Main Purpose of the Position: The High School assistant cheer coach is responsible for coaching student
athletes in competitive cheerleader techniques to prepare them for events and/or competition.
Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.

List Job Duties:
• Observe cheerleaders during events and practices to determine the needs for individual or team
improvement.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and provide proper supervision during
practices and events.

Follow state, regional, and district regulations governing the program.
Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials
and spectators.
Adhere to VCHS faculty dress code policies at all practices and events.
Act as a team representative and promote cheerleading by communicating with VCHS athletic
director and administration as needed.
Follow established procedure for supplies and uniforms.
Work with Cheer Advisor and Head Coach to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of
award winners at the end of the season.
Work with other cheer coaches.
Participate in special activities to include Parent meetings, banquets, and rallies.
Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Essential Functions:
• Work with cheerleaders during practices and meets.
• Help Head coach with choreography as directed.
• Help Head coach with practices as directed.
• Attend all football games where cheerleaders are performing, all rallies, and all other cheer
events.
• Asses skills and assign team positions.
• Instruct cheerleaders regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Non-Essential Functions:
• Attend clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Cheer Advisor, Principal and/or Athletic
Director or other appropriate administrators.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Some experience as a competitive cheer coach at the high school or college level preferred
• Knowledge of basic first aid.
• Current CPR certification.
• Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
• Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, techniques of the
sport.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school
administrators, parents and students.
• Must possess proper certification from the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and
Administrators (AACCA).
Fiscal Responsibilities: (Budget responsibilities, approval privileges, reporting and auditing)
No fiscal responsibilities.
Extent of Public Contact: (Type and frequency)
Daily contact with teachers, coaches, students, parents, guests and school administrators.
Physical Demands: lifting, walking, equipment operations
Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time and be able to speak in audible tones so that
others may hear and understand clearly. Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds, to bend, to stoop, to sit
on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
Working Conditions and Environment: travel, usual work hours, environmental conditions
Work is performed in an athletic environment. Evening hours are often necessary. This position travels
to games and events.
