Adjudicators’ Biographies
Justin Ediger (Elk City Schools, Oklahoma) - Justin Ediger is a native of Beaver, Oklahoma
and has taught vocal music education in Oklahoma public schools for each of the last 21
years. Mr. Ediger holds both the Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music
degrees from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. In 2005, he
attained National Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards and is currently pursuing certification in secondary school administration from
Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Mr. Ediger is in his 16th year of instruction at
Elk City Public Schools where he co-teaches two junior high and three high school choirs
and is administrator of the Elk City Pioneer Performing Arts Center. His junior high choirs
have consistently earned superior ratings in both sight-reading and concert at the district
level while his high school groups have won the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association’s (OSSAA) 4A
Sweepstakes award six times. He has been guest conductor for the Eastern Oklahoma Choral Directors Association,
Central Oklahoma Choral Directors Association, East Central Oklahoma Choral Directors Association and the Southwest
Kansas Choral Directors Association. He is a member of the Western Oklahoma Choral Directors Association (past
president and director of distinction), Oklahoma Choral Directors Association (OCDA), the Oklahoma Music Educators
Association (OMEA) and the Oklahoma Education Association and is a former board member and all-state Chair for both
the Jazz and Junior High OCDA honor groups. His choirs have been selected three times as OMEA honor organizations.
Mr. Ediger has been a guest performer with recording artist Ben Folds and is a frequent adjudicator for the OSSAA. In
addition to teaching and performing, Mr. Ediger is chancel choir director for the Elk City United Methodist Church. He
has two children and two step-children, Anna Ediger (a sophomore at Oklahoma City Community College), Drew Ediger
(a sophomore at Norman North High School in Norman Oklahoma), Jonah White (a junior at Elk City High School) and
Hannah White (a 5th grader at Grandview Elementary in Elk City). His wife Jo is a high school English Instructor at Elk
City High School.
Leigh Ann McClure (Keller Independent School District, Texas) - The child of two music
educators, Leigh Ann McClure is in her ninth year as Head Director of the Keller (Texas) Central
High School Choral Music Department where her program has found continued success.
Before coming to Keller, Mrs. McClure taught in Arlington, Cleburne and Alvarado, Texas. She
received her BME degree from Baylor University and her MME from The University of North
Texas. During her tenure at Central, her choirs have been consistent University Interscholastic
League Sweepstakes trophy recipients and have been named “Outstanding Overall” at three
choral music festivals. Since 2006, 29 CHS students have been named to the TMEA All-State
Choir and nine have received the coveted UIL “Outstanding Performer” medal at the Texas
State Solo and Ensemble Contest. In addition to her work with CHS, Mrs. McClure has taught
Texas all-state choir audition preparatory camps on several college campuses, is an active
judge at UIL activities and has served TMEA as Region Secretary, MS/JHS Region Coordinator,
Region Vocal Chair, and organizer of the All-State Women’s Choir. In 2013, she was honored by UIL as a recipient of the
state’s “Sponsor of Excellence” award. Mrs. McClure is currently serving as Vocal Vice-President of the Texas Music
Adjudicators’ Association and was thrilled to conduct two region’s honor choirs this year. She is an active church
musician and is the Director of Music and Worship at Saginaw United Methodist Church. In her spare time, Mrs.
McClure enjoys singing with Schola Cantorum of Texas and spending time with her grown children and grandson.
Dr. David Means (University of Texas-Pan American, Texas) - Dr. David Means is Director of Choral
Studies at the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, TX and is also the director of the Valley
Symphony Chorale. Dr. Means came to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas from Austin where he was
Head Choral Director of the Grammy Award winning Fine Arts Academy of Westwood High School.
Means has also taught at the University of Southern California, Christopher Newport University, Hill
College and has more than 15 years’ experience teaching public school choirs in Texas and California.
Dr. Means earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree in piano and voice from Howard Payne
University (teachers included John Ratledge, Elem Ely, Linda Hibbs Dougherty, Alan Smith), a Master
of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Baylor University (teachers included Hugh Sanders,
Robert Young, Karen Peeler, Joyce Farwell, Joyce Jones) and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in
Choral Music from the University of Southern California (teachers included William Dehning, James
Vail, Morten Lauridsen, Bard Suverkrop) where he was awarded the prestigious Outstanding Choral Student Award.
Means is active as a guest conductor, adjudicator and clinician, having taught and performed across the United States,
Europe, Mexico, Canada and Japan. He has also sung as a professional chorister with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, the
Virginia Chorale and has recently begun singing with the San Antonio Chamber Choir. Also active as a baritone soloist,
Dr. Means has sung as a featured singer with the internationally known Mark Morris Dance Group in two performances
with the Virginia Waterfront Arts Festival. Means has premiered works by Morten Lauridsen, Z. Randall Stroope, David
Childs and John Rutter, and studied conducting in masterclasses with Helmuth Rilling, Frieder Bernius, Robert Shaw and
Paul Salamunovich. Means remains active as a conductor, singer and pianist, and has shared the stage with Quincy
Jones, Liza Minneli and Michael Feinstein, and has performed for former president Ronald Reagan.
