Geography Year 8 Term 5 – Japan

Jobs in Japan
The number of people working as rice farmers has massively decreased.
Japan’s economy is based on iron and steel, cars and high tech industries like
electronics. More people in Japan now work giving a service, with a rapidly
growing research and development industry also evident.
The Japanese work very long hours. They often work a 13 hour day, work on
Saturday and work on Sunday too.
Manufacturing’s decreased because it’s cheaper for them to make their goods
abroad where wages are lower.
Service sector has increased because Japan is the 3rd richest country in the world,
many people demand services.
Primary sector has decreased because machines do the job instead of people so
less man power is needed.
Quaternary sector has increased because Japan’s education system is excellent
and they have many gifted people to create new products

When a person gets older they often get ill so need
medical care and support, they need a source of income as
they can’t work this is usually a pension from the
government. As well as, company so they don’t get lonely
and finally the obvious needs like food and a warm place to
live so they don’t get ill or harmed.
Because there are so many old people in Japan the
Government struggles to give them all a decent pension so
