A priest stood up to deliver a homily in a church that had
a great Irish tradition. However, the congregation on that
day was mostly Hispanic. He said in a mighty voice, “I
have an announcement to make: The Church is not Irish!”
There was laughter and whispers of approval from the
pews. “And, the Church is not Hispanic.” This was
received a bit more coolly. He went on to say that the
Church, the Body of Christ is not Irish, Hispanic, or
Italian… It belongs to everyone: to the people from every
nation, race, and language. The light announced in the
Acts of the Apostles. “I have made you light so that you
can bring my salvation to the ends of the earth,” cannot be
stopped at a border. It has no passport and knows no
barriers. There is nothing that can turn it off. Light can
conquer darkness, but darkness can never overcome light,
because it is impossible to confine light to just one space,
it reaches all nations and no one can detain it.
This thought is repeated in the second reading, in
Revelation, where there is a great multitude, impossible to
count, of every race, language, and nation. They are all
those who are saved, all who have heard the voice of God
and have accepted his redemption, and who are now part
of God’s flock. They are the people who recognize Christ
as the one who deserves the honor of being served day
and night. It is Christ who will be the shepherd that will
protect them from all evil. No, they are not Irish or
Mexican, but they are Irish and Mexican. And they all
wear the same clothing, which is the salvation that Christ
has attained for them.
From now on, they will be the ones who hear the voice of
the Good Shepherd, knowing that they will never die and
never be taken away. They are all together without any
exclusions. If such a vision were always present in our
minds and in our hearts, would it be possible for us to
exclude someone simply for not being “like us”? Is
racism possible inside the church? The answer seems
obvious. Not everyone will like it. Even within the
church, there are those who would prefer that everyone
was the same or at least that certain groups held their
activities at other times in other places, and not be a
bother… There are those who proclaiming themselves as
“tolerant,” accepts the presence of different people, just as
long as they adapt to the customs of the dominant group.
But this is not the point. What’s more, this position, in
addition to being sinful, is impossible. Because if
everyone is dressed in the same clothing of salvation, if
we are all sheep from the same flock, if we all received
the same light, how would you know who’s who in order
to exclude someone? Who is going to expel a sheep that
has heard the voice of the shepherd? No one can steal it,
Jesus says. And he says it with the authority of being one
with the Father. What does this mean for our life in the
community and in the parish? It is not just about
celebrating multi-ethnic feasts (although they help and are
fun), but about having a roundtable where everyone has a
voice and access to the decision-making process. It will
mean solidarity of a few groups with others since they
have been recognized as brothers and sisters. It will mean
that one or the other will have to sacrifice some of their
positions or comforts to make room for everyone. God
Bless Us All.
Defraying the costofAirConditioning forsummer
During the month of April we will designate two weekends, to take up
collections to help us defray the cost of keeping the church cool and
comfortable

important collection into consideration. Thank you!

Camp Fatima and Camp Bernadette
Last summer, 1,595 children from all faith backgrounds
spent their days swimming, kayaking, and sailing at the
diocese’s two summer camps. At camp Fatima, located
in Gilmanton Iron Works, boys ages 6-15 learn teamwork and sportsmanship while having fun and making
new friends. Camp Bernadette, located in Wolfeboro, is
a sister camp to Fatima for girls age 6-15. The mission
of the camps is to provide a caring community, in the
catholic tradition, where children feel a sense of
belonging, try new activities, and build lifetime
memories.
Since 1954, Camp Fatima has sponsored a co-ed week
during the summer for those with disabilities, ages nine
and up, which serves an additional 340 persons. For
more information about the diocesan camps, visit
campsfatimabernadette.org.
Easter
The Easter Vigil is the "Mother of All Vigils." Easter Sunday, then, is
the greatest of all Sundays, and Easter Time is the most important of
all liturgical times. Easter is the celebration of the Lord's resurrection
from the dead, culminating in his Ascension to the Father and sending
of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. There are 50 days of Easter from
the first Sunday to Pentecost. It is characterized, above all, by the joy
of glorified life and the victory over death, expressed most fully in the
great resounding cry of the Christian: Alleluia!
Service of Healing and Hope

Healing, will conduct a service of healing and hope at Resurrection
