The STATE GAMES of AMERICA 2015 – FIGURE SKATING COMPETITION (USFS) will be conducted in accordance with the rules
and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating, as set forth in the current rulebook, as well as any pertinent updates which have been
posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website.
This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules, and is a
currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance
with the current rulebook.
NON-NEBRASKA RESIDENTS - All gold, silver and bronze medalists from National Congress of State Games Member State
programs (Winter and Summer) in 2013, 2014 and prior to May 15 of 2015 are eligible to compete in SGA 2015. All medalists
from the SGA 2013 in Hershey/Harrisburg, PA are also eligible.
NEBRASKA RESIDENTS - All Nebraska residents are eligible to participate. Should space become limited, priority will be given to
Nebraska residents who’ve medaled in 2013 and/or 2014. Additional criteria, in rank order include: participation in 2014 CSG
and participation in 2013 CSG.
Skaters must also be in good standing with U.S. Figure Skating. Age and test status as of June 1, 2015 determines skater’s level.
Test Level: Competition level is the highest test passed as of the entry deadline in the discipline the skater is entering.
Entrants may skate one level above that for which they qualify, but they may not skate down in any event. Theater on Ice teams
and Synchronized Skating teams may not skate up a level, but must enter the division that reflects their member’s test level as
of the cutoff date for entries. Skaters who placed in the top four in a final round of their last qualifying competition in their
divisions must move up one level, except for novice and higher.
Age Restrictions/Requirements: Skaters entering Juvenile Free Skate events (Well Balanced Program) must be under
14 years of age at the close of entries. Skaters entering open juvenile free skate events (Well Balanced Program) must be at
least 14 years of age at the close of entries. Skaters entering Beginner Pre-Juvenile events will be divided as closely as possible
by age should the number of entries warrant more than one group.
FACILITIES: The competition will mainly be held at Ralston Arena, 7300 Q St, Ralston, NE 68127: (402) 934-9966, and Moylan
Iceplex, 12550 W Maple Rd, Omaha, NE 68164: (402) 502-6920. Ralston Arena will be the Omaha Headquarters for SGA 2015.

For Basic Skills ONLY Coaches - Any person, 18 and older, instructing in a U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program must have
successfully passed the annual background screen and be registered.
If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be
allowed a credential – no exceptions. We strongly urge all coaches to have their cards with them. Non-credentialed coaches will
not be permitted in the designated coaching area at rink side during events including practice sessions. Coaching at U.S. Figure

accordance with Rule 1600 of the official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook.
LODGING: Complete lodging info found at SGA2015.com/Lodging
Notice for Teams: Creating a block of rooms for your team is the wise thing to do, and easy too! This will block rooms for your
entire team, without requiring you, as the coach, to secure all the rooms on your personal credit card or signing a contract.
Your team will be provided with your own URL to access the rooms in your block, preventing others from accessing your set
aside rooms. Each participant can then go in and reserve the room, using their own credit card and make any special requests
they need. Contact Derek Feyerherm at the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau at (402) 434-5344 or
[email protected] to arrange your team block.
MUSIC: The official competition music must be turned in at the registration table at the time of check-in. A duplicate CD should
be readily available. Music may be picked up at the registration table following each event. Every reasonable care will be taken,
but the State Games of America cannot be responsible for CDs left at the end of the competition. Please have separate CDs for
practice and competition.

their event. A tentative schedule of events will be posted prior to the competition.
PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY: Photography and Videography will be made available in both skating facilities.
PRACTICE ICE: Practice ice will be available depending on the final competition schedule. More information on practice times
will be posted at SGA2015.com/figure-skating at the conclusion of registration.

of nature.
The only exceptions to the no-refund policy are:

SHOWCASE: INTERPRETATIVE EVENTS
Format:
Interpretive is a performance choreographed by the competitor, unaccompanied and unassisted, to music supplied by the
competition committee / LOC. Programs should incorporate various elements of expressive movement and skating moves, to
enhance the skater’s interpretation of the music, rather than technical elements.
- The music will be played during a 30-minute off-ice session and twice during an on-ice warm-up prior to the performance.
- The room will be attended only by the adult monitor assigned to play the music and the competing skaters in that group.
- Skaters after the warm up will go back to a room, with no music being played.
- Skaters will be brought to the ice when the previous skater finishes.
- All competitors in an event will interpret the same music.
- Props are permitted but must be brought into the room prior to listening to the music, and be taken to the ice only when the
skater is called to perform. Props may not be pre-positioned on the performance surface.

Theatre On Ice teams may have no fewer than eight members, all of whom must skate at some point during the number. A
team may have an unlimited number of alternates but no more than 24 may skate in a competition. Open-level teams are
limited to a maximum of 20 skaters on a team.
Curtain: There will not be any curtain used for the Theatre On Ice events.
Theatre On Ice teams can qualify for State Games of America by any of the following methods:
1. Qualifying at their local state games.
2. Placing top 3 places at Theatre On Ice Nationals in the preceding two years (2014 or 2013)
3. Placing top 3 places at the preceding two National Showcase competitions (2014 or 2013)
4. Placing top 3 places in the preceding State Games of America
Note: A team may not skate in more than one division. Teams may not skate up a level but must enter the division that reflects
their member’s test level as of the cutoff date for entries.
Current guidelines and procedures for Theatre On Ice Choreographic Exercise (CE) and Free Skate can be found at
www.usfigureskating.org, under “Programs” on the Theatre On Ice page.
THEATRE ON ICE CHOREOGRAPHIC EXERCISE (CE):

This event is a standard U.S. Figure Skating non-qualifying competition. LG/10-1/14
32
Theme: Dance from 1901-2000: 20th Century dance forms such as jazz and hip-hop that use percussive movements and sharp
body isolations usually performed to percussive/rhythmic music. The theme should consistently show this style throughout the
piece. Jazz is a broad term that incorporates all styles including "street dance" hip-hop, crumping, pop and lock etc
Choreographic Process: Canon/Cannon: Repetition of a movement sequence by two or more skaters in which each skater
enters into the movement sequence at a different time, like “singing around.”
Body Movement/Gesture: Percussive, sharp, fast/explosive movements
