Physical Map-Show physical features, or characteristics, of an area like landforms or bodies of water. With your numbered head, discuss the following: Which is political? How do you know? Which is physical? How do you know? Be prepared to give evidence to support your answer. LA1 Today’s To Do: 1. Read “Picture the Earth!” 2. Using your prior knowledge, fill in the blank world map (“Predictions” side). Try to figure out the location of the world’s 7 continents and 5 oceans. LA1 Today’s To Do: Flip your paper over to the “Correct Answers” side and use this map complete it! Follow along in your weekly. Maps are flat, detailed representations of places on Earth. Each half of the world is known as a hemisphere. The imaginary line that runs west to east, or horizontally, around our Earth is the equator. It divides the Earth into northern and southern hemispheres. The imaginary line that runs north to south, or vertically, around the Earth is the prime meridian. It divides the Earth into western and eastern hemispheres. Which direction to lines of longitude flow? Lines of latitude? Show With your arms!
