The Lynx Prints - Brandon Valley High School

This is the final newsletter of the 20112012
school
year.
Where did the year
go? Hopefully this was
a special and memorable year for everyone.
We are very proud of
our students and their
accomplishments and
look forward to watching their progress in
future years.
Good luck to our
eighth grade students
as they make their
move to the high
school.
I’d like to
thank the parents for
their support of the
middle school. Working
together

would be a good time
to start looking for
any lost or missing
items.
We would
much rather have our
textbooks than charge
students for them.
If your child is missing clothing, encourage them to look
through the lost and
found items. Many
items
are
never
claimed.
Assemblies will be
held in the final days
to recognize students
for a variety of
achievements.
Year End Schedule
The final day of school
for students will be
Wednesday, May 16th.
During the final days of
the school year, students will be expected
to turn in all textbooks
and issued supplies.
Any fines or bills accumulated over the year,
locker damage, instrument rental, lunch
charges, library fines,
textbook
damage
charges, athletic equipment, or other obligations will need to be taken care of. To pre vent surprises, now
SUMMER RECOVERY PROGRAM
Brandon Valley Middle

Summer Recovery program for two (2) weeks
this summer.
The
dates of the program
are: May 23, 24, 25,
29, 30 and 31. June 1,
4, 5, and 8.
12:00 p.m. This program will emphasize
math and reading as

and assignments from
the current year.

from 8:00 a.m. to If interested, please
complete an application and return it to
the middle school.
The application can
be picked up in the
office, on page 6 or
found on the Middle
School website under
the
parent
link.
Please contact Dan
Pansch at 582-3214 if
you have any questions.
2011-2012 YEARBOOKS
The 2011-2012 yearbooks will be distributed the last week of
school to students who
ordered one. If you
would still like one,
there may be extras.
When the order arrives,
yearbooks will be sold
on a first come, first
serve basis.
A problem we have
had in recent years has
been that at times inappropriate material
has been written in
some students’ yearbooks. A reminder to
students:
This is a
keepsake!
You will
want to be careful
whom you allow to
write in your book.
Material written in
books needs to be appropriate for school,
and anything inappropriate that is written
will be handled with
disciplinary action.

MESSAGE FROM ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, MR. HILL
Stay in touch with your
middle school student to
assist them in making good
decisions over the summer.
When your child lets you
know the basics (such as
when, where, with whom,
doing what, and for how
long), this helps them
know that you care and
can keep them from getting caught in an uncomfortable situation.
Your adolescent is fast becoming a young man or
woman and will model
many of your own behaviors. You have a tremendous influence on your
children; they are proud of
you and try to be like you.
Savor the time you have
together as it will pass by
quickly.
APPONTMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR 2012-2013
The calendar for next
school year has several
days that would be great
opportunities for setting up
any appointments for your
students during the school
year. Please make use of
these dates if possible so
your child does not have to
miss school for appointments.

vehicle, free pizza coupon
from Pizza Ranch, and their
picture is posted in the

SPORTS CAMPS, RANDY MARSO, ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR
I would like to make
everyone aware of the
opportunities provided
through individual and
team sport camps that
are offered by Brandon
Valley coaches during
the summer months.
The coaches in the
sports of boys basketball, girls basketball,
football, volleyball
and wrestling all offer
summer camp oppor-
tunities. These coaches
also provide many opportunities for open gyms
and weight room hours
throughout the summer.
Details on camps, and
other activities, can be
obtained from the individual head coaches of
these sports. Please contact the individual in
charge of each program
with questions, not the
school secretaries.

PIGSKIN CLASSIC
RANDY MARSO, ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR
I would like to invite
you to mark Saturday,
September 1, 2012 on
your calendar. This is
the date for the 12th
Annual Brandon Valley
Pigskin Classic, sponsored by the Brandon
Valley Athletic Booster
Club. The day will
start with a road

with the football
game, as our Lynx host
Watertown High School.
In between, there will
be fun for all ages. In
the afternoon, the Lady
Lynx Volleyball team will
host the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles.
Three-On-Three basketball, a tractor pedal
pull, punt-pass-kick
competition, soccer
challenge, blow up
games, and an entertain-
ment filled tailgater
will fill the need for
fun for all ages. Plan
now to join the fun.
Along with this event,
there will be a golf
tournament on Saturday, August 11, 2012,
as part of the Pigskin
Classic festivities.

SPRING CONCERTS AND MUSIC NEWS
The year may be almost
over, but we’ve still got a
lot going on in the band
room. Our solo contest was
held on April 21 and we had
outstanding results. Students performed very well
and received great scores.
Please take an opportunity
to congratulate your students on their hard work.
Thank you also to all who
came out to our annual
Turkey Supper in April. We
had a blast!
On Sunday, May 6th, the 7th
and 8th grade bands will
march in the Brandon Loyalty Day parade. The parade starts at 2:00 and runs
along Holly Blvd. from the
high school to Main Street
and then turns south on
Main to the lumberyard.
The seventh grade band is
the first thing in the parade
and the eighth graders are
last, so come out and show
support for those students.
7th grade and 8th grade students should report to the
middle school at 1:00pm.
Holly Blvd. will be blocked
off for the parade beginning
at 1:00, so please don’t be
late! *Due to the Aspen road
construction project and the
altered route, students will
be dismissed from the end of
the parade route, which is
the corner of Main St. and
Dogwood Ave. They can either walk back to the middle
school or find their family
and friends along the route.
Please make arrangements
with your students ahead of
time for what you would like
them to do after the parade
is through.
Spring concerts will be
kicked off on Thursday, May
3 for the 6th grade band and
chorus at 7:45 in the PAC.
The time has pushed back to
accommodate the senior
athletic banquet, so please
note the time change. The
7th and 8th grade bands will
perform in their spring concert on Friday, May 11th at
7:00 in the PAC.
The middle school and high
school orchestra students
will have a spring concert on
Monday, May 7th at 7:30
p.m. in the PAC. The
7th & 8th grade chorus
students will perform on
Tuesday, May 8th at 7:45
pm at the PAC.
Over the summer, consider enrolling in a music
camp or the Sioux Falls
Parks and Rec Summer
band program. Camps
are held at SDSU from
June 10-15, at USD from
July 8-13, and at Mt.
Rushmore from July 29August 3. Sioux Falls
Summer Band meets at
Edison Middle School two
mornings per week
throughout the summer,
and is only $30 for the
entire summer! These
are all great ways to keep
yourself playing and increase your musicianship
throughout the summer.
Scholarships of $100 are
awarded to any student
attending a music camp
from the BV Band Parents! More information is
available from either Mrs.
Baker or Mr. Miller.

To all 6th grade
students, parents,
and the community of Brandon
Valley: thank you
for all the support
for the 2012 Wax
Museum. It was
great to see such a
huge turnout. The
6th graders
worked very hard
on their projects.
Their hard work
paid off with two
great nights. The
money collected
that night is given
to the Make-AWish foundation.
Thanks again,
Mr. Klumper and
Mr. Nelson!
