VOCATION VIEW: Those who love me will be true to my word. My Father will love them and we will come to them. How will I
respond to that love? Am I being called to priesthood or religious life? (John 14:23-29)
CAN WE CHANGE PEOPLES’ MINDS?
Some people (including many Catholics) feel like it is futile to continue to have a debate over the issue of abortion because
people feel too strongly about it and have already made up their minds as to what they think. This is wrong.
People throughout history have changed their minds on vital social issues. When the United States was new, there was no
suffrage or equal rights for women and racial minorities. Almost universally in the United States today, the general populace
recognizes that this was wrong and that women and non-whites are entitled to their basic rights as human beings, and the law
recognizes it too.
It took many years and decades of intense struggle involving emotions just as fierce if not more fierce than those surrounding
the Pro-Life Movement in the 21st century.
But victories for freedom were won and people certainly did change their minds. That is how change happens. Education is
vital so that more people understand the struggle to protect innocent life in the womb and then stand ready to defend the
rights of all living people, including the unborn.
Change can happen, and change will happen, providing we do our part to work tirelessly to advocate change for a freer,
better world where the weak and vulnerable are protected and not exploited and/or victimized.

THE LITURGICAL MINISTRY ROLES for May, June and July
are available at the entrances of the church. Please remember to find
a substitute if you are not available to serve your assigned role.
ON FRIDAY, MAY 6th, we will be having a special Year of
Mercy Holy Hour at Sacred Heart Church in Heron Lake.
The Holy Hour will begin with Exposition of the Blessed
Sacrament at 3:00PM. There will be time for quiet prayer, the
Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Vespers and Benediction. The
Sacrament of Confession will also be available during this time.
Please join us for this special Holy Hour to celebrate God's
mercy.
THE ORGAN FUND is now at $13,095.00. Thank you for your
generosity and prayers for this much anticipated delivery.
YOU SHOULD have received your Catholic Ministries Appeal letter
in the mail. Father will address this with our parish in the next couple
of weeks. Please remember to give to this very important Diocesan
Appeal. It helps make possible many programs for our youth,
catechists, clergy and staff. It helps strengthen marriages, families
and community outreach programs. Our CCW in the past has been
very generous to pick up the tab at the end of the year. As much as
we appreciate this, each family is responsible to help pay the Appeal.
CCW monies are for charity and to help pay for items that are needed
in our parish. Let us keep this and the many programs in mind when
making out our check to The Catholic Ministries Appeal for 2016.
THE AIDEN REMME BENEFIT will be held at the Brewster
Legion Hall on Sunday, May 15th, from 11:00AM-2:00PM. A free
will donation for a Pork Sandwich Lunch will be served. Four year
old Aiden was diagnosed with a cancerous Glioma Brain Tumor.
Aiden's parents are Chris and Tracy (Busch) Remme. A Silent
Auction will also be available. The Sacred Heart Church, along with
Catholic United Financial and Nobles County Thrivent are
sponsoring this benefit.
*There are several sheets at the entrance of the church for donations
of food items and hours to work for both Friday, May 13th, and
Sunday, May 15th. All food items are to be brought to the church by
5:00PM on Friday, May 13th. Please bring your bars to the Legion
Hall on Sunday before 11:00AM. Please help to make this benefit a
success, by doing what you can to fill the time slots and food items.
Let’s also keep Aiden and his family in our daily prayer and give
them our support in their time of need.
THE COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN will hold its next
quarterly meeting on Tuesday, May 10th, at 7:00PM in the
church hall. Most meetings are generally kept to 1 hour in length
and consist of an opening prayer, reports, correspondence and
unfinished and new business discussion. All ladies of our parish
are welcome and encouraged to attend. Your input is valuable.
ALL ARE INVITED to the Forester Twins game vs. the New
York Yankees on Sunday, June 19th. Call Jason Freking at 7932869 to reserve your ticket before the May 27 th deadline.

Council meeting after the election.
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR POSITION at Sacred Heart will be
opening up mid-May for any individual interested in helping to
plan, coordinate and direct the music program and work with Fr.
Arens in order to facilitate the worship of God and the active
participation of the church assembly at liturgical celebrations.
This position may be shared with an assistant, should
individual(s) wish to work in coordination with another. Please
contact Fr. Patrick Arens at 507-831-3300, if interested.

A LOVE THAT EMBRACES ALL—regardless of age, faith
tradition, ethnic background or ability to pay… A Love that leaves
the office desk and gets out into the streets in order to serve the
suffering, the poor, and those on the margins…A Love that believes
that with God’s grace, “Nothing is Impossible.” Your support of
Catholic Charities efforts embraces a love that sees the face of Christ
in all those suffering. Next week on May 7th and 8th you can be an
instrument of LOVE by supporting the Catholic Charities Annual
