Summer Day Camp – Activities Outline
Garden Collage
*New Activity! *
- Encourage individuals to create ‘gardens’ that they can keep indoors. A garden collage
involves making cut-outs of plants, flowers, bushes and other foliage glued onto a background.
A three-dimensional collage is an option for the afternoon group.
Helping out the Birds
*New Activity! *
- Teaching individuals how to help birds find materials for the building of nests, including
ribbons, string, scraps of fabric etc. This will involve discussing why birds would choose various
objects.
Dinosaur Puppets
* New Activity! *
- Individuals will be provided pictures and dinosaur outlines so kids can trace them to make
puppets. Cardboard will be used for sturdy design. Glue and painting will be involved.
DIY Dinosaur Eggs * New Activity! *
- Make your own dinosaur eggs with just a few ingredients! The dinos can then be ‘hatched’ at
the child’s convenience.
Magic Sand * New Activity! *
- How can something be submerged in water and still be dry? Individual will learn and create
‘magic sand’, a hydrophobic material while learning about various hydrophilic and hydrophobic
substances!
Dinosaur Toothpaste
* New Activity! *
- This exciting experiment works great for reactions. Students create a foam which is safe to
touch (composed simply of water, Oxygen gas, and soap). Note, this toothpaste is for dinosaurs
and should not be used as toothpaste for humans (young or old).
Volcanoes
* Favourite *
- Volcanoes! We will make individual take-home volcanoes that you can erupt again and again,
so much fun!
Shark Week
Shark Hats
* New Activity *
- Shark Hats are constructed, painted, and assembled out of simple materials which your child
can wear as a shark-fin hat to their heart’s content!
Fish, Fish Shark
* New Activity! *
- Modified from the classic game of Duck Duck Goose to be Fish Fish Shark.
Examining Sand
* New Activity! *
- Utilizing magnifying glasses, vinegar and sand, children can discover that sand is made of
different types of materials, and vinegar causes parts of the sand to bubble, indicating it was
once alive!
Corn and Apple Week
Crafts
* New Activity! *
- Several corn & apple-on-a-stick paper crafts can help your child show their enthusiasm during
the Corn & Apple Festival; a variety of items and painting activities for your child to enjoy. Note:
MESSY!
Cool Apple Game
* New Activity! *
- Derived from the game ‘hot potato’. When the music stops, whoever is holding the apple is
out but gets to pick an apple from the basket to eat while the other children finish the game.
Everyone wins an apple and has fun in the process.
Apple Relay
* New Activity! *
- Using apples and baskets, children are to transfer apples from one basket to another
encouraging teamwork and careful play.
Pass the Corn
* New Activity! *
- a dried cob of corn is passed from child to child. The rules: you can’t use your hands!
Popcorn
* New Activity! *
- This game involves calling out a number and an object, having the number be how many
students must quickly group together and the object is to be formed using their bodies. For
example “2, rocking chair!” children will form into groups of two, suddenly seeing pairs of
hands forming themselves into rocking chairs.
Brown Apple
* New Activity! *
- Can you prevent a cut apple from turning brown? Children get answers to this question
through a simple and fun experiment.
