Message from the Pastor
My dear brothers and sisters,
When I visited an elderly woman in a hospital last week,
her fifty year old son expressed his remorse for not
attending Sunday Masses: “Father, It’s been a long time
since I practiced my faith. I am busy in my office even on
Sundays”. Another young man who works as a computer
engineer in the town was of the same opinion: “Father, I
was an altar boy in my church. I love my faith. But, I am a
lapsed catholic now because of my work schedule”. Those
experiences taught me that there is a direct connection
between possessing a strong catholic faith and feeding that
faith regularly by attending Mass and especially receiving
Communion. That connection is similar to any human
friendship.
All human friendships and love demand presence and
gestures of affection. This is most obvious with a child. He
comes to his mother to be embraced, kissed, protected,
consoled and loved by her. He needs her attention and
affection more than words; he looks for the actual
experience of her love. It is the same with married couples
and dating lovers. If a husband is hardly present to his
family because of his work, he puts a great strain on the
marriage. If a wife is never given any attention or shown
any affection, she wonders: Does he still love me?
Friends need regular contact and presence too. If friends
do not have frequent contact and presence- by being
together, sharing themselves, doing things together, eating
together or even by a social media communication- the
warmth among them would disappear, ending the
relationship. In your own life, you have had so many
friendships that eventually faded out and were no longer a
part of your day-to-day living. This is true about human
friendship: it demands some interaction and some signs of
affection.
In our relationship with the Lord, we express that
presence and affection through personal prayer, reading
Scripture, praying the Rosary or meditating. However, in
my experience, those who do not have regular
communication with Christ in Sunday Masses and
Communion, do not have adequate touch with him in any
of these other ways either. As in the above mentioned
experiences of people, life’s never ending pressures can
destroy that love and friendship with the Lord as it
happens in our interpersonal relationships. Jesus says:
“Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his
Blood, you do not have life within you”. He means that
without the Eucharist, we cannot maintain our life in
Christ, our friendship with Him.
As we celebrate the 90th Anniversary of our parish
foundation, our commitment as a proud member of this
parish must be strengthening our closeness with the Lord
Jesus in the Eucharist and inspiring a friend or a family
member to attend our Sunday Celebration.
May God Bless you!
Yours in Christ,
0215

Esas

¿Aún me ama?
