How to Incorporate the Theme There’s a whole galaxy of possibilities for getting employees involved in your workplace campaign, here are just a few: Astronaut Training Have an employee rally that features a Partner Agency speaker, a United Way speaker and the United Way campaign video. Encourage your fellow “astronauts” to attend this “training” and learn how to love their community to the moon and back. Lunar Luncheon Have a group luncheon where attendees pay $5 dollars to eat lunch (hotdogs, burgers, potato salad, “astronaut” ice cream, Tang, etc.). Proceeds benefit your campaign. Snack Pod For $2, employees can purchase some meteoroid munchies from the snack pod! Outer space options can include Starburst, Star Crunch, Orbit gum, Cosmic Brownies, rock candy, Milky Way bars, Moon Pies, “constellation” cupcakes, Meteoroid munchies, e.g. cheese puffs, or any of your other favorite treats! Hydration Station For $1, employees can purchase some rocket fuel, e.g. the beverage of their choice! Bottled water can become “liquid hydrogen,” and so forth. Welcome Aboard Make sure to give new space cadets the United Way new employee packets welcoming them aboard the “YOUR COMPANY” rocket ship. Moon Pie Match Up A good, old-fashion, pie baking contest! “Space Shuttle” Auction or Raffle Auction or raffle a prime parking space for one lucky winner’s “space shuttle”! Supernova Scavenger Hunt Create a fun scavenger hunt around the office using moon rocks. Create moon rocks by painting a few rocks "silver" or by using a few rolled up balls of tin foil. Whoever finds them wins a prize. Also, the person who collects the most moon rocks wins a prize. Space Station Contest Encourage employees to decorate their office or their department in an out of this world theme. Winner gets a prize. The Sky’s the limit Make rocket ships out of toilet paper rolls or empty soda bottles and have a decorating contest, or take the Mentos and Diet Coke challenge and see whose “rocket” flies farthest. Space Jams Create some excitement by playing space themed music around the office. Song ideas include: David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” (Major Tom), Elton John’s “Rocket Man,” The Police’s “Walking on the Moon,” Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” Steve Miller Band’s “Space Cowboy,” Moby’s “We’re All Made of Stars,” Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole,” Foreigner’s “Star Rider,” Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” and theme songs from E.T., Star Wars, The Jetsons, Start Trek, and Space Jam. Meteor Movie Day In your break room, have an outer space themed movie playing in the background for employees to enjoy while eating their lunch. Think ET, Space Jam, Star Wars, Wall-E, etc. Terrestrial Trivia…it’s not rocket science! Have an office-wide trivia contest. Send out a daily email with several trivia questions, and the first to respond correctly each day wins a prize! Or have a lunchtime trivia competition in the break room. Black Hole BINGO Employees pay $2 per Bingo Card and then play as their numbers are "called out” via email, with the game continuing until someone gets a BINGO! Planetarium Photo Booth Set up a photo booth with glow sticks, rocket ships and other astronaut gear and let employees dress up and take pictures.
