Residential conference for those who

Venue: ‘Nunyara’ Conference Centre

Australian Faith Community
Nurses Association
We will all face death and living well until the end of life is something most people want to experience. A good
death meets the dying person’s physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. Our failure to talk about and plan
for death is one of the most significant obstacles to improving the quality of living at the end of life.
Open discussions about dying can be difficult, so they are often ignored. This conference will inform you about many
aspects of dying so that it becomes easier to have hopeful conversations and make plans that will assist people to
die well. Preparing for a good death can help people achieve the best possible end to life.

Keynote Speakers
Dr Lawrie Palmer has extensive
experience in general practice both
overseas and in South Australia. In
2003 he completed training in palliative
medicine at The Queen Elizabeth
Hospital. Since then he has worked as a
specialist in palliative care, most recently
being appointed the Medical Head of Unit – Palliative
Care for the Northern Adelaide Palliative Service. He
is also a Senior Clinical Lecturer at The University
of Adelaide Medical School. He brings a wealth of
knowledge to the discussion around the role of
palliative care and dying well.
Russell Bartlett is trained as a teacher
and after theological training, was the
Pastor at Parkside Baptist Church in
Adelaide for sixteen years. Russell has
worked for the Baptist Churches of SA
for the last 16 or so years in various roles
including Pastor to Pastors, teaching in
Burleigh College, Regional Minister, Accreditation and
Formation Facilitator and Spiritual Director. Russell
is also the Coordinator of the Graduate Diploma in
Spiritual Direction at Tabor College, Adelaide. Now in
its second year, the course has been enthusiastically
received as a means of being formed for the ministry
of spiritual direction.
Niki Vasilakis is a celebrated classical
violinist and has enjoyed a career that
spans the globe. Niki’s most cherished
opportunities have been amongst
the world’s remote and marginalised
communities. It was through this
involvement that Niki was recognised as
‘Young South Australian of the Year.’ Niki is a dynamic
speaker whose faith is an integral part of her life and
expression in music. Niki will share the story of her
latest recording, SACRED with us. “…there is power
in prayer-filled, faith-filled music… it has that same
power today to be used by God to answer prayers,
bring comfort and deep peace to those desperately
needing an encounter”.
