Unviersity of Virginia Student Council
Overview
The Marketing and Communications Committee is responsible for promoting Student
Council. This includes the creation of posters, displays, handouts,videos, and much
more. Marketing and Communications is a resource for the communications of events,
activities, and initiatives that come from all committees. In addition, we encourage
participation and feedback from the student body through outreach efforts through our
platform Speak Up Uva. Our goal is to effectively incease attendance at General Body
Meetings, facilitate the sharing of ideas to better the univeristy community, and to
communicate resources that Student Council has to offer to the student body.
The Co-Chairs
Anna Cho
Anna is a third year majoring in Foreign Affairs and Media
Studies. She has been a member of the Marketing and
Communications Committee since her first semester of first
year. Outside of Student Council, she is involved with Third
Year Council, University of Virginia Women’s Basketball Team,
and other various organizations.
jacqueline justice
Jacqueline is a fourth year from Chesapeake, VA majoring in
English and Media Studies. Outside of Student Council, Jacqueline is involved in Class of 2016 Trustees, everything related
to Media Studies, from research to Movable Type – the Media
Studies journal – to The Cavalier Daily, and is a Co-chair for
Student Information Session Leaders. She also meets with prospective students for lunch through Common Grounds and is
the Head of Photography for the Virginia Advocate.

General Purpose
The Marketing and Communications Committee is responsible for: Promoting Student
Council, which includes the creation of posters, displays, handouts, press releases,
videos, and more; Supporting Student Council’s standing committees as a resource for
the communication of events, activities and initiatives that come from any of the committees; Encouraging participation and feedback from the student body including outreach
efforts to encourage attendance at Council meetings, the sharing of ideas to better the
university community, and to communicate the resources that Student Council has to
offer.
Past Initiatives
In years past, Marketing and Communications Committee has been responsible for
three things: Creating every single piece of marketing material that relates to Student
Council, hosting Speak Up UVa Day, and Fall and Spring Recruitment campaigns.

Speak up uva
Speak Up UVa is a public forum to provide the chance for you, as students, to address
the issues that you see around Grounds. We encourage participation and feedback
from the student body by getting students to sign-up and voice their concerns or
proposals for new Student Council initiatives. This helps promote M&C’s vision to make
Student Council more accessible and ready and ready to listen.

Fall and Spring Recruitment
Recruitment is an extremely important initiative for Student Council. With the open
application, Student Council no longer rejects applicants. Student Council cannot
function effectively without the help and presence of talented, dedicated individuals.
M&C strives to continue to produce innovative materials to engage with students around
grounds.
Photography campaign
With so many students on ground, this photography campaign will create an audience
to highlight inhabitants of UVa. This is not limited to just students, but should include
faculty and staff. Sutdent Council will serve as the moderator of this campaign.
Ball Pit partnership with student life
“Take a seat. Meet a new friend.” The idea of strangers sitting in a ball pit was started by
SoulPancake. The balls contain questions and serve as moderators for students. M&C
will partner with Student Life. The Ball Pit is where students will be able to get in two at
a time to voice their concerns about UVa, suggest improvements, and learn more about
the person sitting in the ball pit with them.
