“It’s 40 years since the appalling Beverly first put Donna Summer on the turntable, stacked a
plate with little cheesy-pineapple sticks, plied her guests with alcohol, cigarettes and Demis
Roussos and slow-danced her way across the shag-pile into theatrical history.
The drinks party from hell begins when she and husband Laurence invite round new
neighbours, Tony and Ange, along with nervous divorcee Sue; jittery about the bash her
teenage daughter, Abigail, is throwing up the road. As that party reportedly gets out of hand,
this one too descends into chaos, and comedy, as drama and tragedy combine into an iconic
piece of theatre.
Amanda Abbington is best-known for playing Mary Morstan in Sherlock, Miss Mardle in Mr
Selfridge and DS Jo Moffat in Cuffs. Directed by Sarah Esdaile (Talking Heads, Cat on a Hot
Tin Roof), this new production of Mike Leigh’s legendary play is as hilarious and horribly
compelling as ever.”
Booking information
Complete the booking slip – in full, please, this saves the Convenor having to look up your
contact details from the files when it comes to confirming your place(s).
Places cannot be “held” by phone or email, your request goes on the list when full payment is
received.
Cash is fine if you can drop it through the letter box.
Cheques should be made payable to: HW&D U3A
Return the booking slip with full payment to the Convenor’s home address:
Mrs Claire Baker
82 Littleworth Road, Downley, High Wycombe, HP13 5UY
Don’t forget to enclose a stamped addressed envelope so your tickets and joining
instructions can be posted to you.
Once the closing date has been reached, it will be calculated if the trip is viable and the
Convenor will let you know you are booked. If the trip is cancelled through lack of support,
your payment will be returned.
The book and pay by date is the last day bookings can be accepted. After that, the exact
number of tickets have to be paid for. There will never be any places left over after the
closing date. There is no waiting list scheme.
Full joining instructions and tickets will posted using the stamp addressed envelope provided
by you nearer the time: if you have not received these two weeks before the outing, please
contact the Convenor as they may have gone astray.
The designated pick-up/drop-off points will be the only places to join and leave the coach.
Please let the Convenor know at the time of booking if you have any special requests by
noting them on the booking slip: a seat at the front of the coach, an aisle or middle-of-therow seat in the theatre etc., and they will do their best to accommodate them.
There will be no waiting list system: if you cannot go for any reason, please sell your ticket(s)
on and let the Convenor know the name(s) of the new people travelling and where they will
be picked up/dropped off by the coach. Should you be unable to sell them on, please let the
Convenor know that you are not coming so the coach isn’t waiting unnecessarily.
Payment will generally be non-refundable in the event of cancellation but efforts will be made
to make refunds where possible.
ALWAYS get in touch with any questions!
