HALTON LODGE PRIMARY SCHOOL PE and Sport Premium Plan for 2016/17 At Halton Lodge Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of all of the pupils at our school. We also believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extracurricular opportunities have positive influences on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of children. Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, running a wider variety of sport clubs, enabling our pupils to enter into more competitive sports competitions, and training our staff to deliver PE sessions of an even higher quality. Primary School’s Sports Funding Click here for the Department of Education link to the Primary School’s Sports Funding page. What is the Sports Premium? The primary PE and Sport premium 2016 to 2017 is paid by the Secretary of State for Education to the local authority; who then distribute the premium to maintained schools (such as ours). The PE and Sport premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and Sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils; to encourage them to develop healthy, active lifestyles. Currently, each school with more than 16 pupils receives £8,000 - plus an extra £5 per pupil. Here at Halton Lodge Primary School that will mean around £9,000 a year. Purpose of the funding The PE and Sport premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, but schools have the freedom to choose how they do this. Possible uses of the funding include: Developing or adding to the PE and sport activities that the school already offers; Making improvements that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years; Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE; Providing existing staff with training or resources to help them to teach PE and sport more effectively; Introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport; Support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life activities; Running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the school games; Run sports activities with other schools.
