MONTESSORI WORLD SCHOOL March/April 2013 Issue 6 The Panda Post A Publication for the Parents of the Panda Room Primary Children Email us: [email protected] Classroom News Birthdays March 5th we celebrated Ashna Mathur and her sixth birthday, March 22nd we celebrated Robert Mangum and his third birthday. April 29th, we will celebrate Matthew Gu and his fifth birthday. February Pandas entirely enjoyed sharing friendship lunches with each other on Valentine’s Day. Our visit from the dentist and his tooth fairy was a hit. Human body traces adorn our classroom walls as Pandas traced themselves, measured their heights, push-pinned organs and stenciled skeletal bones. Your child may tell you that the femur is the longest and strongest bone in their body or that the heart is the strongest muscle and does not look like a Valentine! With such interest in their bodies and how they work, we will continue with lessons and discussions on our bodies; for example, why the skull has “cracks”. March A Montessori classroom intrinsically engages each of the five senses, and in March we highlighted our exterior sense organs and how they work together, even separately. Blindfolds touch boards, sound bottles and tasting bottles will help us understand these concepts. For the Festival of the Arts the children have been engrossed in art work all month and their masterpieces deserve applaud! The American Montessori Society conference left us teachers inspired and refreshed with new ideas for the classroom! We learned from many workshops and applauded the opening performance of MWS elementary students on the first conference night. At the end of the month we celebrated Spring with an egg hunt. April The theme Seasons will grace our classroom in April as we discuss their signs and cycles. Pandas are already deep in soil as we plant last summer’s seeds in the warm spring earth. This theme actually weaves itself throughout the entire school year as you will see reflected in the children’s art adorning our classroom walls. Other News... May April showers bring May flowers, and as our garden blooms, we will discover roots and all the elements of gardening. We will celebrate our mothers with a tea on May 10th. The book fair, mid-May, is a great time to stock up on summer reads. Keep in mind all enrichments end on May 24th and Memorial holiday is May 27th.
