Meet the new Director of
Nursing
My name is Lori Gordon. I grew up in St. Paul
Minnesota with my mom and four sisters. I knew at a
very young age that I wanted to help take care of people.
At age 12 I became a candy striper and by 16 I was
caring for my grandmother in her home until she
passed. It was a very sad time but I learned a lot from
her.
I have six children, all grown and off on their own,
five girls and one boy. Three of the girls have given me
nine beautiful grandchildren, six boys and three girls. I
started nursing school when I was 24 and had to leave
after the first two years because of divorce. I had to go
to work to take care of my children. I wore many hats
during this time, I waitressed, cooked, did some
advertising, spent a few years as a blackjack dealer in a
casino and also worked in radio and newspaper
advertising, all while being a single mom. I moved to
Fort Dodge in 1996 where I operated a home daycare for
a few years till my youngest was in school, still hoping
to someday realize my dream of being a nurse. After my
youngest started school I took a third shift job with
Electrolux and stayed there for almost 11 years till they
began the process of closing their facility. It was at that
time I was able to return to school and receive my
nursing degree. My daughter and I graduated and were
pinned in the same ceremony; needless to say it was a
very proud moment. My experience has been in long
term care and assisted living. I love them both but feel
that I can do more for people in the assisted living
setting. I am just thrilled that I have been chosen for
this position and am very excited to work with all of you!
Some of the things I enjoy in my spare time are
camping, bike riding and kayaking. I love to sing
karaoke, going on cruises and spending time with family
and my puppy Hailey.
Lori, Windsor Manor welcomes you!

Webster City. In her spare time she enjoys spending
time with their three boys and their families. She

and her husband enjoy attending the Iowa Hawkeye
football games.
She has 38 years of office experience with
Electrolux, Hamilton County Public Health and

What Tree Did You Fall
From?
If your birthday falls on the dates of:
June 1–3: Ash--You are a loyal and reliable person,
and you take your relationships with others very
seriously. Your friends and family trust you without
question.
June 4–13: Hornbeam--You are kind and open with
everyone you meet, and you expect the same from
others. A logical person, you think about things
from every angle before making a decision.
June 14–23: Fig--You are very practical and down
to earth. A social butterfly, your sense of humor
and love for life constantly draw others to you.
From the Life Enrichment
Coordinator
May has been a fun month but June will be even
more fun!! Music in Stanhope on Wednesday nights
starts on June 1st. On those evenings we leave here at
5:30 so you have the choice to eat here or at the park.
Different vendors will be serving food each week. Be
ready to go and listen to some fun and good music by
5:30. The West Bend music festival is also on June
12th. We will be leaving here at 12:30 so if you plan on
going, make sure you get down for dinner early and be
ready to go. There will be four different groups
playing music. And hopefully it won’t rain. Supper is
served there or if the group prefers, we can stop in
Humboldt at Hardees as we have done before.
Donna L. Smith LEC
June 24: Birch--You are a calm, content person
who never complains. Your modesty and
friendliness are endearing, and others enjoy your
company.
June 25–30: Apple--You are charming and pleasant
to be around. Adventurous and carefree, you prefer
to be on the go as much as possible, and you love
discovering new things.

A saxophone is a musical instrument that is made of brass and
often just called a "sax". Due to the fact it is made from brass it is
often involved in what is referred to as a brass section alongside
true brass instruments like the trumpet or trombone. However, it is
not a true brass instrument but a member of the woodwind family
of instruments because it has a reed. It was developed from
the clarinet and shares many similarities to the clarinet. The player
blows into a reed fitted into the mouthpiece of the instrument.
There are several different kinds of saxophone. In order from
low to high pitch they are: tubax, contrabass, bass, baritone, tenor,
alto, soprano, sopranino, and soprillo. However, only the baritone,
tenor, alto, and soprano are commonly used. It was invented in
1842 by Adolphe Sax and is used in classical, jazz, and
occasionally in rock, pop, and other styles. The big bands of
the 1940s and 1950s always used it too. Famous saxophone
players were Marcel Mule (classical music) and Charlie
Parker (jazz music). We could add Wayne to this list.
