2017
LONGHORN NEWS
News from the principal
Dear Parents,
The students and teachers enjoyed preparing and displaying all of the wonderful projects for the Learning Fair.
Thank you to all of the families that were able to come and share time with us at school and see what the students have
been learning. There were wonderful science, art, social studies, and math projects displayed in every room!
Students in grades 3 – 6 will take state assessments sometime between March 14th and April 28th.
All students in these grades take a math test and a reading test. Additionally, fifth grade takes a science test. Please
look for information that will be forth coming from classroom teachers about the exact dates your child will be tested.
Every minute counts during the school day and students are expected to arrive on time and miss school only when
they are sick. A poor track record of school attendance is a strong predictor of future failure to graduate high school.
Thank you for helping us maintain a high attendance rate by following the state/district rule that students should be in
school every day unless they are sick.
Welcome Spring!!

Pennies for Pasta
As many of you know, our Lee Leadership Group recently did a
Pennies for Pasta drive for Leukemia. As part of the drive,
leadership students made announcements and made posters to
promote this fund raiser that is for a worthy cause. Overall, the
building raised over $1200! A very impressive amount
considering this was our first time in 5 years to do this fund
raiser. The class that raised the most money will earn a pasta
party from the Olive Garden. The top three classes were Mrs.
Ewing with $232, second place was Mrs. Sloan’s class with
$162.30 and third place was Mrs. Modesitt with 103.23. In
addition, the students raised over $120 with the Pie-in-the-Face
contest. The teacher that will be pied in the face for raising the
most money is Mrs. Harstook.
Thank you to all your help and to the faculty for volunteering to
be pied in the face!
By the way, every penny that the students raised will stay local.
Now it's easier than ever to keep informed about
what's happening. You can add or remove yourself
from any of these lists at any time, and if you've
forgotten your password, we'll instantly e-mail it to
you.
