In A GRAVE INJUSTICE, Prudy Taylor Board has crafted a delightful paranormal mystery. She eases
the reader into the supernatural element in such a way as to make it totally believable. She swings
comfortably between Corey’s job as a newspaper reporter in the present and the World War II death
of Karl Von Brett. Thanks to well placed geographic details, the reader is introduced to another character, the city of Fort Myers, Florida. Corey’s feisty relationship with Ben Crawford, her editor, adds
another level of tension to the solving of this fascinating mystery.

Corey went into the kitchen and immediately wished she’d put on her terry cloth robe
because the kitchen was frigid. Shivering, teeth
chattering, she headed for the refrigerator to get
a glass of milk. She was pouring the milk when a
wave of nausea washed over her. From a distance,
she heard the glass pitcher break on the kitchen
floor, felt the milk splash her feet…
…and found herself in the rec room again.
But this time, when she looked out the window,
she recognized the tall pine tree and the scrub
oaks surrounding the copse. It was the dead spot
in her lawn. Then she and Karl were standing
hand-in-hand on a grassy mound overlooking
one of the runways. The motors of a B-25 flying
overhead suddenly stalled.
Oh, God, Karl groaned. They can’t be more
than a thousand feet up. They don’t have a
chance.
She clutched his arm.
As she and Karl stood paralyzed with dread,
the plane spiraled toward the ground. A fireball
erupted skyward as the doomed bomber struck
the runway nose first. The intensity of the crash
was so great the plane split into three sections.
The air was filled with noise—the sound of the
collision and the sections of the plane striking
the runway, the crackling fire, the scream of sirens. The smell of fire and smoke and something
else—the cloying stench of burning human
flesh—saturated the air.
It took an eternity before a crash crew was
on the scene. As she and Karl watched, the rescue teams retrieved one, two, three…eight bodies.
She felt Karl shudder next to her, sensed his
fear building, but all she could think of was a toy
store with blood in the aisles and bodies strewn
about like rag dolls. Her mother who wouldn’t
open her eyes. Her father who wouldn’t answer…
