Just Spring Things
Springtime
typically
brings beautiful flora and
fauna to every corner of the
world. This is especially true
for Japan, where the beautiful pink blooms are synonymous with the months
of March, April, and May.
Many tourists and citizens
alike enjoy walks through
tree-lined paths, where
both the sights and the
smells are equally incredible. One of the most prominent locations to view these
flowers is Osaka, located
in the lower middle section
of the country. As a country, Japan features a wide
range of amazing things to
do, and a visit to the cherry
blossoms would be the perfect thing to do while visiting. There’s nothing better
than the idea of getting to
experience this uniquely
beautiful spectacle.

September
11th, 2001 the
largest
modern
terrorist attack in
the U.S. occurred
during that clear
September morning in New York
City and changed American culture
for the decades to follow. On May
6th, 2017 (this past weekend) in
commemoration of the horrific attacks of 9/11 and the lives lost, both
young and old, the JP McCaskey
vocal ensemble sang a concert with
a few ideas in mind: forgive but do
not forget, and give peace a chance.
Complete with full orchestra including strings, piano, brass, reeds, and
percussion, lights, and a video slideshow, the concert was about an hour
long in total and was divided into
four songs. Ubi Caritas, a piece about
peace and love with God. Memorial,
which is the major work about 9/11.
In Remembrance, a piece about remembering those whose lives are
lost. And finally Evening Prayer, a
song that is about tending to those
in need. The concert was also a way
of showing gratitude to those in the
armed forces and in emergency response professions.
The day for those performing began right around 1:30 when there
was a small practice for the orchestra and then the choir joined to run
the program. Beginning by running
problem spots in Memorial such as
the baritone solo sections and the
soprano solo, they quickly transitioned to a smaller group where the
other three pieces were run (one
with a french horn solo, and one
with a saxophone solo played by our
own Mr. Mumma). Then there was a
small break and then a potluck style
lunch in which every member of the
choir brought a dish (about 93 in
all) and served over 120 people. This
a lighthearted moment that juxtaposed with the happenings for the
rest of the day which were serious
and emotional moments that were
compounded by the music and visuals. The stories of the children lost in
the crashes brought many to tears
and stopped to make them appreciate what they do have in life.
The thinking behind the theme
and piece selection of the concert was
done by Mr. Sterner who was making a point about the need for peace
in the world: “With all the fighting
going on in the world can’t we take
a moment to appreciate our similarities instead of differences? After 9/11
there was a period of peace and togetherness among Americans due to
our shared loss and suffering.” While
the words were being sung and performed by a bunch of high schoolers who have almost no recollection
of the event and impact afterward,
they performed it with such conviction and intensity that it emotionally
affected the audience. The concert
was a success in getting the message
across and was musically beautiful
and visually stunning.
Beauty &
Blooms
If cherry blossoms are
not your forte, another
beautiful location in the
world during the spring is
the Netherlands. During
the spring months, many
places in the country are
covered in lush fields of
tulips. The flowers themselves come in a multitude
of beautiful colors, ranging from the starkest white
to the brightest scarlet. If
you’re feeling extra excited
about the flowers, you can
always take home a couple
of bulbs for yourself and
start a garden for yourself.
While you’re in the Netherlands, it would be worth it
to tour Amsterdam on bike
and visit some of the many
museums and galleries it
has to offer.

protect amazing places, including
the Grand Canyon, Acadia, Zion,

Act has also been used to protect
places like Bears Ears, covering
1.35 million acres in southeastern Utah. It is home to centuries
of cultural artifacts. This includes
cliff dwellings, pictographs, and
other sites sacred to Native Americans. But since President Trump
took office this National Monument is one that will be reviewed.
The National Parks Service is
not the only institution that President Trump proposed budget cuts
to. Trump has made some deep
cuts to many non-profit organizations that the government controls. His budget proposals also
call for the elimination of the Community Development Block Grant
program. The CDBG, which started under President Gerald Ford, is
meant to fight poverty. Under this
wide umbrella of the CDBG, Meals
on Wheels is funded even though
it is not a government agency. If
Trump got rid of CDBG, Meals on
Wheels would have to rely solely on donations. It is likely they
could not survive like this. Some
of the other programs that Trump
has proposed to slash or defund
completely are The National Endowment for the Arts, The Public
Broadcasting Station, and National Public Radio. As of now, some
of President Trump’s plans have
been completely shot down like
how he was going to cut Planned
Parenthood by $18 billion. Hopefully the budget cut plan cuts for
the national parks and every organization will not succeed.

THE STUDENT NEWSPAPER OF J.P. McCASKEY HIGH SCHOOL Why is College so Expensive?
I’m Broke.
L I A N N I
CARABALLO
Features Staff
My senior year
so far has been
great. I was able
to get a schedule I love. I was
finally
taking
classes that I
never had time for, and I got accepted to my dream school. For
a while there my life seemed perfect. That is, until I got my financial aid package. Well, I wouldn’t
call it a financial aid package, it’s
more like a self-help book titled:
How to be $30,000 dollars in debt
before you turn 19.
I knew college was going to be
expensive and probably put me
in debt. And I knew that it would
be even worse because I’m going
to school out of state, but I never
thought that college also meant
crippling debt for my parents and
for myself.
In all reality the world wouldn’t
implode if a four-year college degree didn’t cost as much as a
small island. Really, this is researched. Google it. You’ll find
about 5 different Buzzfeed (and
Time) articles showing you the
same thing.
Going to college in other countries around the world is much
more affordable. In fact in Norway, it is illegal to charge students (including international
students) tuition. Any program
undergrad, grad, and even PHD
are free.
In England, legally, the most
tuition can cost is £9,000 which
transfers to a little over $14,000
a year.
In Germany, college is publicly funded and their 2.4 million
college students pay exactly $0
dollars in tuition each year. And
that’s just scratching the surface.
So why? Why can’t America
adopt the same concept? It’s
obvious that if other first-world
countries can survive with free or
affordable tuition, we can too.
If we regulated tuition in America, the only possible outcome is a
well educated populace.
Regulating can also keep the
prices of private and public colleges competitive so that students would no longer have to
choose between affordability and
desired majors.
I’ve known too many individuals that are intelligent but can’t
afford their colleges because it’s
too expensive but have superior
programs.
With the rising price of tuition
and the amount of citizens who
are trying to get an education,
scholarships may not always cut
it, especially for private colleges.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a
larger population with college degrees.
Give more kids access to education, and in turn as a country
we make more advancements.
The more advancements we
make, the faster we get on track
with being one of the best countries in the world.
Honestly, as a nation, it’s time
we do something. Because I don’t
want to be thousands of dollars
of debt for the rest of my life. College is way too expensive, and I’m
broke.

Conflict in Venezuela
Assistant Commentary Editor
In the United
States, the average citizen has
access to anything they need.
There are soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and many other
places to help support our community. In modern day Venezuela
they have none of this. Once considered one of the richest bastions
in South America, the country is
now in shambles economically,
and socially. There are many reasons as to why the country is currently in a state of chaos starting
with the lack of social programs,
money, and the economic failures
of their leaders.
Venezuela’s main export over
the years has been oil. Hidden underground Venezuela lies more oil
than in all of Saudi Arabia, one of
the chief oil producers and sellers
of the world. With high oil prices,
the government was able to fund
local programs to feed the poor
and house the homeless, but after
the drop in the price of oil, these
programs dissipated. The Venezuelan bolívar’s value decreased
tremendously and is hyperinflating. 100 bolívars is approximately
only 15 cents in USD. The prob-
lem with the inflation is only expected to continually get worse in
the years to come as CNN Money
states the inflation of the bolívar is
expected to rise up to 500%. Along
with the change in the worth of
the Bolívar, prices of goods all
around the country have skyrocketed. At last year the price of food
has risen over 800%. If a change
doesn’t happen, the price is predicted to rise over 2200% of the
original price by the end of 2016.
In Venezuela, the quality of life
(also know as the overall health,
comfort, and happiness a group
experiences) has drastically decreased within the last year. Prior
to the presidency of current president, Maduro, previous President
Hugo Chavez put in place many
social programs. Some of these
programs include increased accessibility to education and clean
drinking water, and a drastic decrease in the poverty level. While
president, Chavez gave away large
amounts of the country’s money,
which was beneficial for the country short term, but now, the country needs that money more than
ever.
Living conditions in many areas are poor due to lack of money,
food, and work. Supermarkets are
experiencing shortages of dairy
products, flour, hygiene goods,
and other necessary home goods.
Factories have quit making flour
and other goods because the
price to make flour is more than
what flour sells for. This has led
to a widespread food crisis all
over the country. The rise in the
cost of food has causmed many
people to go into survival mode.
Protesters have coined the lack of
food the “Maduro Diet” seeing as
though many are foraging for food
and the cost of meals increase every week leaving many hungry.
All across the country, people
from all demographics and backgrounds have attempted to voice
their concern about the current
crisis, protesting for not only
better social programs, but also
an end to the authoritarian ruling and a reform to the economic
system. Instead of listening to the
Courtesy of CNN.com
concerns of the many protesters,
the government has cracked down
on the protesters arresting thousands of people. The Venezuelan
government met the protesters
with tear gas, water cannons, and
even sent an armored military vehicle into a crowd of people. These
protests have led to the deaths of
37 people and injuring hundreds
since they intensified in April.
In the end, the crisis in Venezuela is extremely dire. Aside from
opening our eyes to their plight
it also should make us question
what we should do to help.
There are a number of different
ways we can contribute including GoFundMe pages, Unicef and
many others.

P r o m
2k17 was a night
to
remember.
There were a
lot of different
aspects
that
made it a huge success. The
students in attendance were
treated like royalty, created many
memories, and represented the
McCaskey name very well.
There were no issues that
night and everybody had an
amazing time. For me, the main
highlight of the night was how
great everyone looked. It was good
to see all of the graduating seniors
getting dressed up and slaying on
a night that was meant for us.
Before going in, photos would be
taken. The Lancaster Newspaper
was also there swarming us with
pictures, making us even more
excited for the event. Having the
newspaper there added a much
bigger thrill. It felt great to see
our pictures later on posted to
Lancaster Online.
The scenery of the prom was
beautiful. There were gold and
white balloons around the area
with many other gold decorations
and features. Round tables were
displaced all over the room with
enough seats for a large number
of people to sit at each table. This
was a good detail to have because
it allowed for more friends to be
able to sit with one another at the
same table.
The dinner that was given was
fancy and for the most part pretty
good. Out of the desserts
that were given, I say the lemon
cake was the best one. The only
thing that was not so good about
the dinner was the drink that we
received. I’m fine with water at any
event, but at prom they gave us a
glass of water and an additional
iced tea. The iced tea had no kind
of flavor and tasted like the water
that we were already drinking from
the other glass. One of the men at
my table was repeatedly putting
in multiple packets of sugar to try
and get some flavor into the drink
but soon got frustrated when it
still tasted the same. A minor
point, but still.
There was a lot of dancing
after the dinner. Everybody was
out there having a good time and
living the night up. The DJ was
great. At the beginning of the prom
the music was not so good but
later on when they finally opened
up the dance floor, the hits were
brought out. They played popular
rap songs that everybody knew,
throwbacks, and of course some
good Spanish hits.
Other than dancing, there
were other things that there was
to do; which was another good
thing about prom. There was a
photo booth located towards the
front of the stage where people
could go with their friends and
capture their memory that night
and also several different screen
background set-ups for people
to take pictures in front of with
good-looking backgrounds as
well as couches and nice chairs
around the area. Basically, if you
weren’t dancing, you were either
siting and relaxing or taking
pictures. The McCaskey staff
and administration put in an
amazing effort to make the night
fun for us, so a big thank you to
them for the night they laid out
for us. The Marriott employees
also deserve praise for their work
and hospitality that they gave
us that night. Prom was a lot of
fun and I know the next year’s
seniors will enjoy it just as much.

Tape 1: Side A
HANNAH
SHORT
Editor-in-Chief
Hello McCaskey, welcome
to your tape.
13 Reasons
Why follows
the story of Hannah Baker, a
girl who commits suicide and
leaves behind a set of tapes
explaining why she killed
herself. The main character
in the show is Clay Jensen,
and you watch his journey
through listening to all the
tapes. It takes him a while to
listen to all the tapes but it
is a profound journey. While
there is a lot of controversy
over the way the story was
portrayed, many teens look
to this show as a binge watch
that was worth every wasted
minute.
13 Reasons Why
started off as a novel written by Jay Asher. Netflix then
decided to make an original
series out of the novel. This
show has only one season,
clearly. But there are rumors
of a season two being made,
although it wouldn’t make
much sense to have a second
season because the plot is
about a girl who is no longer
alive.
This show discusses
a lot of modern, hard-hitting
topics to portray the general
idea that people need to be
aware of what is going on
around them. The producers
had no hesitation when talking about topics like rape and
suicide in the show. The
disclaimer at the beginning
of these episodes might
not have been enough to
get the idea out about how
serious this show is. There
are scenes where you see
female characters getting
raped and sexually harassed by male students.
Moments like those were
enough to make me rethink
why I was watching the
show.
But I made it to the
end of the series; I even
watched the episode where
you see how Hannah kills
herself. I must say it was a
cringe-worthy moment. It
opened my eyes to the reality of the situation. These
types of events happen everyday. It’s shocking to see how
many people dislike this show
because it shows real-life
events.
The producers spoke
with people from suicide
prevention places on how to
told dos and don’ts of creating a show about suicide and
even then the producers ignored all the advice they were
given and showed Hannah
Baker committing suicide and
getting raped on screen. It
was enough to open the eyes
of the viewers. People who
watch this show are aware
of the negative outcomes of
bullying in high school. It’s
important to know that this
show isn’t meant to glorify
suicide and make it look like
the norm, but it’s trying to

If I were to rate this
show, I’d give it a six. As
much as I loved the realness
of it, there were some parts
that made it seem like Hannah Baker was vengeful. At
times, it seemed the tapes she
made were to blame the other
characters for her death; it’s
clear that is not the intentions
of the tapes, but the wording
of some of them sounded like
it was for revenge.

It started
when a mine
collapsed
in the outer
mountains
of the Mars
village of Cheovraco. 400
miners were trapped deep
in a mineral mine and Earth
decided it would be a waste
to send help as President
Kadek Albrektsson said to the
meeting of the Earth council,
“Why send help to the dead?”
The people of Mars began to
riot against Earth and the
United Planetary Coalition,
but in Cheovraco men and
women went to the mine and
began moving rocks with their
hands. Eckart Berg, a young
student, met with his teacher,
Mr. Beck, and talked about
how Earth only cared about
the people living on Earth and
no one else. Intrigued, Beck
would give Eckart a little red
book; this book was called
The Communist Manifesto, by
Karl Marx, and Friedrich Engels Eckart read it in one day
and went to the mine. He gave
his first speech to the people
as they dug out the miners.
This speech would gain the
attention of the Mars Labor
Party and in no time Eckart
would become the speaker for
the party.
After 15 years of marches,
speeches, riots, and eventually an election, Eckart
would be named first Chairman of the new Communist
Party of Mars, and Nikolas
Lewerenz would be named
President and Representative
of the Mars colonial Government under Earth supervision. Lewerenz would begin
to work with Eckart to free
Mars from Colonial rule, and
start a mineral embargo on
Earth. Without the minerals
needed, Earth had to stop
production of many products,
including weapons needed for
quelling the oncoming revolution. Earth would send ships
to blockade the planet and
start sending landing parties
to fight the Mars military on
Mars soil leading to “Bloody

the revolution so far. This led
to the beginning of aid from
Jupiter and Neptune, two
planets that saw the Mars’
cause as hope for the galaxy,

sir,/ Lays blame upon his
promise. Please’t your highness/ To grace us with your
royal company?”
Tim took the book back: “The
table’s full.”
Radzikowski took the book.
Sima was now looking up
at the Captain, Doctor, and
Engineer acting Shakespeare.
Radzikowski read, “Here is a
place reserv’d, sir?”
Tim looked over his shoulder:
“Where?”
Radzikowski pointed to the
stone Tim was just standing
on: “Here my good lord. What
is’t that moves your highness?”
Sima was now smiling
through this whole ordeal.
The Captain was able to lift
the crew’s spirits. The rest of
the night was the crew each
reading parts from Macbeth
as Frank Sinatra sang in the
background. This night was
truly a good night.

A Slice of Happiness at A
Slice of Brooklyn Pizza
LEILANI
HENSON
Commentary Editor
At
times like this
with chaos and
disaster everywhere, it’s very
difficult to find a common
ground. Recently though, I
couldn’t help but notice that
humans are united by one
thing, food. What makes it
especially odd is the natural
tendency for humans to gravitate and bond over comfort
foods, such as pizza. Everyone
loves pizza. Its one of those
things you just can’t argue. I
know people who hate cheese
but love pizza. There’s something about the sauce and the
crunch of the crust that get
to people, even cheese haters.
Upon this realization I went
on a journey in search of the
best pizza place in Lancaster.
After a long search, which
may or may not have been 4
or 5 days tops, I finally found
it, A Slice of Brooklyn Pizza.
A Slice of Brooklyn Pizza is located in historic downtown Lancaster surrounded
by art galleries and the Red
Rose Transit Bus Terminal
at 241 North Queen Street.
The quaint and cozy pizzeria
opens at 11 AM and closes at
9 PM Sunday through Thursday, and 10 PM on Fridays
and Saturdays.They also have
a location in Lancaster on
Oregon Pike.
When analyzing a pizzeria I take two things into
account, affordability and
overall quality. I taste-tested
two types of pizza from A Slice
of Brooklyn Pizza, the chicken
bacon ranch pizza off of the
gourmet pizza menu and the
ham and pineapple pizza from
the basic pizza menu. Quick
disclaimer, I am not condoning heinous crimes such as
placing pineapple and/or
ranch on pizza! I tried these
two types of pizzas because
my mom bought it so she got
to pick. But I digress.
The first slice of pizza I ate
was the chicken bacon ranch
pizza. I was blown away, to
say the least, Although the
sauce was ranch-based it
tasted nothing like ranch!
In fact, it tasted like a well
seasoned creamy white sauce.
When paired with bites of
fresh grilled chicken and pieces of crispy fried bacon, it was
superb. The pizza crust was
also perfect. It was crunchy
yet soft enough for me to fold
the slice in half and eat it like
a respectable pizza connoisseur. The best part was that
it tasted good cold and even
better when I heated it up for
a midday - ok, who am I kidding - midnight snack.
The second pizza I tried
was the pineapple and ham
pizza. These are two toppings
I hate alone, together, and
on pizza. Yet there I was, at
the dinner table with it on
my plate because my mother
didn’t find it fair for me to get
two slices of chicken bacon
ranch pizza. Since I had no
choice I tried it. I didn’t completely hate it but I wasn’t
jumping for joy when I had to
eat a piece of warm pineapple.
Instead I chose to focus on
the good, like the sauce and
its perfect balance between
sweet and savory, the thin
layer of gooey cheese, and
that darn perfect crust. Before I knew it, I was done with
the slice and ready for more.
Luckily for me A Slice of
Brooklyn Pizza is very affordable, with prices ranging from
$7 to $18 depending on the
size and type of pizza ordered.
What’s more is if you don’t
like pizza, they have a wide
range of options, including
pastas, paninis and salads.

NFL Draft
NBA Playoffs

The NFL Draft
is the closest
thing you get to
football in spring the thrill of selecting a player that might be the
Future or just a college star and
not be ready for the NFL (National
Football League). This year’s draft
was a very exciting draft. From
the Bears trading almost all their
picks this year and a handful of
next year’s to move up one spot
to draft quarterback that was
predicted to go late in the second
round. Also players with mysterious past and/or past injuries
that you would think that would
affect their draft stock still get
drafted both high and low.
Lets about the number one
linebacker in the 2017 draft Ruben Foster, who was projected
to go high but fell many spots
eventually getting picked up by
the San Francisco 49ers with
the 31st pick. The rumors are is
that he had problems off the field,
but due to him dropping so low
the next big thing bumped up. A
walk-on from Temple University
Hassan Reddick was taken of the
board by the Arizona Cardinals
with the 13th overall pick.
This year was a very good year
for defensive players with many
good defensive backs and defensive ends entering the draft all
from the first overall pick going
to the Cleveland Browns Myles
Garrett to the 19 other defensive player being taken in the
first round. Many teams stacked
in defensive players such as
the Cleveland Browns picking
up Texas A&M standout Myles
Garret 1st overall and then tak-
ing Michigan’s hybrid safety 25th
Overall but they were not the only
ones. The 49ers pick Stanford’s gigantic Defensive-end 3rd overall
also taking Alabama hard hitting
linebacker Ruben Foster 31st overall.
Transitioning to the jam packed
offensive side the biggest move in
the first round was by the Chicago
Bears trading up one spot with the
49ers giving up their first round
pick, third round and fourth round
this year, but also a third round
pick next year. They went through
all this trouble for the one year
standout from North Carolina Mitch
Trubisky. He was the first quarterback to come off the board, but the
biggest surprise in the quarterback
position was the selection of Patrick Mahomes being the second
quarterback off the board being
selected by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Even though he was predicted to
go in the 2nd round. Moving
on to the Running Game the
hype is real when you look at
the Highlights of the stud running backs going in the first
round out will be amazed. The
LSU stud Lenard Fornett being
the first running back off the
board 4th overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Stanford’s
quick, shifty Christian McCaffrey 8th overall to the Carolina
Panthers. This NFL Draft was
one to remember with all the
incredible talent moving into
the NFL giving us a sneak peak
at the upcoming year. As we
look forward to another great
year of football this is just another step along the way to the
regular season. Manditory mini
camp will begin soon and then
the preseaon. Just all the right
signs that football is on its way!
The NBA playoffs are off to a
fast and furious
start with two
teams going 8-0
so far winning all
the games they’ve played. You can
only guess those two teams; the
Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors. When talking
about the other games is where it
gets interesting. Both of the other
series are tied at two games a piece
and with both games being so close
there is no real favorite to win.
The
Boston
Celtics
have
dropped two disappointing games
to the Washington Wizards, both
of which where they have gone on
serious scoring droughts. Despite
Isaiah Thomas’s ability to finish at
the cup and his 53 point performance in game 2 the Celtics have a
lot of work ahead of them as their
last 2 losses have been the result
of poor shooting and bad shot selection.

BADA-BOOM!
What a fight to
watch, or not… It all happened
Saturday, May 6th in Las Vegas
Nevada. Canelo Alvarez and
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. headlined
the main event for what was
supposed to be one of the best
fights in Mexican boxing history.
These two foes had a lot to prove
in this one.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.,
son of the great Julio Cesar
Chavez Senior had to fight
for not only his legacy but for
the legacy of his father who is
considered an all time great.
However for Canelo Alvarez,
a different story was at hand.
At only 26 Canelo has already
proved himself to be one of the
best Mexican Boxers to ever step
in the ring. With great power and
an excellent technique, Canelo
was obviously the favorite to win
the fight.
Leading up to the fight the Boxers weighed in on Friday night
and Canelo Alvarez weighed in at
a career high 164 pounds while
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. weighed
in at 166 pounds. A lot of people
were on the side of Julio Cesar
Chavez Jr because of his father’s
legacy and impact on the sport as
a whole. Not only that but he was
an admirable person with great
character and dignity each and every time he stepped into the ring.
As mentioned before,
Canelo was heavily favored and by
a wide shot none of the less. With
only one loss for Canelo which by
the way was by decision in a toe to
toe battle you can say this was one
of the most important fights of his
career.
The bell rang and the fight
started, both boxers matching
up with each other pretty evenly.
Sadly once the match started the
match pretty much ended. It was
a sparring session for one of the
fighters, making the other fighter
look like a human punching bag.
Guess who was the punching bag,
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr of course!
Hit after hit, punch after punch,
blow after blow! Canelo brought
The Wizards however, have
had two 20+ point victories
over the Celtics, their shooting
percentage is through the roof
and their confidence is high and
their momentum is on an upward swing.
The Rockets and Spurs series is tied at 2-2 with the Rockets winning the last game, the
Spurs have consistently been
one of the most fundamentally
solid and have performed consistently even with the departure of Tim Duncan. In game 1
the rockets gave it to the spurs
in a 126-99 victory, the Spurs
retaliated by beating the Rockets twice, in game 4 the Rockets took the dub to tie the series
and keep themselves in Finals
contention.
Over 8 games the warriors
have swept 2 teams and secured
their position in the western
conference finals, looking to redeem themselves from last years
tremendous loss to the Cavs,
the Warriors have effortlessly
made their way through the first
and second rounds and are waiting to play their most worthy opponent the Cavs.
The Cavs have also swept 2
teams, secured their position
in the western conference finals
and are ready for a rematch with
their rivals, the Golden state
warriors. LeBron James has performed as stellar as in years past
and is making his case for MVP,
although with the performance
of Russell Westbrook this season the bar is too high even for
James’ 6’8” figure and 48” vert.
Before the post season the Cavs
slipped into a losing streak and
have since recovered, sweeping
the Pacers 4-0 and the Raptors
4-0. This isnt a new thing for
James though, he has been performing at this level since he was
16 years old.
We can only wait to see what
will be the outcome of the playoffs, though we all expect the
Warriors and the Cavs to be the
finalists, regardless of the outcome these finals will be incredibly exciting and worth the watch.

Chavez Jr’s weakness out
rather early and once exposed, there was no stopping
him from attacking it round
after round after round. In
the first three rounds alone
Canelo Alvarez out shot Julio
Cesar Chavez Jr by more than
40 punches.
It was all downhill
from there as there was no
stopping the Mexican phenomenon from winning the
match. What was surprising
however was how he won; by
decision.
Some say it was out
of respect, some say it was
for Chavez’s father, and some
even say it was because they
were both mexican. None of
that changed the result of the
fight…
The winner, Canelo
Alvarez went on the challenge
the middleweight champion
Triple G. Given the results
from this past fight, there is a
whole lot to look forward to.
Basketball vs. Football
MEL HENRY
Sports Staff
There
are
so
many
different
sports around
the world you
couldn’t even
count
them
all. Although, there is one
sport that by far surpasses
all of the others and you
know exactly what I’m talking
about... BASKETBALL! Basketball is the most
interesting
sport
because
of how many players try to
become the best. When you
think of basketball you think
of all the greats. You think
of Michael Jordon, Allen
Iverson, Scottie Pippen but
you may also think of Stephen
Curry, LeBron James. Russell
Westbrook. The best part is to
think of dynamic players like
the ones I just named and
make a team of greats and line
them up against others to see
what team will.
Another
reason
why
basketball is just simply
amazing is because we se
players cross somebody over
and make him or her fall.
Which by a viewer or even a
teammate is a great feeling. For
the player themselves they feel
great joy and then as soon as
they make somebody fall they
go straight for the shot and
once they make it everybody
in the stands go crazy. After
that the person that falls they
have to redeem themselves so
they try to get the ball and put
a move on the person that did
it to them. A few people may try and
argue that football is more
interesting. In some aspects I
will agree that it is but overall
it isn’t. A person can name
more basketball players then
football because basketball
is more memorable. In fact if
you are at home chilling or
in school during gym class,
more people will pick up a
basketball and try to play
a quick game rather then
picking up a football. Lastly
there are less people involved
in basketball so everybody has
a chance to shine compared to
football where there is a total
of 22 people on the filed while
basketball has 10.
Overall basketball is the
best sport that has came to
mankind and should not be
slept on.
FOOTBALL
JALECIA MARCANO
Sports Staff
There are a lot of different
kinds of interesting sports
around
the
world
but
personally football is better
than all of them. I will tell you
why football is way better then
boring basketball. The main
reason is it’s the most watched
sport on TV and when the
Super Bowl comes around it’s
a celebration everywhere. Did I
mention that 11 million people
watch the Super bowl every
year? That’s a lot!
Another reason why football
is best sport that was ever
invented is because when
you go to a football game it’s
an intense game with all the
tackles, calls and the crowd
interacting with the game.
Everyone gets
together and
has a good
time.
Football
has a lot of
good benefits
to it also, you
can meet a lot
of new people at games who
share the same intensity and
passion as you do and if you
play football you can meet new
coaches and get looked at by
colleges.
When you watch football on
TV or even in a NFL game you
think about all the best players
on the teams. Such as David
Johnson, Ben Roethlisberger
and A.J Green. Little kids
around the look up to these
players because they are so
good and they want to be just
like them. When you’re sitting
at a football game the crowd
goes wild to every little thing
they do and that why I think
it’s the best sport because they
are supportive and interested
in the game.
Some people might say
that basketball is the most
interesting sport but we all
know that its not. All they
do in run up and doesn’t the
court doing what? NOTHING. Overall football is the best
sport because of all the energy
the players, the game and the
audience gives off.
Basketball needs to never be
compared to football because
basketball is a waste of time.
