Everyone is invited to join them at 9:00 a.m. in Luther Hall. There are lots of tasks for people who don’t sew. If you’d like to be part of a wonderful fellowship, join us any time. One does not wake up one morning to proclaim, “I’m going to change the world.” Whoever would believe you, or take you seriously? Yet Luther, with his humble beginnings and will to please God, did just that. In 2017, we commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Join us as we walk through the life and times of Martin Luther in hope of discovering our roots, and our own idiosyncrasies. Everyone is invited, including the men! Sign up at the Women’s Counter Hostess: Naomi Circle Women of the ELCA Conference IV Spring Gathering “Wings of Wisdom: Lifted up—Mentored to Soar” Saturday, April 22 Holy Cross Lutheran Church Mountain Home “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 The Spring Gathering is always a special time for the Women of United. This year will be especially interesting because it will be the first year that we will meet as clusters. This year we in Cluster 6, which includes Christ the King, Eben Ezer-Oaks, Good Shepherd/Canopy, Peace, The Neighborhood Church and United will meet with Cluster 7 which includes units in Diamond City, Cherokee Village, Bull Shoals, Mountain Home, Heber Springs and Jonesboro. We have no idea how many units will respond, but we are looking forward to this new adventure. Some of us will go to Mountain Home on Friday night while others may come on Saturday. A sign up sheet is on the Women’s Counter. For more information, call Dorothy Klitzke or Jane Nelson. Registration material will be available soon at the Women’s Counter. Everyone is invited! It is possible that United might be the only Lutheran Church in America where the men do more cooking in the kitchen than the women do. AND WE WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY! That’s why we’re continuing in our tradition of having a “Bake-less” bake sale. Other churches have bake sales and rummage sales and craft sales. Women spend time and money cooking and crafting, and then they spend more money buying the things that other women have cooked and crafted in order to raise money to support programs. Well, at United we bypass all that stuff in the middle. Instead of all that fuss and bother, we just have you drop your money directly (and prayerfully and generously) into the “Cake” in the narthex. No fuss, no bother, no calories and no guilt!! It’s just one of the amazing things the Women of United do! Every year through our bake-less bake sale and our offerings, we raise enough money to support our local missions. We are so grateful to all of you who give so generously. Even though our membership gets smaller every year, with your help we are still meeting our commitments. Thank you to all of you for your gifts from the heart. This year we hope to support these worthy programs: Benton County Women’s Shelter 225.00 Church Women United 60.00 W Helping Hands 125.00 B om ak Lutheran World Relief (Piece Makers) 300.00 el en New Beginnings Children’s Home 300.00 es of s Oaks Indian Center 1200.00 B Un ak i Phoebe’s—cards and stamps 75.00 e ted Restoration Village 300.00 Sa le Saving Grace 300.00 Share and Care 125.00 Single Parent Scholarship 600.00 Village House—Bella Vista 350.00 In addition we send half of our offerings to the Synodical Women’s Organization who in turn send half of that on to the Churchwide Organization. Last year we sent more than $2200 to help carry on the work of the Women of the ELCA. (And that doesn’t even count your additional support of the November Thankoffering that goes directly to Churchwide and the Shopping With Single Parents gifts that we provide locally.) It is through your generous support that we truly can make a difference in the lives of people here in Benton County and throughout the world. You can get your envelope from your circle leader, or you can pick it up next to the “Cake” in the narthex. Please make your checks payable to Women of United Bake Sale. Please place your contribution in the Cake in the narthex or leave it in the Church Office. Thank you for your generosity. TENTH TRIENNIAL GATHERING It’s not too late to register for the Tenth Triennial Gathering July 13-16, 2017, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There are already 9 women planning the drive to the convention, and a few more are seriously thinking about it. The Women of United will pay most of your registration, so your cost would be the hotel room and the $40 late registration fee. Contact Louise Wobig or Jane Nelson if you would like to go with us.
