LG/10-1/14 ELIGIBILITY/TEST LEVEL Dates: July 28 - August 2, 2015 Competition Eligibility: This competition is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating. The STATE GAMES of AMERICA 2015 – FIGURE SKATING COMPETITION (USFS) will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating, as set forth in the current rulebook, as well as any pertinent updates which have been posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website. This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules, and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current rulebook. NON-NEBRASKA RESIDENTS - All gold, silver and bronze medalists from National Congress of State Games Member State programs (Winter and Summer) in 2013, 2014 and prior to May 15 of 2015 are eligible to compete in SGA 2015. All medalists from the SGA 2013 in Hershey/Harrisburg, PA are also eligible. NEBRASKA RESIDENTS - All Nebraska residents are eligible to participate. Should space become limited, priority will be given to Nebraska residents who’ve medaled in 2013 and/or 2014. Additional criteria, in rank order include: participation in 2014 CSG and participation in 2013 CSG. Skaters must also be in good standing with U.S. Figure Skating. Age and test status as of June 1, 2015 determines skater’s level. Test Level: Competition level is the highest test passed as of the entry deadline in the discipline the skater is entering. Entrants may skate one level above that for which they qualify, but they may not skate down in any event. Theater on Ice teams and Synchronized Skating teams may not skate up a level, but must enter the division that reflects their member’s test level as of the cutoff date for entries. Skaters who placed in the top four in a final round of their last qualifying competition in their divisions must move up one level, except for novice and higher. Age Restrictions/Requirements: Skaters entering Juvenile Free Skate events (Well Balanced Program) must be under 14 years of age at the close of entries. Skaters entering open juvenile free skate events (Well Balanced Program) must be at least 14 years of age at the close of entries. Skaters entering Beginner Pre-Juvenile events will be divided as closely as possible by age should the number of entries warrant more than one group. FACILITIES: The competition will mainly be held at Ralston Arena, 7300 Q St, Ralston, NE 68127: (402) 934-9966, and Moylan Iceplex, 12550 W Maple Rd, Omaha, NE 68164: (402) 502-6920. Ralston Arena will be the Omaha Headquarters for SGA 2015. There will be vendors and snack bars available as well as local food and entertainment. The venue houses (2) NHL size surfaces with the arena seating 3,500. Moylan Iceplex has two surfaces; 1 Olympic and 1 NHL. There is a snack bar in the facility along with several restaurants and shopping nearby. ADMISSION: Admission will be charged daily at both Figure Skating venues. Adults: $5 Students (6-18 Years): $2 Children (5 & Younger): FREE Admission with Super Pass: FREE All registered athletes receive a complimentary Super Pass in the athlete packet. Additional Super Passes for spectators and family members can be purchased for $20 at SGA2015.com/Admissions. The Super Pass gains free admission to all SGA 2015 events and venues, including the Opening Ceremonies, Athlete Villages and competition sites. AWARDS: Custom State Games of America gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event. This event is a standard U.S. Figure Skating non-qualifying competition. LG/10-1/14 1 CHECK-IN: Event check-in will be open in Omaha one to two hours before the first event and run through the last event of the day. The check-in table will be located in the Ralston Arena, at the main reception area. Please check-in promptly upon arrival in Omaha. COACHES: Registered Figure Skating coaches will receive a special Coach Pass, which will give them access to the floor at Ralston Arena and/or Moylan Iceplex during competition. Only registered coaches with a Coach Pass will be allowed on the floor. Coaches can pre-register at SGA2015.com/Figure-Skating and pick up their pass at the check-in table at Ralston Arena. All coaches who pre-register will also receive the SGA athlete packet, which includes the athlete shirt, Super Pass (for free admission to the Opening Ceremonies, Athlete Villages and all competition sites), and other sponsor gifts. Coaches who don’t pre-register can purchase a pass on-site at Ralston Arena, but will receive the full athlete packet only as supplies last. ENTRIES: Entries can be made online at SGA2015.com/figure-skating. The entry fee varies depending on the number of events entered. Use the following to determine the cost of competition: one event is $85, two events are $135, three events are $185, and four events are $235. Maximum 4 individual events total. Theatre on Ice and Synchronized Skating first event: $55 per team plus $10 per team member; second event for the same team: $30 plus $10 per team member. Theatre on Ice and Synchronized Skating events will not count towards the maximum of 4 individual events. INFORMATION REGARDING COACHES: U.S. Figure Skating Rule MR 5.11 Coach Registration For Basic Skills ONLY Coaches - Any person, 18 and older, instructing in a U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program must have successfully passed the annual background screen and be registered. If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential – no exceptions. We strongly urge all coaches to have their cards with them. Non-credentialed coaches will not be permitted in the designated coaching area at rink side during events including practice sessions. Coaching at U.S. Figure Skating events without compliance is an ethics violation which is reported to U.S. Figure Skating and PSA. LODGING: Complete lodging info found at SGA2015.com/Lodging Notice for Teams: Creating a block of rooms for your team is the wise thing to do, and easy too! This will block rooms for your entire team, without requiring you, as the coach, to secure all the rooms on your personal credit card or signing a contract. Your team will be provided with your own URL to access the rooms in your block, preventing others from accessing your set aside rooms. Each participant can then go in and reserve the room, using their own credit card and make any special requests they need. It is the responsibility of each competitor, parent and coach to check the bulletin board frequently for any schedule changes and/or additional information. Skaters are requested to arrive 45 minutes prior to the scheduled time of their event. A tentative schedule of events will be posted prior to the competition. PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY: Photography and Videography will be made available in both skating facilities. PRACTICE ICE: Practice ice will be available depending on the final competition schedule. More information on practice times will be posted at SGA2015.com/figure-skating at the conclusion of registration. REFUND POLICY: There will be NO refunds of entry fees or purchase of special events tickets because of weather or other acts of nature. The only exceptions to the no-refund policy are: - Entries received after the entry deadline. - Entries received after the maximum number of teams are bracketed. - Entries of non-qualified entrants. - Entries of those denied participation due to errors made by the State Games of America. - Special circumstances determined on an individual basis by the Board of Directors and requiring board action. SHOWCASE: PRODUCTION ENSEMBLE EVENTS Formats: - Mini production ensemble events are theatrical performances by three to seven competitors. Props and scenery are permitted. These two events are judged separately. Theatre On Ice teams may have no fewer than eight members, all of whom must skate at some point during the number. A team may have an unlimited number of alternates but no more than 24 may skate in a competition. Open-level teams are limited to a maximum of 20 skaters on a team. Curtain: There will not be any curtain used for the Theatre On Ice events. Theatre On Ice teams can qualify for State Games of America by any of the following methods: 1. Qualifying at their local state games. 2. Placing top 3 places at Theatre On Ice Nationals in the preceding two years (2014 or 2013) 3. Placing top 3 places at the preceding two National Showcase competitions (2014 or 2013) 4. Placing top 3 places in the preceding State Games of America Note: A team may not skate in more than one division. Teams may not skate up a level but must enter the division that reflects their member’s test level as of the cutoff date for entries. THEATRE ON ICE CHOREOGRAPHIC EXERCISE (CE): All team members must wear all black. The focus must be on the three elements described. Teams create a program based on three elements for the 2015 season: This event is a standard U.S. Figure Skating non-qualifying competition. LG/10-1/14 32 Theme: Dance from 1901-2000: 20th Century dance forms such as jazz and hip-hop that use percussive movements and sharp body isolations usually performed to percussive/rhythmic music. The theme should consistently show this style throughout the piece.
