2017 FXB FIELD EDUCATION INTERNSHIPS: FRANCE BACKGROUND The FXB Field Education Program is offering a new internship opportunity to Harvard students. Selected applicants will work in the field of inclusion focusing on migrants and refugees. The aim of the internship is to undertake qualitative research to build community networks and facilitate dialogues locally and internationally. People migrate to escape war, violence, destruction caused by political chaos, economic crises and natural disasters. According to the first data for the whole of 2016 - 36,233 people were protected in France last year by OFPRA or the CNDA, an increase of 35% compared to 2015 (against 14 293 people protected in 2012). The number of asylum applications has also increased, with 85,244 asylum applications registered in 2016, an increase of 6.5% compared with the previous year (OFPRA 2016). Almost 40% of all asylum seekers are from Afghanistan, Sudan, Syria, Albania and Haiti. AREAS OF INTERVENTION Mental health support Housing Health and nutrition Education Gender specific issues Employment TASKS Data collection to address risks and obstacles migrants and refugees face related to inclusion Data collection using the following: Design interview guides Conduct interviews and facilitate focus groups Conduct ethnographic observations Analysis of data collected Develop practical tools that can be used by the host organization in their work with refugees and migrants Presentation of findings with the host organization and members of communities Production of a report with a policy brief on refugee and migrant rights and services DURATION Summer: June 1 to July 31, 2017 HOSTING SITE Adoma, a mixed-economy company, a subsidiary of the SNI Group (Caisse des Dépôts) was set up in 1956 by the government to welcome migrant workers. Adoma is the first national operator for the accommodation and accompaniment of asylum seekers. By 2016, there were more than 16,790 to be hosted in 175 structures in 52 departments. Within the framework of the National Hosting Facility (DNA), Adoma manages 25% of the capacities of the device national. The centers host single people, families with children, isolated minors (about 70 different nationalities). Principal countries of origin of primary asylum seekers: Sudan (5,868), Afghanistan (5,641), Haiti (4,854), Albania (4,599), Syria (3,562).
