Jože Pirjevec, born in 1940 to Slovene parents, in Trieste, Italy,
has in in the last ten years written 9 books on history of Slovenian and Yugoslavian territories, published in Slovenian and
Italian.
He had lectured at universities of Pisa, Padua and Trieste and is
currently senior research councilor at the Science and Research
Centre in Koper, Slovenia.

On the basis of numerous sources, including dispatches from
ambassadors and reports by Eastern and Western intelligence
services, as well as comments by Yugoslav politicians and world
and religious leaders, the author succeeds in creating the most
comprehensive portrait so far of this charismatic leader of the
second half of the 20th century.
The book offers numerous newly revealed facts which not
only help to explain many of Tito’s decisions and actions but
also heavily contributed to the disintegration of Yugoslavia
in nineties. As such, the book represent the first serious
attempt to outline the contemporary history of South-East
Europe.
