
Starbucks Treats
Monday-Friday
Our center is lucky to be a part of the Harvest
Roll-Out program, which allows us to pick up the
extra food that Starbucks has from the day before,
so that it doesn’t go to waste! We were one of the
first test sites for this program and it
has been a huge success across the
state and country! We are grateful
that Richard Pavilon goes to pick up
the food every day he is here.
Try a new class or return
after 3 months and take that
class for free!
Free Pet Food Available through King
County Humane Society
More Activities!
The Senior Center has arranged for Pet Food

delivering the bags of food to the center. If you

please be sure to pick it up by the Friday of the
