We are all looking forward to Thanksgiving—a great American holiday. North Shore Day classes. The favorites so far: Pilgrims, Native Americans and Turkeys. On Election Day the children will have the opportunity to experience democracy in action by “voting” in the school election. Who will the winner be? Chocolate, Vanilla or Strawberry Ice Cream? We will be learning all about “Animal Tracks” in Science. On Election Day we will “vote” in the school’s election for our favorite ice cream flavor! When I get all steamed up, hear me shout—just tip me over and pour me out!” Curriculum Corner—Nursery-3 Our Nursery students will begin learning about Election Day and will cast votes in our school-wide election—to select our school’s favorite ice cream flavor. Our Math knowledge begins to Curriculum Corner—Pre-K Our Pre-K students have lots to grow as we learn to do Picture Graphs! We will also be incorporating some math into our nursery rhyme as we sing “One, Two, Buckle My Shoe.” In Math we will learn the concept Triangle shape, the numbers 9, 10, 11 and the letters I,J,K. Opposites will be compared: “Fast and Slow” “Short and Long.” The author this month is Tomie DePaola. We will begin reading his famous “Strega Nona” stories. We will vote in our school-wide election for our favorite ice cream. We hope OUR favorite wins! North Shore Day School Times Curriculum Corner—Kindergarten We will add 16 new words to our knowledge bank. We will work on our Reading Readiness Skills by practicing listening and following directions in the classroom. Our author of the month is Tomie DePaola. We are all excited to read “Strega Nona” as well as several other books by Mr. DePaola. November we will conduct our own Elections and will vote for our school’s favorite ice cream— Chocolate, Vanilla or Strawberry. In Science we will learn the dif- ference between things that are living or non-living. We will commemorate Veterans Day by learning why we honor the men and women who fought for our country’s freedom. Thanksgiving we will discuss the reasons we should be thankful. We will be making our Pilgrim and Native American costumes to wear to our school Thanksgiving Feast. Partners in Parenting—Pre-Schoolers Should Learn That Their Actions Have Consequences actions make you feel and what will happen next. Tell your child how their Fun Recipe—Turkey Pockets Wondering what to do with all that leftover Turkey after Thanksgiving? Make some fun “Turkey Pockets.” Turkey Pockets You will need: Pillsbury Crescent Rolls American Cheese slices Place one crescent roll on a cookie sheet, flat. Put chopped turkey and 1/2 slice of cheese in the center. Cover with another roll and seal sides with fingers or a fork. Bake 350F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
