E-Learning Lesson #4

E-Learning Lesson #4
(Topic- Chester’s Way)
Basic Information:
Since we have an e-learning day today, I have attached lesson plans below. These lessons are to be completed with your child
throughout the day. The activities have been correlated to the activities that would occur during a normal school day for your
child. The time that it takes to complete the lessons should be somewhere around 3 hours, including a free play time and
snack. Feel free to complete these activities back-to-back or throughout the day. If you completed the lessons below,
please return this sheet with a signature at the bottom.

Instructions:
(If you have the book at home, you can read the book instead)
1. Go to the website listed in supplies/links
2. Watch the video once through.
3. Watch the video through a second time, pauses at
appropriate times to ask the following questions:
• What are some things that Chester likes?
• What does Chester like to eat?
• What is Chester’s best friend’s name?
• Do you think they will be friends with Lilly?
• Who jumped out to scare the mean kids?
• Do you think they will be friends with Victor?
“Telephone”
Purpose:
Answering “wh” questions
Materials from Home:
Telephone or objects to use as telephones
Procedure/Instructions:
Creating a chance to answer “wh” questions and higher level
questions is a great way to continue communication between your
child and the family, and to guide them toward more
communication. Start with basic questions (those with clear
answers) and then continue the conversation with questions that are
more complex. For example, you could begin the conversation with,
“What color are you wearing?” and then ask questions with two
choices for answers or open-ended questions. To make the
interaction more fun, use real or pretend “phones” while talking.
Below is a list of possible questions:
• What color are you wearing?
• Where are you?
• What did you eat for breakfast?
• What is your favorite toy?
• What do you want for snack?
• What is your name?

Explain to your student that you will be working to create a pattern.
Ask your student what the pictures in each row are. Reading the
pattern aloud is the easiest way to determine pattern.
For example, when the pattern is with a rake and leaf you could say
the following:
“Rake, leaf, rake, leaf, (pause and point to the empty box).”
Glue
Scissors
Highlighter or bright marker
Complete each row with your student. If necessary, cover the other
rows with additional pieces of paper to eliminate other distractions.
Gross Motor
(“Big Room”)
Hide and Seek
Hide and Seek
Purpose:
Following directions
Counting to 10
Materials from Home:
Room in your home with hiding spots.
Instructions:
Explain to your student that you are going to play hide and seek.
Have your student practice counting to ten with you several times,
and explain that you will give them that much time to go and hide.
Count to ten and then go and find your student! Reverse roles if
desired.
Fine Motor

Fort Building
Fort Building
Purpose:
Crossing midline (moving arms or legs to opposite side of the body)
Sharing/Working as a team.
Materials from Home:
Fort Materials: sheets, pillows, chairs,
cushions…etc.
Procedure/Instructions:
Your student will be working with you to create a fort. This fort can
look like anything you would like it to. The goal of the activity is for
the student to work with others to create something that they can
share and play in. Focus on the student helping you to place objects
up high, down low, and using their hands crossing midline. Also
focus on the idea of sharing and that you are “working together” to
make the best fort. After you have created it, have snack or read a
book inside the fort!
Snack
During snack time at school, we are working to increase functional
communication for your student. This will look different for your
student as compared to his/her peers. However, here are some
basic ideas to work on during your snack time:
• Raising his/her hand, instead of calling out name of the
snack wanted or the adult’s name repeatedly
• Sitting with knees under the table
• Asking for more with whole phrases of sign language or
words (whichever is appropriate)
• Answering questions asked with a yes or no answer.
Materials from Home:
At least two choice of preferred snacks
Free Play
During this time, your child should be working on the following
skills:
• Playing with others (if possible)
• Using toys appropriately (i.e. cars are meant to drive, not
throw and so on)
• Using words to communicate wants and needs
Purpose:
Identifying weather
Identifying day of the week/month
Materials from Home:
Preferred toys

then given them two options (i.e. “Is it rainy or snowy?”).
Point to the pictures as needed for context clues as well.
Once the weather has been decided, circle the correct
answer.
Temperature: Have your student step outside and feel the
air temperature. Prompt as needed, and circle the correct
answer. (Note this can be objective and that is okay.)
Calendar: Review the day of the week by asking what
yesterday was, today is, and tomorrow will be. Ask your
student to identify the month. If needed, point to the
word. Then model how to say the word if pointing was
not enough of a context clue for success. Count the
numbers up to the number for the current day. Circle
appropriately for day of the week, month, and the number
for the day.
