Guitar Lessons
Mr. Ethan came by the school yesterday to give us an impromptu performance and show
all the students the possibilities that are available to them if they decide to learn the
guitar. It was incredible, seeing the complete concentration and enjoyment that the
children had while he was playing for them. What a gift that was for us all.
He has already begun giving lessons and is attempting to open up his schedule so that
he can even provide lessons during school hours. As a beginner, lessons will be in 30
minute increments. If you are interested in signing your child up for lessons, please feel
free to contact Ethan directly at 850-305-4367 or e-mail him at [email protected].
Computer Coding
For any third grade or older student who is interested in joining our Computer
Programming Club, our first meeting will be held on September 6th at 3:15 in the Upper
Elementary classroom. If you have a laptop, please bring it with you on that day.
Students should create an account on htt://code.org prior to this meeting so that they
will be ready for the in-class exercises. You will be given a schedule of classes at this
meeting.
Soccer Club
The Soccer Clinic/Meeting that was originally schedule for this week has been postponed
due to inclement weather. Anyone interested in joining soccer club this year must attend
this meeting. This is an opportunity for parents and students to ask questions and get a
feel for what Soccer Club is all about. Lower and Upper Elementary students will meet
on Sept. 8th and Primary students will meet on Sept. 9th. We will meet on the soccer field
at 3:15. Be sure to bring water, a snack for before soccer, and wear comfortable/athletic
clothing.
A Forest Tale Movie Night
The Drama Club is pleased to announce that we will be having a movie-night showing of
A Forest Tale. We certainly hope that anyone who is interested in joining Drama Club
this year will attend; however, the invitation is open to everyone. This Movie Night will
be held on Friday, Sept. 16th at 6:30pm. Please try to eat dinner prior to coming as we
will only have snacks and popcorn for sale. As always, all concessions are $1.00 each. We
are hoping to bring back the majority of the stars of this show and we are looking forward
to once again showing off this amazing cast to you.
Multi-cultural Potluck Picnic
Coming up, on Sept. 10th, which is next Saturday, we will be holding our Multi-cultural
Potluck Picnic. This event is for the entire school and all of the family members. We are
hoping that everyone will find a way to join us as it is a great opportunity to meet your
child’s new best friend and his/her family, arrange play-dates, and chat with your child’s
many teachers. We are hoping for a wide variety of dishes, from breads, veggies, and
appetizers, to main dishes, to desserts and drinks. We’re going to have a sign-up sheet
in the office of dishes that families have decided to bring so that you can take that into
consideration when selecting your own dish
Our Daily Routines
In our dynamic classrooms, our students are quickly adjusting to the daily routines. They
are learning to plan their day, sometimes with help from the teacher. As they do so, they
are discovering the rewards of choosing their own work from their individually designed
work plans and are learning to work independently.
Care is taken during our morning meetings to dedicate a few minutes to our peace
education curriculum by initiating relevant discussions about grace and courtesy, sharing
what we are thankful for and discussing ways to keep our environment beautiful and
inviting.
Volunteers
A sincere thank you goes out to our parents who volunteer to read with our students,
help out in the classroom, wash our classroom mats, and work in the garden. You are a
vital component of our students’ many successes.
Reminder
Please sign up for ClassDojo. We have shared curious and delightful pictures of your
students’ activities. Also, if your child has not had an eye exam recently, there is no better
time than now to make sure your child has no obstacles to reach her/his potential.
MSEO Birthdays
We have already celebrated a few birthdays last month and it reminded us of the
importance in mentioning a few details. As you may know, our students are invited to
walk around the sun, share precious memories of their lives, and answer their classmates’
questions. You are also invited to join us on this special day and share your own
memories of your beautiful child as he/she grows up (in pictures) right before our eyes.
You don’t want to miss this opportunity!
Please remember that we sent home a Birthday List to every parent at Back to School
Night. If your child is dealing with specific dietary or allergy restrictions, it is very helpful
if, on the day that a birthday is celebrated in your child’s class, that you send a special
safe treat for your child to enjoy so that everyone can participate in the celebration.
Uncle Maddio’s Field Trip
Please make sure you have turned in your child’s permission slip for this field trip. It is
DUE TODAY! Also, if you are planning to chaperone, please let us know how many
students, in addition to your child, that you would like to take with you. Finally, if you
haven’t yet had a chance to pay for the field trip on Wednesday, Sept. 7 th, you have a
couple of options. You may pay in cash or check at the front office, or you can have us
charge your SmartTuition account. Please just let Ms. Marcia know your preference and
she’ll take care of it.
Lower Elementary
Science
We have enjoyed two nature walks so far. It was so much fun seeing what a chicken
coop looks like and observing the piglets greedily nursing at their mother’s side. For
their first science lesson the students recorded in their Everything Journal sketches of
their observations on the trail.
Our youngest students have begun to learn the concept of classification with their
“Buttons” lesson, explored our Backyard Biome and are working on learning its parts.
The whole class is learning to use the microscope. This month we have looked at cells
from a plant and miscellaneous indoor and outdoor items.
Upper Elementary
Student Corner
Throughout the year, students will be publishing their work in our Student Corner from
all the classes. This week, we have some submissions from some Upper Elementary
students. There is a tercet by Isaac, a Vocabulary Collections Page by Kaleigh, and three
Heart Maps by Gabriella, Kaleigh, and Gabbriella. We hope you enjoy them!
