www.mdc.wa.edu.au 22 July 2015 Volume No 23 : Issue 21 Vision Statement Mater Dei College believes in the dignity and the nurturing of the individual and seeks to follow, with courage, Mary’s example of faith. From the Principal SEMESTER 2 BEGINS NEW ZEALAND TOUR I extend a warm welcome to all in the Mater Dei College community. Our Tour Group returned from their successful tour of the ski slopes of New Zealand over the semester break. A very enjoyable experience was had by all. I hope the Semester break has proven to be enjoyable, restful and reinvigorating for students, parents and staff. We look forward to a very smooth start to Semester 2 and all that the coming academic term holds. Term 3 is an important preparatory term whereby the focus on improved academic outcomes sets the scene for a successful conclusion to the year. I urge students to ‘lift their game another notch’ during this critical time. As we often hear in sporting circles, the ‘third quarter is the championship quarter’. Games can be won or lost depending on how the third quarter plays out. In a similar fashion, let’s make this Term 3 the ‘championship term’ as far as students’ academic performance is concerned. TERM DATES A student-free day is scheduled for Monday 24 August. Please mark this day in your family calendar as the College will not be open for normal business. STAFF MATTERS I would like to welcome back from leave Mr John Crooks and Mrs Kerry Byrom-Carter as they rejoin our community this term. I would also like to welcome Ms Maree Grayden who is replacing Miss Urqhuart in teaching Drama this semester. YEAR 7 2017 ENROLMENTS Letters of Offer of enrolment places for Year 7 2017 were posted last term. Parents are requested to confirm their acceptance of their enrolment intentions by the end of July. If there are any queries concerning the Enrolment Offer, please contact the College Enrolment Officer, Mrs Angela Lourens, to resolve your concerns. There have been numerous reports of items of uniform (from ties to trousers and everything in between) that have gone missing during the term. It would be very helpful and much appreciated by some families if parents/guardians could check to ensure that all of the College clothing in your child’s possession has not been mistakenly accumulated when getting changed at school. This check, however, will only be of any value if the clothing has been marked with the child’s name. The importance of ensuring that every piece of clothing is permanently and clearly marked cannot be stressed enough. If you locate any items of uniform or other such materials that have mistakenly been acquired, it would be appreciated if you return them to Student Services or to the Uniform Shop. Mrs Erika Hancock Deputy Principal School Fees It was a College requirement that school fees be paid in full by 31 March for families that are not on an approved payment plan. As a matter of justice to other parents and students at the College all parents are required to meet their financial commitments. Consideration will be given to parents that are experiencing financial hardship. If you have not made arrangements to enter into a payment plan please make an appointment to discuss further with the Assistant Business Manager, Mr Sean McDonagh.
