Read - Reflection on Hope: HOPE is a Christian VIRTUE that sustains faith and life.
The power of hope is often misunderstood and misrepresented in common phrases such as
“I hope I w in t he lot t ery .” This kind of hope is not Christian hope because it is uncertain – maybe you’ll
win the lottery and maybe you won’t. An expression of Christian hope is more like: “I hope t hat all
w ill t urn out ok, ev en t hough I can’t see a posit ive out come t o t his difficult sit uat ion. ” Hope calls us to
believe that no matter how bad things may appear, God is building some kind of wonderful outcome
from every challenge we face in life.

Have you ever watched a movie, knowing the outcome will be good, but wondering how the character
can possibly survive? The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis is this type of movie. Read the box below to
understand the set-up for the video clips:
Aslan, also known as The Great Lion, is the creator and one true king of the world of Narnia, and
generally a figure of all that is good. All of Narnia have faith in him. Aslan comes to Narnia to aid its
leaders on missions of peace and protects them from various evils. The White Witch is evil and wants
to claim Narnia for herself. One character, Edmund, is tricked by the White Witch, turned against
his family, and is now considered a traitor and therefore belongs to the White Witch. In order to save
Edmund, Aslan agreed to be sacrificed in Edmund’s place.

movie The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.
Read over the Bible verses below about Jesus Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection and write the scene
from the movie that represents each verse.

(Mark 16:4) When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back.

Like Edmund, due to our sins, we are all under a death sentence. Someone must pay the price for our sin. The great
news is that like Aslan in the movie, Jesus went to the cross to pay the penalty -- to die in our place. God did this
because he loves us (read John 3:16!). Jesus went to the cross to take the punishment for the sin of all mankind, so
we may have the HOPE of eternal joy in heaven. Rejoice in the Resurrection!
DESIGN a poster on the back of this page using the Romans 12:12 verse on hope from top of page.
CHALLENGE: Watch the entire movie and look for comparisons to the life of Christ.
