Commercialization involves a sale. The buyer pays the inventor for some or all of rights in the technology. Money changes hands. As the inventor, unless you sign away your ownership rights, you own what springs forth out of your head. What Every Researcher Needs to Know About Commercialization Phyl Speser, J.D. Ph.D. Foresight Science & Technology Incorporated November 9, 2008 SMALL BUSINESS INNOVATION RESEARCH- SBIR Who is an Inventor? Whenever you manipulate the physical world in new ways and get new outcomes, you have made an invention. Inventors are the people who conceive useful ideas and describe them in such a way that they can be made. Co-inventors arise when bouncing around ideas and brainstorming leads one to suddenly conceive the invention. Brainstorming involves building upon each other’s ideas of how to do something useful with the background information. The process of invention began when the discussion shifted from what was known to how to do something new. SUMMARY SBIR and STTR Projects are GREAT WAYS TO FINANCE R&D on INVENTIONS Being an Entrepreneur is challenging but rewarding AMP APPRECIATES THE SUPPORT OF THE USDA TO BRING HIGH EFFICIENCY BIOREFINING PROCESSES TO COMMERCIALIZATION
